What's This?

From the comments section:
  • Comment #1 - i saw a memo in c/o book that the suv's in the districts are being reassigned to the 20 sector sgt's...due to the fact that the department is "currently purchasing tactical equipment" what does this mean??? The memo was from Charles Williams...What tactical equipment??? guns?? or cones for seatbelt missions?? please tell...
  • Comment #2 - A teletype came out today stating that as of the first day of the 7th Period, all of the SUV's delivered to the Districts will be re-assigned as the 20 Sector Sgts car. Per the teletype, this will be to facilitate specialized equiptment which is to be carried by that Sgt-----no mention of precisely what kind of equiptment.....Could this be the weapons car for each district that people on this board have begged for??? I cannot confirm, anyone else?
And the replies are great, too:
  • More babyseats......
  • Ok, shhhh, this is what I heard..
the SUV will be equipped with, state of the art filing cabinets. Research has found that Sgt's are being inundated with special attentions, and a plethora of medical check requests from every unit city wide and in order to keep these records orderly, Sgt's need more filing cabinets. Really
We'll put money on the "equipment" being more crime scene tape, markers, gun recovery kits, seatbelt enforcement signs, baby seats, SPAR forms and CR initiation paper. And if some how, some way, this ends up being gun safes for shotguns, rifles, riot shields and such, we'll take full credit for getting the ball rolling. Just like we got Phil to resign, Matthews to get reassigned, Hitney to infamy, blogspot to get banned and Seiser to run it (sarcasm people - sarcasm - everyone knows Seiser has always run it)

NEW ORLEANS --

New Orleans is America's murder capital, again.

The latest FBI figures say the 162 murders in 2006 made New Orleans far bloodier than any other place in the country.

The FBI put New Orleans' 2006 population at 431,153, not even accounting for the city's losses from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. At that population, the murder rate would be 38 murders per 100,000 residents - eighth out of 254 cities with more than 100,000 residents.

But even the most generous current estimate of about 255,000 residents would mean a rate of 63.5 murders per 100,000 residents.

The city with the next highest per-capita rate, Gary, Indiana, is 48.3 per 100,000 people, according to the statistics. Close behind is Detroit at 47.1.

ha ha ha
Seriously, our SUV was broadsided [flipped and totaled] about a year ago and we haven't received a replacement one, so I guess we don't get any 'special equipment'. Oh well, life on the west side.

You hit it right on the head. They will be utilized for having:

01) all reports and an ample supply of em at that. So, if anybody in the field needs a report, the suv can immediately respond with one.

02)same goes for tickets books and anovs.

03) 2 baby seats on board so sgts don't have to have them in their trunks and don't have to relocate to the station and then back to the scene.

04) other usuless items for safety check sites.

that is all.

I was really pissed off this evening when ABC 7 didn't present Wheel of Fortune at 1830.

Insted they presented a discussion about school violence and I turned it off when I saw Pfather Pfleger on the panel. I am sure that any one of us would rather listen to Pat Sajak than this goof. If anyonew catches the Prize Puzzle numbers please post them here.

Maybe it is the monitoring equipment to record YOUR conversations with your partner in the car! Or maybe it will be used to ferry politicians and others who helped the merit sgt. to events! Or maybe it will be used as a 70's type van to lure woman like that one goofy sgt who was aquitted for going to a womans home and? How about an order to quit giving take home cars to people who don't need them! Like all the exempts! Why do the politicians especially 1 alderman need an unmarked crown vic with full police equipment and radios? Why does the city clerk who refused a police detail have an unmarked executive crown vic with flashing lights siren and POLICE RADIO? Yes people at motor maintenance care about who has police equipped cars and ones that should have it! The city tresurer also has a nice police detail with the same type of car why? What emergency could they have? late for lunch?

