Whoops! Daley Cornered
It's amusing to see the mayor cornered in a lie. Or even a half truth. Usually, when Kass or someone asks him about something he's said that's obviously wrong or untenable or a blatant falsehood, he stammers, flushes, stammers more and changes the subject as quick as he can to avoid more embarrassment.

- Mayor Richard Daley today hedged on his pledge to keep city taxpayers off the hook if Chicago wins the 2016 Olympic Games.
- "We're looking at that — the concern the USOC has, rightfully so," the mayor said. "We will be coming up with a plan very shortly." But Daley repeatedly refused to provide any details, dodging the question of whether he was amending his promise not to use any local public funds. Daley repeatedly has said that the city expects the private sector and the federal government to provide the funding.
- Minutes earlier, USOC Vice President Bob Ctvrtlik said that city financial backing was necessary.
So now, mere days after the election, Daley is in the uncomfortable position of reneging on an entire set of promises NOT to put taxpayers on the hook by the USOC which wants EXACTLY that. We're betting Daley swallows the lie and guarantees the taxpayer support. What's he got to lose? Odds are he'll be out of office and running the show as Chicago's ambassador-at-large for the whole thing anyway.

This weekend I'm writing the Olympic Committee and tell them exactly what it's like in our city and why we should NOT have the Olympics here.
Disappearing pensions, lack of cops on the streets/equipment, piss poor public transportation, lack of jobs, affordable housing, outrageous personal/business taxes, etc.
No thanks to the lack of voters AND some of our city/state "leaders" who live in a damn plastic bubble. If Daley used the same energy for this Olympic venue for the above, imagine the possibilities.
This state has really gone down the toilet.
My wife who works in 21 said that when the olympic committie went to look at Washington Park for some of the venues, Daley took them on a bus right down King Dr. and the ghetto. When they arrived at the park not a single person was willing to get off the bus to look at the site. They were to scared.
THE REASON HE WANTS THE OLYMPICS HERE SO BAD IS THAT HE IS GOING TO COMPETE THERE IS ANOTHER SPORT BEING ADDED "POLITICAL CORRUPTION" AND I HEARD HE HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING THE GOLD

Chicago is not going to get the Olympic bid. The Olympic committee is worried about how millennium park was waaayy over budget and not on time. It would be nice, but it’s not gonna happen. Even if we beat LA, we would have to still compete against other country's anyway.

There's a way to buy a house and here's the secret!
First of all there are a lot of immigrants doing it and Americans who have been here for GENERATIONS just don't get it!!
First save instead of spend. Get a money management course, talk to a qualified accountant, etc.. Next start small, like a studio condominium or one bedroom condo. Start in a less valuable neighborhood, etc.. In other words tough it out for a while. Next, build some equity. Stay in your property (that you own) for two years or more. If you stay two years you will not have to pay capital gains when you sell. When you sell don't blow the money AND DO invest in more real estate (larger home in a better neighborhood)....and while you engage in this process PRAY that Chicago obtains the olympics.
Again save not spend. i.e. don't take your money, go to the bar and bad mouth Daley and Cline. THEN, walk out of the bar with no money and talk about how the city

Oh, sure you can save for 10 yrs or more to get the downstroke. Better yet, you can be an immigrant and go to a bank or mortage co. and everyone that is living with you or anyone of your relatives can apply for that mortage along with you. See, they will take all of the incomes and lump them together so it looks like all one family income.

9:23 does raise a lot of points. The trick to being a millionaire is to save a million dollars, not just to make a million dollars.
I'm gone from your whole scene now, but I used to like working Friday and Saturday nights in my 20s when I was saving for a down payment. It was really, really clear how few other young people were willing to do what I did, but it still didn't hurt to encourage them.
So instead of going and spending $75.00 at a bar on a Friday, I was spending $8.00 for a quick lunch and then working for $150 or $180 or whatever.
Net difference: about $220 (before taxes). Plus, no hangover.
Multiple that out by a few dozen weekends, and it doesn't really take that much to save a 5% or 10% or 20% down payment. And if you have a sympathetic family member who will let you move in for a low, low price (say, for a year), its just that much easier.
