Accountability?
Haven't we heard the mayor and his lackeys tossing around the word "responsibility" lately? Isn't the mayor quoted in the press lambasting parents to take responsibility for raising their kids properly, steering them away from gangs, stop shooting each other?
So, just out of curiosity, who ends up holding the bag for the 3rd of July fiasco brought to everyone by the CTA?

Electrical problems on CTA tracks left thousands of elevated train riders -- the majority attending Taste of Chicago and pre-Fourth of July fireworks at Grant Park -- either trapped on cars or standing on platforms waiting for trains that were not moving.
The elevated trains in the Loop stopped moving about 10:45 p.m. and didn't start again until nearly midnight, Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Sheila Gregory said.
- Newly appointed CTA President Ron Huberman was out working the scene. It took more than an hour to get the trains moving again, a difficult time for those waiting on board -- and for those waiting to board.
So why wasn't Huberman out there pushing the trains? Or pulling them? We guess you can't really blame Ron though - he has absolutely no experience actually running a transit system. He has almost no experience being a police officer either, but he still made exempt. This would be a fine example of what happens when you tend to neglect the infrastructure of a massive entity like the CTA and expect it to run anywhere near reliably when you need it to move a million people. Perhaps the mayor is to blame?

Speaking of accountability...We saw this coming but I overheard some tact guys talking about being issued cell phones with GPS capabilities. Whats this all about? Seems as though they may be using these cell phones for a "phone call" to get back to the watch. Grass is always greener. Call someone who cares.
Ron was not accountable on cpd except for spending millions on shit that is constantly breaking down! Like out of date computers with software and hardware that is so outdated it cannot be fixed! Ron said we would be totally paperless in 2 years when he was cpd now we have "make me 5 extra copies" and more paper! great job ronnie now you will fuck up the cta the same way you did cpd! Yep, it was a complete mess! And to complicate it further, 001st district was in a rap (backlog) due to an EXTREME shortage of manpower. I mean, where else in the city do they put up all 1-man beat cars on the 3rd watch with absolutely NO rapid response cars at all? On top of that, some of the beat cars are downed due to the shortage of bodies to man them. Imagine that... one of the most expensive places to live in the city (South Loop), where the people in their lofts and condos pay the highest taxes, has the smallest amount of beat coverage.
But the TRU unit is well manned.

The automated police system will be up and running by the end of the year. With all the camera systems installed, all the police will have to do is go to the offenders home and arrest him. The whole case will be on film.
I heard from a cta employee that they cut out overtime and if anyone gets called in for an emergency, they're not to answer the phone.
The CTA has massive problems because it has been a poorly run patronage haven for years. Granted Huberman is an incompentent phony, but the blame more properly belongs to Daley and the previous political hacks that he has chosen to run it.
Daley is not accountable and never will be held responsible.
Beware CTA employees, Ron will reform (raid) your pensions and cut your benefits.
Like much else of the city's infrastructure, it gets neglected while the mayor's private contractor/campaign contributors get rich. We get tax raises and benefit cuts as the city neighborhoods fall apart while Richie plants flowers.
If a developer with the right family connections wants to build "luxury condos" all the sewers and all other city infrastructure will be renewed at our expense.
The city and our benefits will fall apart, but it will look good as it happens.

ACCOUNTABILITY, something our leadership does not have. Several years ago the mayor attemted to sue the gun makers for accountability of their products. He spent several million of the tax payers dollars and hired his lawyer friend to file the suit. Untold millions was spent on trucks leased to the water department that he knew nothing about, but he took the campaign contributions from the truck owners. He's the boss and has no accountability for anything that happens on his watch. He is an expert at pissing away our tax dollars on bullshit.
I don't know if it is true or not but a man that works on the radio was telling the on air people that he was waiting on the "O" line at Midway to come downtown to work on the night of the third when an inquiry about the lack of trains resulted in the information that the trains would stay down there until after the show. It was preplanned and would clear out the loop faster. The few inconvenient North and South ends were a sacrifice for the greater good. If it worked someone would have looked like a genius.

Metra is cleaner,faster,on-time,reliable,has a bathroom onboard,nice seats and if you desire you can consume an adult beverage. I will never take the CTA El is I can avoid it.
Metra had off-duty coppers in almost every car on the 3rd of July. They run a very efficient service.

Heard that the construction workers there are instructed to keep their mouths shut about what's going on. Apparantly there was some poor measuring and everything was waaaaaay offffff. Isn't this another Walsh construction job????

I was in the theater watching the "new" DIE HARD film today.
During a scene in which a "CYBER ATTACK" is in high gear on the 4th of July, with traffic control systems,wall street financial computers,network t.v. airwaves,government computers (FBI,Social Security,etc.)and mass transit systems all compromised by evil computer hackers. NYC Detective Lt. John Mclean is in an FBI command post watching all the dysfunction and mayhem and watching the FBI F'ing up and the big boss getting more and more angry. During the scene agents on telephones in the background are yelling out incomming information to the big boss. (Ex. Wash DC traffic grid down,NY Stock exchange down etc.)BUT THE FUNNIEST, WAS WHEN AN FBI AGENT SHOUTS "CHICAGO IS REPORTING THE ENTIRE "EL" SYSTEM HAS STOPPED!" or something along those lines.
I couldn't help but think of the CTA elevated line shutting down on the 3rd of July for several hours after the fireworks display..and Ron Huberman probably shitting himself just like the FBI superviser in the movie!
All-in-all a good film. To use the hustler film rating system, I give it a FULLY ERECT!
But I was amused at "liberal hollywood's" political correctness, by making the FBI boss a person of Arab ethnicity. What are they subliminally suggesting?
That arabs aren't terrorists, but in fact the good guys. I don't know, I mean over 6,000 killed in 9/11 & Iraqi freedom. They are going to have to portray more than (1) arab in a good-guy role before I let my guard down!

No brainchild thinking there. School unit officers know the students assigned to a school intimately. They know the players,the gangs,the truants,the troublemakers,and the good kids. District personnel do not, nor do they have the time to find out.
Phat Phil keeps making up new units to fill with clout babies, while getting rid of one that actually served a viable purpose.
The districts are way too thin on second watch to divert two or more cars at recess time or when trouble flares. In some districts this literally takes up to 30% of available manpower from service.
Hopefully the new administration will get back to the basics and rectify the current wrongs.