Legisltive update:

The two bills in both state houses asking to ammend the residency law have been sent to committees. In the house, the bill made it through rules committee, then to labor, then to executive, and back to rules. In the senate, it hasn't left rules since February. They seem to be stalling. Call your local elected officials to move these bills along. If they make it to vote, we have a chance.

The abduction of Kelsey Smith (F/W/18) from a shopping mall in K.C. suburban Overland Park, Kansas came to a tragic ending when her remains were found in a heavily wooded area near Longview Lake across the state line in Missouri. Her abduction was partially captured on mall surveillance video. The triangulation of "pings" from incoming unanswered calls to Kelsey's cell phone placed her phone in the area of Grandview, MO, near where her body was then found.

Edwin R. Hall (M/W/26) of Olathe, KS is now in custody charged with Kelsey's murder.

Even if the SUV's get gun safes in them I can almost guarantee that they will never be stocked with weapons of any sort. Hell, most Sgt.'s refuse to even sign out a taser let alone a rifle. Secondly, while I am in favor of having some sort of heavy weapondry available to the watch, who would be the one's to go qualify on them? Will it be the watch kiss asses or the little female who is 100 lbs. soaking wet and will have that thing taken away so fast it'll make your head spin. Everyone keeps saying how we need the new weapons order signed because we are outgunned, but what is so great about the new order? The largest caliber we will still be able to carry is the .45 and we can already carry that. I hope you people don't think that a Glock or Springfield XD will make you any better of a shooter than you already are. The only solution to that is to practice, practice, practice. Sorry for the long rant but remember the secret to surviving is to use your head and make sure you and your partner go home at the end of the day not having some shiney new weapon. Stay safe and God Speed to every former, present and future police officer.

We don't have the equipment we need because the EMMD was taken over by fleet management a few years ago and its been down hill ever sense.

Now this is red hot info from a very reliable source in fleet management. Fleet does not want to purchase any squadrolls. Instead of squadrolls fleet intends to have a box fabricated on the rear of a Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The box will be designed to transport four prisoners. These new "URBAN POLICE VEHICLES' (as the project is known in fleet) will replace all our wagons. Fleet has ordered 18 of these Explorer Sport Tracs to be used in an experimental test of the new "URBAN POLICE VEHICLE" Let us not forget the Chevy Impala experiment that failed under the assholes at fleet management. Be careful with this new vehicle because it will have a high center of gravity which will allow it to roll over like a pair of tumbling dice.

Why do these jag offs at fleet keep attempting to fix something that was not broken.

(OT) Hey SCC maybe this deserves its own thread! From the Soutwestside newspaper "The City Newshound", 07JUN07 Pg #7 Heading "Huge crackdown on illegal drag racing in Crawford indusrrial park" The story: A huge crackdown at the Crawford industrial park in the 14th ward has put the brakes on a flurry of illegal drag racing following widespread complaints from neighbors.
The sweep, code-named "Fast and Furious", netted more than 150 cars being towed from the vicinity, several arrests and the issuance of more than $30,000 in tickets and fines.
A virtual array of tow trucks, public and private, were required to work through the night to remove the vehicles.
The unannounced crackdown came in the wake of complaints from local residents and businesses within an area of the Southwest Side bounded by 47th to 41st Streets and pulaski road to Keeler Ave.
Under the command of 008th district commander Leo Schmitz, police made the late-night raid at the request of Ald. Edward M. Burke, who is the sponsor of the landmark law that empowered police officers for the first time to impound the cars of illegal drag racers.
Commander Schmitz indicted that if these individuals return to the area, another unannounced raid will occur.
The illegal sport of street racing has become popular sine the release of the movies "fast and Furious", and the sequel 2Fast 2Furious,which dramatized the the appeal of urban drag racing. Gambling and betting regularly occur at these races which can endanger the lives of drivers, spectators, and members of the general public.

