Officer of the Month

Dick Devine announced his retirement Friday. The list of candidates jockeying for the job has grown quite a bit. One name should stand out in particular to all police officers. A letter we received from a west side copper:
  • SCC,

A friend called us relating the following regarding the press conference where Devine announced his intention to step down at the end of his term. A reporter there asked Devine the following:

(paraphrasing here) Alderman Harold Brookins has promised to indict one police officer a month should he be elected to the office of State's Attorney. What do you have to say to that?

Devine stated something along the lines that if Brookins did say anything like that, he has no business running for the office of State's Attorney.

Just thought you and your readers ought to know

Well, that's some campaign promise to run on, wouldn't you say? One officer a month. We're attempting to find some report or interview in which Brookins is quote as saying this, but we don't actually doubt it in the least.

The Daily Law Bulletin quotes Devine as saying that one of his accomplishments in office was the prosecution of 140 cops. Apparently the prosecution of cops gets you good press.

There is a difference, however, from having prosecuted cases that come to you in the normal way and SEEKING cases to prosecute! The alderman's comment was improper and a violation of ethics for lawyers and/or prosecutors.

That piece of shit brookins should be more concerned about that inept den of thieves that he is a part of. We don't need 50 Aldermen for the city. There are only 100 Senators for the entire nation.

I saw Brookins at the Bud Billikin Parade looking like a fool with a "Brookings for States Attorney" t-shirt.

You don't stand a chance in hell, you are a southside pimp of an alderman. That is all. Accept it.

Anyone else have to work the Bud Billikin Parade?

What a fucking zoo.

I don't know what was worse, the 11 hours in the 90 degree heat, the dozens of gang fights involving roving packs of thugs, the shots fired, the four hundred dance troops of toddler girls shaking their asses or the hundreds of missing kids.

Time to shut this "parade" down.

Did Brookins hear about the Duke case in North Carolina? Vote him in and lets make some cops get millions.

Indict away....the only way I get out of the squad car nowadays is to waddle into Starbucks for my looooong ass personal.Make arrests?Street stops? Are you fucking serious?Oh,look Junebugs running and holding his hip.....19P.I came on this joke of a Dept.to make a living while doing something worthwhile for society in general. All the changes in policy and procedures over the last few years have made "policing"next to impossible. Now some assclown wants to indict us all....I guess I'm somehow gonna have to find a way to do less and spend less time in contact with the public.I used to laugh at the candy ass pansies who finished their probation and went into hiding for the rest of their careers....neighborhood relations,CAPS office, different do nothing units that daddy or the jocker put them in.Well the joke was on me.I've worked the street my whole shitty career........jumping like some fucking stooge everytime some moron called 911 with some idiotic problem, getting shit on by miserable, cocksucker bosses and inspectors.Any copper that gets involved in anything at this point of CPD history is almost asking to get indicted.

The front runner is Cook County Comm. Larry Sufferdin. He has already lined up the support of the Democratic Ward bosses. He will be good for the office. He is honest, bright and well spoken.

The media keeps saying the Bud Billikin parade is all about the message of getting back to school.

Beside the ONE CPS float, it was all about dancing and juking.

Oh, and NO mention of the huge gang fights and hundreds of missing little kids.

Daley is all about "getting kids back to school September fourth."

That is because the amount of kids in school on the first day, and the first day only, determines the amount of federal dollars the city gets for the next school year.

After the first day, no one can show up and they get the money.

I see where Daley's true priorities lie.

If the Brookins quote is accurate, it sounds like a violation of the Attorney's Code of Professional Responsibility. Perhaps the Illinois Supreme Court would be interested.

Brookins has a problem with law enforcement, because from what I understand HE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE LAW! I hear he's on thin ice with the city or the G.

It's way more likely that one alderman a month will get indicted.

That pest hole of thieves, the chicago city council, produces way more crooks than the CPD ever will.

Is Brookins even a Lawyer? If so where did he get his degree? Where did he practice? What did he practice? How long did he practice?
How much time has he spent in a court room???

Oh wait, this is Cook County you dont need to be a Lawyer to be States Attorny.

What was I thinking we live in a country where one can run for president with no qualifications, H. Clinton and Obama!

One or two terms as a Senator does not even come close!

You can be a state Senator with no qualifications, Meeks!

Ruuning a Church, preaching hate from the Pulpet and collecting and pocketing millions of dollars is criminal not a qualification!

You Can be the Cook County Board President with no qualifications, Aaaah, wait he inherited his expertise, I forgot.

listening to Daddy talk about County business at family gatherings does not qualify one to be an expert in anything.

One can be the Top Cop of the Chicago Police Department with a GED, even if you can speak in complete sentences.

Actually the only qualification you need these days is a big mouth and know how to play the race card.

The new America be all you can be!

No offense, and I do mean that, but there are some cops in Chicago that need to prosecuted, and it ought to be a very high priority. Us mere citizens have to have some kind of assurance that the police are not just rogues.

This being Chicago, it seems doubtful that any of the politicians are real clean themselves.

More reason I am forever glad I do not live there anymore.

Thank you for this blog. I learn things that the news would never report.
I made an observation while watching the B. B. parade yesterday.
Off topic.
Karen Jordan of Channel 7 caught up with Obama and by way of introduction said something like "Here is the next president of the United States...HOPEFULLY."
So much for the imparciality of our Chicago news media. She was practically giddy.

Brookins' chance of being States Atty. are slim to none. It is true that the man does decidedly not like the police but his politics are another story. He is not in the Daley camp and has gone out of his way to incite the midgets furor. This past election season, Brookins was given $4500 from the Jesse Jr. campaign fund. That in itself is enough to tell you that Brookins has a snowballs chance in hell to make Stater Atty.

Why don't they do a department wide urine analysis?

Answer; Because they know that anywhere from 5-14% of the CPD would fail depending upon the day, time, month, etc.

Nothing wrong with Brookins. I went up against him in criminal courts and traffic court years ago.
Most times I won, but he provided a solid defense for his clients.
Since being assigned to 006, I've had some contact with him. I've seen it posted here that he doesn't like the Police. Even though we aren't friends, when I've bumped into him, our conversations have always been cordial and respectful. So don't believe all you read HERE about anyone. HE certainly can't do any worse than Devine; The ASA's office is about the shabbiest I've ever seen it in 21 years on the CPD. One thing we know for certain, he won't be propped up by the Mayor, and we can certainly use more politicians like that in Cook County.
