St. Jude Coverage

And once again, the media doesn't disappoint our low expectations.

Channel 7 has a three line story. Three lines. They can run billions of electrons worth for the Abbate crap, but dead cops? Three lines and one picture. Wow.

Channel 2 does a decent story and video.

As of post time, the Sun Times, Tribune and Channel 5 had nothing up. So thanks for nothing Chicago media - perhaps you could run the Abbate video over some St. Jude high lights tonight some time?

On the 10 O'Clock news we got knocked out by the Dalai Lama.

I told my kid, if I don't get to do this myself, if I don't live to see my grandchild(ren), take them to St. Jude's at least once when they are old enough to understand.

I was listening to WBBM news radio 780 as I was driving into the parade. When they came to discussing the traffic, they mentioned that N/B Lake Shore Drive was gridlocked from I-55 to Roosevelt Road for NO APPARENT REASON!!!!!!!!!!
They don't get it.
You would think that our bosses would have made sure the news media was aware.

Bob Gordon, Father of
Michael Gordon, EOW: 8/8/04

I have to say that my oldest son did put a plug in for CPD about the press. Right after the Parade ended, a WBBM Radio reporter walked up to him and asked if he would say a few words. He did. He thanked everyone for coming out and made a statement to the affect that it was terrible that the news media is not out today and that they only seem to come out when there is bad press for police officers. They actually aired his statement, but it went to the dead news pile by noon on Sunday. But, let me say that my entire family on behalf of Michael thanks all of his brothers and sisters in Blue for remembering him. "Be Careful Out There."

Were US and they're THEM. They are the enemy. I'd rather march in our own area like the new location than downtown. Just go to your calls and back each other. Without agressive, brutal Police work, they'll be beaten, robbed, raped & murdered;then they'll be truly sorry for de-balling us.

Speaking of the jagoff media:
They're interviewing people at the gas pumps about the prices last 2 days. It aired yesterday and again this morning on ch7;they talked to some asian yuppy broad w/a nice tush we'll call "Muffin". She made her statements, then they showed a separate shot of her yaking on the cell phone to probably "Megan" while she was pumping gas.
Dont they know those cell signals can ignite gas fumes? Are they all smokin' w/Josea?

If indeed we as Police Officers feel that our fallen brothers and sisters have been ignored, why arent we doing something about it. Let it fuel the energy we need to embarass the mayor and get a great contract for once.

Dont do anything, answer your calls and make paper. Give good police service but zero numbers.

As for all that bitching about parking at St. Jude...remember all the things you have done for the first time and how it sucked. In time it will be better. Remember, St. jude isnt about us...its about the Gold Star Families and their lost loved ones! Quit all the bitching and lets stick together for once. Contract time boys and girls!

I think the location was very pretty with the trees in bloom and being on the lakefront, but I think the march should be in the public view at least. I kind of felt like we were pushed to an out of sight out of mind corner.

couldn't make the march this year, but....as far as media "bias", compare the coverage given to the Abbate video with (any?) given to the march; that alone should speak volumes about the media and their prejudices....

i want to say as a police officer i was truly amazed by the turn out at the st jude parade.we put aside all our petty differences for a moment and came together to honor our fallen brothers and sisters. my friends this is what being a family is about, even though we fight, have disagreements,we came together when needed and gave the message to the media and the general public that we will not be brought down and our family bond with all law enforcement i.e. state, county, suburbs is truly more powerful than the crap the media, the public and the "reverends" spew on us. to my fellow law enforcement officers where ever you are,god bless you, stand tall and strong and always remember the single most important objective of each day is every officer you see at roll call comes back safe and in one piece. on a personal note, we deal with the fact that every day we come to work we may not come home so use that as a reminder to always tell your friends and family you love them. our friends and family our the ones who keep us sane through out the craziness. i would bet anything that the family and friends of the ones we honor at st jude, the one thing they wish is they can tell their fallen loved one i love you one more time. be safe! stand strong! and lets be good to each other and hug your families.