OK SCC now i guess the story is true if you read the story it says we can impound cars for illegal drag racing! Were all these cars towed drag raced? Most likely not! Again the great alderman ed burke who has drivers to drive him around in a Hi-Performance Police Interceptor complete with police radios and falshing lights and loud siren, has struck! Think Ric Flair would of told him "Sorry aldermnan I will look into it as my officers are really busy on the westend looking into more serious crime", and sent a beat car to write some tickets? No of course not you never defy the mighty burke he is kind of like the great oz from the wizard of oz! How much manpower was used? Lets hope the lawsuits flow for illegally towing cars not racing remember guys and girls you cannot make up cahrges you have to see them race not simply parked on the side and take their cars right? great commander what a great job will eddie burke now keep you as commander of 008?

Slightly off topic:

Regarding shotgun training:

I went yesterday morning to shotgun training and I wanted to give kudos to the range staff for the job that they did. It was a Gebtlemen's Course (meaning everyone was treated and acted like adults), very well organized and professionally run. Safety was the primary focus from start to finish and the material taught, though only really a familiarization (you can only go so far with one day of training), was very comprehensive. After going through the training, for what material was covered, I'd like to see expansion courses set up, but knowing the dept, since they don't already do it, we won't get it. I do recommend everyone take the course, maybe then if everyone did, we might stand a chance of getting our shotguns back and some additional training to go with them. Again, to the range staff, a job well done, thank you, I learned a lot.

Former Chicago Police recruit convicted of theft

June 7, 2007 - A former Chicago Police recruit is serving time in Milwaukee for stealing from automatic teller machines.

A Milwaukee judge sentenced Adam Bradley to 15 months in prison and more than two years probation Wednesday.
Bradley worked for a company called Bantek that services ATMs and quit last November to join the Chicago Police force.

Prosecutors said he stole $70,000 from four ATMs on the same night the company gave him a going-away party.

The ATMs were in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Bradley was also fired from the Chicago Police Academy.

Supposedly he starting banging a female PO that works in his office, his wife found out and served him with papers. I believe its against department policy to have sex with a subordinate, and have command over that person. I believe they dumped a female capt out of 16 because her husband a po bid there and she would supervise him for a couple hours a day. Maybe that commander knows he might get dumped. Not necessarily the fat ones since you can always go on a diet (after all, you obese officers do embarass those of us that stay in shape and look professional). I mean the taller ones. Theres two officers on my car that are both taller than 6'5" and we're stuck with the mini chevy that the department has gone too. GLOCK pistols and Springfield XD Pistols have lighter trigger pulls than most CPD authorized semi-auto pistols. The Sig pistols with the DAK triggers are exceptions.

Most people find a pistol with a lighter trigger pull easier to learn to shoot well and shoot fast.

Shooting well (hitting your intended target)and shooting fast can save your life.

Practice is a good thing.

There was a time in the mid-1980’s when the electricians in Motor Maintenance had to write the date installed on electrical parts such as alternators and starter motors. They were coming form a minority politically connected sweatshop in the city. These parts were so lousy that it was not uncommon to get two or three installed until you one that worked for more than a few days. Some alternators exploded and sprayed shrapnel around the engine compartment.

This is the same as the hired truck scandle? All from good units now allowed to do nothing for ninety days thanks to fat phil and maria no nothing.

The SUVs are going to be equiped like little fire trucks. Goin to have a packet of consent to search papers as well as bolt cutters, Chicago pry bar, sledge hammers, two ballistic shields, one big orange seat belt mission sign, traffic pylons, three bicycle racks on roof, rear step like a fire truck to carry five tru guys or three real cops, mountain repelling equipment to take over the House of Hope, big red life preserver for the lake front or river, one little giant ladder for the p/o who has to hold the satelelight dish and camera so OEMC can see, red and green smoke launchers so that the helicopter and swat kind find us and mark an air strike. Sorry I forgot the baby seats and the micro wave. Other repots coming in state the vehicle will be used exclusively to deliver free cheese and butter to our citizens. Reports also indicate in the event of a heat wave, the sgts will distribute water bottles, fans and smoke detectors in Area 1,2, and four.

