Well, the conservative base has completely deserted the Administration on this immigration amnesty bill. Bush is doing his part to drive them away by saying that opponents of the amnesty must be narrow minded, unpatriotic and probably racist. Donations to the Republican party from small donors (no businesses or soft money) have dropped by over 40%. And if they aren't sending money, they aren't going to be voting for Senators and Representatives that support this bill.
Then we found this brilliant idea at HotAir.com. Next time you get a solicitation in the mail, be it from Republicans or even a democrat, send this:

You want meaningful immigration reform? Put the Campbell Boys (008) in charge. Pretty soon all the illegals will have a meaningful identifcation number---an I.R. #.
As a conservative Republican, who voted for both Bushes twice, I am very dissapointed in George Bush. His stand on immigration is only one of the things that have turned me off. I support our troops 110%, but Bush should have listened to some of his fathers advisors who told him not to conduct the war in the way that we are. If we are still bogged down in Iraq and gas is equally as high in Nov. 2008 as it is now, expect a Democratic victory. And look out they will run all three branches of government.
Finally even his own people have found out what a bumbling idiot this guy is. He has truly made our country a laughing stock and run it into ground. Our economy is up, but is more money in your pocket?

The boarder cannot ever be secured anyway. The only option is to "repatriate" the illegals back to their countries. You can’t say amnesty then problem is fixed because if you want to get to this country you will find a way.

This late in the game and STILL you don't get it do you? Bush II and his handlers give less than a fuck about the so called "conservative base"--the evangelicals and other nativist nut-jobs grabbing headlines. What matters to the Bush administration, in fact EVERY administration be it Democrat or Republican, is what the BUSINESS CLASS thinks--no other.
NAFTA was a complete disaster for the vast majority of people in Mexico, utterly destroying their way of life. The switch to agro-export crops combined with the devastating introduction of US-subsidized agricultural produce rapidly depopulated the countryside.
As peasants and other landless farm workers flooded to the cities, it quickly became apparent that there was little work available upon which a family could survive. Another of NAFTA's "innovations" was the virtual outlawing of unions so little or no worker protections or livable wages were in place in the few jobs that WERE available. The end result? A vast pool of desperate peasants from which employers could utilize to threaten workers should their wage and benefit demands become too strenuous.
It's unrealistic to expect people to lie down and starve to death so it should be unsurprising that those who could seek opportunities north of the Rio Grande would do just that.
So here we are. The business class is happy with Bush's "compromise” because it leaves the easily exploitable immigrants in legal limbo—they are NOT being granted citizenship YET they may remain in this country to work. What does this tell you? If I’m a factory owner, a restaurateur, Wall Mart etc, this whole arrangement leaves me very pleased indeed. On the one hand I have a pool of fairly timid immigrant workers who are insecure about their legal status and unlikely to make workplace and wage demands, while on the other, I have an effective tool with which to intimidate native-born American workers with the credible threat to replace them or relocate entirely into business-friendly, union-free Mexico.
Trust me on this SCC, Wall Mart and the rest of the business elite LOVE Bush’s immigration proposal—and it’s what they think that counts in the White House. Try to remember that.

I hate to break it to you - but I cannot stand our (Illinois) government and our City Government. We have no say in this city/state regardless of who(m) is in power. It is just a disgrace.
However, I feel as if Al Gore was President we would be in a much different predicament. Call him a pussy if you want, but it's much better NOT being at war than being in this current mess.
I can't figure out what to do about this current election. I do not want any more republicans in power, but I certainly do not want to vote for any of the democrats running.

Amnesty was given in 1986 and look at what happened, If this country enforced the laws already on the books these leaches would stay home. HELLO congress go after the employers. I am a Republican and proud. The last Democrat I voted for was George McGovern in 1972. (I was a stupid college kid at the time.) I don't hate those who voted for Carter, Clinton etc. even though I disagree with them. If you hate those of us who voted for Bush, you have some serious issues and I hope you get help.
