CTA Scandal
Granted, the golden child wasn't in charge during most of this, but it hints at larger endemic corruption throughout the entire City system:
Federal safety investigators blame last year's CTA Blue Line derailment on poor track conditions that grew out of faulty inspections, falsified reports and systemic management failures in the transit agency's maintenance and inspection departments.
Obvious track defects that should have been included in CTA inspection reports weren't. And other reports were falsified to show that repairs had been made when they hadn't been, according to a scathing report issued today by the National Transportation Safety Board.
- Since the accident, 42 inspectors have been added to inspect tracks and the CTA says they are working on repairing damaged lines and getting more advanced equipment to better monitor tracks.
- The CTA's one-day classroom training for inspectors didn't even cover tunnel conditions, investigators found.
Forty-two inspectors hired since the incident? Inadequate training? Does this remind anyone of any other City inspector positions? Maybe 18-year-old journeyman carpenter Building Inspectors? Shades of "The Sopranos" no-show construction jobs?

Let these idiots ruin this city even more. Then they can be the Mayor of Ghettocago, etc. Garfield Ridge is losing (3) major bus routes [62H, 55A, 55N], the burbs even worse! The Orange Line will be next to derail. The cars are swaying just like the Blue did prior to derailing; tracks are loose.
Yet, Mayor Daley has (3) different drivers for him and his family? wtf? Their asses should be doing what we do: walk and wait for the EL or bus. Let's see him take hour & 1/2 to move 6 miles one way. Hope about our clown Gov.? He wants to live in the city, not the capitol? Pay to travel to Springfield out of your OWN pocket.

i see the cta waste money on a daily basis.
they run full size or articulated busses on rutes and at times when there are few riders.
they "gang" busses rather than spred them out 5 - 15 mins so the first bus is packed and the trailing bus is allmost empty.
they, like the rest of this city, are so scared of the reverends that they make unwise route decisions providing largely unused high frequency service to areas in an effort to aviod conflict.
i realize that like most gov't operations the cta is working welfare but it can and must be run more efficiantly.

The federal magistrate has finally made a decision on the FLSA lawsuit. The city has lost this one!! The FOP and PBPA should soon have some more information on it on their sites. In the new contracts it will state the department MUST grant you “time-due” as long as you put a slip in a reasonable amount of time, say 48 hours.
The city argued that they ARE VERY SHORT ON MANPOWER and can not grant time due so easily. HOWEVER - – Other bosses in the department bullshit that we have 13,500 sworn officers. SO . . What’s the REAL truth Mr. City Attorney???

If the CTA is in such financial trouble, why then did Huberman just hire an attorney from corporation counsel who was about to get fired for living in the subarbs? Plus the salary for this attorney with initials J.A. is well over 100k.

As much as I don't like Huberman, the guy who has to wear the hat for this is Daley's good friend Frank Kruesi who ran the CTA before him.

Mayor Daley, the most corrupt mayor in the US is supporting Obama for President. Obama is a full fledged member of the Cook County Democratic (Daley) Organization.

I am sure that nationwide there are a crop of young college graduates with degrees in areas ranging from engineering,transportation,architecture,
design, etc.,that would be willing to work for $40-50K/per year to do the job, not to mention being qualified and a bargain.
But the "Chicago way" is to hire some donors kid with the G.E.D. or a criminal with a checkered past..give him 1 day of training and a City I.D. and pay him $ 60-90K/per year, and when something goes wrong insist that they were the most qualified. "If you repeat it enough, IT MAKES IT TRUE!"

Bus Man Says;
CTA working rules are as old as the company.
Drivers cannot pass another bus, but must follow their Leader. That's why you see the bus conga lines. Only a line supervisor can give them permission to move ahead.
A operator can never be Ahead of his schedule, or he is written up. But their is no punishment for being Late on your schedule.
Some times you will see drivers leap frog each other, but if they are caught by a supervisor (ouch)!
We need Lieberhoser as much as we needed Hitler in WW 2.
Our organization (CTA) is so full of waste, it may never be corrected. Political hires are rampant. The Union is so weak, we almost don't need it. And the quality of the new hires is shameful.