A little know fact about fleet management. A few years back after fleet took over. Glenn Tatara the jag off that ran the police operation shook down the Ford dealer who supplied the crown vic's for an extravagant christmas luncheon catered by Phil Stephani at the 52nd. st. facility to the tune of $4,000.00 dollars.

Shortly after taking over and having all police personnel removed from the garages. Glenn Tatara had a spectra police radio (this is the same type radio the Supt has) installed in his city car along with full police emergency equipment. He also was able to obtain a police dept. ID card.

Tatara also gave his boss Mike Picardi a black crown vic. front line pool car with a spectra radio and full police emergency equipment. Picardi also carried a police dept. ID card and had full police emergency equipment and a spectra radio installed in his city lease vehicle. The front line pool car that Tatara gave him was so that Mike Picardi could fuel at city gas pumps. (operators of leased city vehicles have to provide their own fuel)

When these two jag offs got moved from police fleet over to streets and sanitation they both took there police equipped vehicles and police dept. ID cards with them.

A beef was made to IG David Hoffmans office about this and absolutely nothing happened.

You want to know where your pool cars are? A lot of them are sitting in the various Area MMD's, while people decide what they are going to do to repair these cars that officers continue to wreck at a record pace! Too many avoidable crashes, too little concern by the officers as to fluid levels, tire pressure, etc. eventually takes its toll. I have seen more blatant lies and BS on these vehicle crash reports this year...unbelievable, what Sgts. and higher ups sign off as official explanations of how these cars get trashed.
"Parking lot damage" that simply didn't occur the way it is claimed. Inexperienced officers who lose control of these cars while responding to calls. If you can't control the car, SLOW DOWN! If you slam into the car in front of you, it's YOUR FAULT! And of course, let's not forget the regular occurrence of squad cars crashing into each other. Tires that are way too low in air pressure, that no one seems to notice, despite the fact that the car is operated 24 hrs.a day, by at least 5 different people. If the operators of these vehicles don't care, can anyone really expect the guys who fix them to be any more concerned?

All this fleet management talk! Do you think maybe it city hall that refuses to buy much needed new cars? At one time we got400-600 new vehicles every year now? a lot less if any! The bosses have to many new shiny take home cars, the specialized units have many brand new leased take home cars why? Clout and mis management! The new cars need to go to the districts where they are used 24/7 not to the prima donas who use them as their personal vehicles! If tatara and picardi have police bading and police cars they should be immediately be taken away and given to the working officers! Why do the politicians get brand new police vehicles for their own use such as miguel delvalle the city clerk? he has a new crown vic with full police equipment including cpd radios and siren! Take it away give the tataras picardis and the clerk along with burke, treasurer, etc the new prius as i am sure they want to reflect daleys "green" thinking right! take away the mayors huge fleet of cars and move into chevy cobalts to save fuel! Learders lead followers follow!

You sir are in no position to judge how an accident happened or how a car was damaged. As for tire presure and fluids, those should be checked by fleets lazy pump attendants every time the car is fueled. As far as fleet caring about fixing the cars, IT'S YOUR FUCKIN JOB, just do it and stop trying to pass the blame for your poor performance on to the police officers. The dept. of fleet management took a competent well run EMMD away from the police dept. and in a few short years turned it into mass confusion and incompetence. I hope that the city sells the police maintenance to a vendor and fires all the assholes at police fleet. Best solution would be to turn the operation of the police garages back over to the police dept.

back when the Department had Motor Maintenance, they would strip the junk cars of usable parts, saving about $750,000 a year in pars costs, and then sell the remaining hulk to a scrap dealer for $600; When Picardi and Tatara got in, they just started junking entire cars, with THOUSANDS of dollars in usable parts, for $600 bucks each. Everything was on the "up an up". That's why they started towing the junks away from 52nd in the middle of the night, and why the salavage dealer had to "rent" part of a Sam's Club lot in Skokie to store them. Hello? Pat Fitzgerald? Are you out there?

