A Worrying Trend
- Despite a recent small uptick in violent crime, most Americans are still by and large safer than they were in the crack-fueled early 1990s. The one notable exception is the people whose job it is to combat crime on a daily basis - the nation's police officers, who are being targeted and killed in greater numbers than at any time in recent years.
- "There just seems to be that there's a greater willingness on the part of these bad guys to take out a police officer," Miami Police Chief John Timoney told TIME. "I see that locally here. Then you look at it nationally, there's [also] been a huge increase.
The article veers into the la-la-land of anti gun propaganda in an effort to make people think that citizens who live in states that have concealed carry laws are out there gunning down the police, which is absolute bullshit. Concealed carry people have a lower incidence of run-ins with police than average.
But the numbers of officers killed isn't pretty. Stay aware. Stay safe.

Well, if the police continue to kill goblins who brandish or engage in play with firearms then it wouldn't be a worrying trend i.m.h.o. The same thing with putting hands on a police officer, the law says I cannot be touched... there is nothing in the law that says some mouth breather can make/attempt to make unwanted physical contact that can be interpreted as an assualt or battery to myself or my fellow officers. In addition, nothing on the books says police officers can't knock people down and hurt them for assaulting or battering a P.O. or someone the P.O. is rendering assistance to. Yes some supervisors will piss and moan about it...the one's who never had to hold their own in a pissy hallway on the 13th floor that is. Then P.O.'s have to answer for silly beefs (still pissed that the sgt. didn't tell the offender to go fuck himself but then again the hospital would have called and made a beef I reckon) that state in essence "yes I resisted arrest, yes I fought with the ossifer but he didn't have to kick my knee in, knock my teeth out and open a gash on my head when he executed an emergency take down to control and cuff me." Used to be that an offender who got his/her ass kicked took it like a man/woman and admit they had it coming. Officers, please go home safely... Supervisors, please push the States Attorney for felony approval... Mr. States Attorney, tell your asa's to stop picking and choosing approval for "winnable" cases and apply sanction where the LAW says to apply it. Thank you.

I never thought I would say this but we need the consent decree. We have to take control of this department away from Daley and his suckasses. This will make the department safer, we will be staffed properly. I believe that this is the only hope for all of us. We are so short yet they are still pulling people out of patrol and putting them in units on phone orders. People don't even know because it does not come out in print until the transfer orders come out. We need federal regulation, If you do your job properly why should you care, it will be a safer department especially for all of us in 004,005,006,007,11,15.. the ones who are getting screwed every day. Are you tired of being denied time, are you tired of working your ass off and denied lunch, think about it. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Unfortunately, a lot of the police now don't want to be bothered with talking to the detectives and the asa to get felony approval. The victim officer doesn't want the felony approval.

Though we are undermanned and out gunned, we in Chicago have been bucking a national trend when it comes to officers being targeted and killed. Pray that our luck continues.

A man training to be a Chicago Police officer claims he was terminated from the Chicago Police Academy because he was Polish and "looked terrible."
Peter J. Palka is suing the Chicago Police Department and Matthew Tobias, assistant deputy superintendent of the police academy, alleging he was kicked out of the academy this year because of his race and nationality.
If you look at the violence stats in Chicago, you can see that the changes didn't have anything to do with crack. They had to do with police tactics. The murder rate plummeted one evening in May, 2003, when Harrison was flooded with cops.
Two months later, Hillard was ousted for his decade of opposition to new tactics, and the new tactics were taken more or less citywide. If you don't know when this happened, just go to the month-by-month murder stats, and you can guess. It's the month that was suddenly much more peaceful than the same month one year earlier.
A big portion of the nationwide decline in violence is the decline right here in Chicago. There has been no gradual decline anywhere. Instead, there have been a few big cities that changed tactics, suddenly became much more peaceful, and their size meant that their success statistically overwhelmed any other changes in smaller cities. Crack had almost nothing to do with it.
Yet Chicago cops still think the city is more peaceful because yuppies are moving in. Yeah, right! As if 200,000 yuppies suddenly moved into Harrison in May, 2003.

What is the scoop on the threats to kill cops in every district due to the loss of muslim lives in the war. Anybody know if the threat is legit? Are the feds getting involved?
I'm all for CCW... let's face it, the police cannot be everywhere and shitheads are. Those responsible citizens who desire a ccw license should be able to upon meeting certain criteria...
1. No arrests or convictions whatsoever.
2. Work a minimun of 5 years on a job to demonstrate some type of stability.
3. Background investigation and psychological screening.
4. @ 10 to 12 weeks of classroom instruction on law, civil and criminal liability with say a minimum pass rate of %80 before even touching a weapon?
5. bonded and insured for $500k minimum?
6. Notation on Illinois ID/DL as possessor of CCW in addition to having valid FOID and CCW license?
7. Immediate surrender provisions in certain scenarios?
Don't flame the messenger, just some ideas off the top of my head. Of course the stumbling, farting wet eyed inebriate on floor five will squeak loudly and shake his little fists in outrage. I went through the academy in 1978. We were taught sergeants and above reply "10-4" because it's obvious they are 1 man.
I HATE when I hear a dipshit sergeant say "10-99". Drives me nuts. Perhaps I should retire but I'm waiting for the free insurance next year. 10-4?

Second, it was written about a few weeks ago on this blog
Third, evidently he failed the firearms qualification, standard procedure is to terminate if the recruit can't pass after the 3rd try and about 16 hours of one on one training over and above what everyone else gets... 99+% of all recruits pass prior to this point....
Oh yes he has changed, I worked with him when he was a P.O. and a damned good one at that, as soon as he got thoes stripes, company man all the way.He got weird.

I dont believe that crime is down. The only reason the numbers are down is because we dont make traffic stops anymore.
We dont make arrests anymore.
The new improved useless arrest procedure makes it 20 times harder to make an arrest.
Crime isnt down arrests are, however the idiots in charge will argue that arrests are not down...thats because our almighty tac teams are arresting the homeless like crazy for drinking on the public way. There is your numbers.

You seem to be unintentionally saying something about Illinois. After all, MOST other states including Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Kentucky have shall-issue CCW and those things AREN'T happening. You seem more interested in protecting violent criminals than much of anything else.

These numbers are skewed too. There are a lot of variables. Back then, a Batt to P.O. required a typed package by the WC. How many had a WC that willingly did a package everytime it came up???? Unless you were put in the hospital, a lot of WC's would not do them. Now they are easier to do as they are all online.
Not to say that there isn't a trend towards more Batt to P.O's but that it is easier to report it now.

Any one who ever served on a military color guard would never tolerate the display of a foreign flag above the US flag on US soil.
A Korean chuch on the 4400 block of Damen did this in 019 several years ago. Several civilian vets went into the church and set things straight. They immediately complied with verbal direction and switched the order. 19-David. No police action necessary. The church is still there. Don't start none, don't have none.

Today, two recruits fired for failing the range. They did not cry or sue. Strict standards in academy. Must pass range, gym and academics. No clout, no breaks. No recruit has ever won a suit against academy. Go ahead and sue.
