Is Nowhere Safe?
- A man who accidentally shot himself in the face early Friday in a residence off the Magnificent Mile was expected to survive and receive misdemeanor weapons-related violations, police said.
The man was inside a residence and accidentally shot himself with a small caliber handgun, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry.
The man, 23, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the face, according to News Affairs Officer David Banks, who did not know the man's condition.
Misdemeanor charges pending. All the gun laws in the world aren't going to stop criminals from doing what they want. And they aren't going to stop stupid people from harming themselves either.

Every other police dept on earth uses the Glock and there is no glaring problem with this system....accidents will always happen no matter what kind of operating system is used...if you are careful and follow instruction and keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to kill the SOB you (we) should all be fine.

How many cops accidently discharge their weapons each year or shoot themselves in the ass? Maybe we should ban you from woning a gun for being a retard.

First we need to examine the origins of this fixation. I'll keep this short since some of you have complained about my lengthily responses.
Guns are a fixture of history; there is no need to go over that. However, one only needs to look at the liberal media to see where the current fixation stems. In movies and on any given TV channel, glorification of violence runs unabated. Liberals cry 1st Amendment and want their "art" protected while people like myself need to block out a majority of the satellite channels from my children. Take a look at who perpetuates this fixation. Then take a look at who protects their rights to poison society.
I take it by your comment that you are not scared. Well good for you! I guess you live in a city where the police show up instantly to any crime and take action before the bad guy can cause some damage. Sure, some of us are scared, and so am I. News flash: the police cannot come to the rescue before the bad guy can shoot someone. Unless you live in the future and cops fall out of the sky like Minority Report, I would suggest arming yourself. I would rather have a gun and die trying to save myself and family, than just letting them kill me without a fight. The chance of a gun saving my life may be small, but a small chance is better than none, especially when you compare my life to theirs. I watched America's Most Wanted tonight. They told the story of a clerk who cooperated fully and handed over the money during an armed robbery. Despite the clerk being cooperative, the offender fatally shot him in the chest. Way to go liberal ideology!
And to address your comment about not training with the weapon. Anyone serious about guns and self-protection will certainly practice with it. I've fired several hundred rounds through my gun. Why? Because if I have to shoot it at someone, I don't want to miss.
Bad people will do bad things and they don't care about the law or jail, and have no respect for anyone or anything. The truth of it is most of them live a better life on the inside of a prison than they would on the street. When you have nothing to lose what is an effective deterrent?
I agree the fixation needs to end, but who should it end with? Us; Normal people who rationalize their actions and would use deadly force only as a last resort? Or them; Who's first reaction to anything is to "bust a cap", and proclivity for violence is matched only by their stupidity.

Considering the number of police officers, practically NONE accidentally shoot themselves every year... I doubt if the averaged out number over the last 10 years would even be up to 1.