The weekend of the 5th should have been used to highlight some of the sacrifices that those who wear blue everyday and those who cannot anymore have given to the city. Its a shame... I couldn't figure which recieved less coverage, the 3rd Annual Run to Remember or the St. Jude Parade. Nice way to plan a stupid dog walk (bark in the park). Alot of attention given to the hairy four leggers when nothing was mentioned about the run to honor the fallen and their families. It's gotten to where its not about helping some meathead but about backing up those you work with and being safe. Good Luck and God Bless

I have participated in several St. Judes parades in the past. When I learned of this years route I initially thought that law enforcement was once again being shunned to the side for the sake of convenience.

But after witnessing your sea of blue in such a picturesque setting on a beautiful day, I was humbled and envious. I was humbled by the respect and tribute displayed in memory of your fallen officers. I was envious of the great turnout and comraderie I witnessed among your officers. Take pride in this event it was great, the traffic problems were a small price to pay for it.
Just wanted to say thanks for allowing the I.S.P. to come out and play a small role in supporting you all in such an honorable event. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Mr Gordon,
It is because of you, your family and what you have lost that I march with pride and dignity at the St. Jude's parade. I do it for all the Gold Star families as a show of cohesive love, respect, loss, comfort and support.

If it was held in the middle of the night with no media coverage, I'd still be there. Cameras don't illustrate nor do they enhance OUR support or homage to OUR fallen officers. It has nothing to do with anyone but OUR family. Show your support and never forget what some have sacrificed. It's OUR day for them: the families. Do you need to see yourself on TV in order to solidify your support?

Michael is sorely missed.

I walked in honor of my fellow officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice.
I walked in honor of every family member and friend left behind.
I walked for every officer killed on or off duty for they cannot walk again.
I walked because I lost a true friend, an officer, an honorable woman.
I walked for her parents, in hopes that they find peace in losing two of their children.
I walked for her brother, who she has joined in heaven.
I walked for her sister and brother, for they miss her love and amazing sense of humor.
I walked for her neice, for her nephews, who can no longer know their Aunt.
I walked for her partner, who will never stop loving her.
I walked for Sheri Catino, who is recovering from injury and is reminded daily of this terrible tragedy.
I walked for her pup, who continues to be a little jag;)
I walked because life is NOT the same nor will it EVER be.
I walked because this world is a much quieter place without her:(
I walked because I belive there is still some pride and honor among this department.
I will continue to walk.

God Bless the O'Dea family

Question. If the Dali Lama knew that a memorial march was taking place to honor our officers and that Daley was there listening to him instead of honoroing the officers, would he tell Daley he should have been at the memorial march? Seeing what little I have of the Dali Lama, I would say he would be embarassed for Daley and told him he should have gone to memorial.

I made one for the opening ceremony of Gold Star Families Memorial And Park as well. I am not accepting any money. These slide shows are my gift to the Gold Star Families.

I do this on the side from home and wanted to do something special for our fallen brothers and sisters. Im glad its been received well. I can make a copy of each and send to each district secretary for you to copy. These are DVD's so make sure thats what you copy them to. FYI a slower burn of 6x or even 4x yields best results.

All I ask is, if you do make a copy toss $5.00 in the hat and send to the Gold Star Family Foundation as a District!

I am RDO Weds & Thurs. I will make the 25 copies of each and send to each district secretary via police mail on Friday my 1st day back. PLEASE advise the Dist. secretary of same.

Be safe... Giuliani 017

To: "knock off the inspection & make the parade what it should be

5/08/2007 08:40:00 AM"

Relax, don't be so pompous. It's a small enough perk that doesn't cost anything. If we have to stand inspection in our districts and units, that's time spent away from patrol and our jobs to change
and line-up.

There was a time, in the pre-contract days, when we got time-due (no money) for showing up at St. Jude's.

Relax, and enjoy it next year. If you insist I am sure you can stand inspection, a second time in your unit.