There have been a few of us trying to make other coppers relaize that we are all we got !

We bash our brothers and sisters on a daily basis. We write things on this blog that could hurt even the one that wrote it because secrets told mean that all were aware. Police work is not black and white but rather "GREY". We do what we have to do to get the job done and go home after the tour is over. Dear midget,

Since you are either less than 6 feet tall, or have never driven an Impala with a PDT, or tried to get into one while wearing a bullet proof vest, gun belt w/radio, etc., or watched someone who is bigger and badder than you try to get into an Impala, or all of the above, I make the following recommendation: Take off your "Casual Friday" clothes, put your uniform on (if it still fits), go to a District where the Real Police work, and ask to drive an Impala for 8 hours. There will be plenty of them around to choose from.

The 20 sector SGT Suvs are going to be Explorers and will carry entry tools and ballistic protection (helmet and shields). This is so there will be heavy tools on the street to respond in the event of another VA Tech incident (the shooter chained the door shut). Cline got together with several commanders who have universities and colleges in their districts and came up with this plan. Fairly progressive...and kind of timely I've got to say.

Mark Chapulis is a protegee of Glenn Tatara. Chapulis thinks the sun rises and sets of Tataras ass. He went from motor truck driver to assistant commissioner under the Tatara and Picardi administration over at police maintenance. He remains at fleet to make sure that Tatara and Picardi continue to get their piece of the package.

Make no mistake about it, the head of the snake is still Tatara and Picardi. They are the reason we have no pool cars, Impalas, and cars with well over 100K miles on them. They still continue to live an extravagant life style living in very nice homes on the northwest side, wearing expensive clothes and golfing at the finest country clubs almost everyday.

Art Felton is a mope, has no clue as to what is going on, is not included in the Tatara and Picardi split and is just building his pension with a view of retiring soon.

I want to know why fat phil and dana have two cars each assigned to them. Yes, check it out. They both have a crown vic and a ford explorer fully loaded with all of the toys and two of everything, pdts, radios, sirens, lights…. Watch their parking spaces at police headquarters, on any given day you’ll see either car parked in their parking spot. We can’t even get enough decent cars out in the districts and here these two top dogs have two cars each. Nice going fleet.

I also want to know why is it that sgts and Lt.s at headquarters have take home cars when their boss also have take home cars. So when there is a major incident the boss, Lt and Sgt from the same unit all have to respond to the incident???? Some units have more than one Sgt and they all have take home cars. Look at dana’s staff to see who has take home cars, including his retired Sgt who is now getting “Coordinator” pay for being the acting Lt for the office of dana. That should be looked into, who assigns the cars anyway????

To the writer who commented about the commander of the 009th district who was having an affair with a police woman who works for him, you are mistaken. You and other readers have been reading too much "rumored information..." Most information on this blog is rumored. It may make for a type of twisted entertainment but it winds up hurting some copper in the long run. For example, this C/O has helped several coppers in the past, but no one writes about that. Working upstairs in 009, I've seen the things he's done for other coppers. HAving to do with the "alleged" affair, it happens to be a personal issue that shouldn't be brought up.

MEMO TO 6/11/2007 06:07:00 PM

Know someone before you make wild comments about them. The "Coordinator" of who you speak is, and always has been, a good guy. Stand up person who has never sold anyone down the stream. Because he was offered a job by the 1st Deputy that makes him a bad guy? Jealousy has reigned supreme on this job forever. Face it my friend that's all it is. You wish you had a friend in high places to help you out. Get a life junior and stop critizing others. Remember a wise man once said "the only thing wrong with a clique (click for you illeterates) is not being in it." Get a life and stop trying to lead others for them.
