Damn, We are Popular

Firstly, we apologize for the comment situation in the "Three 12-hour Days" post. Here's a little explanation:
  • We post late at night or early in the morning.
  • We moderate comments once in the AM
  • We moderate comments once in the PM
  • Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
When a BIG story like this work schedule change hits the blog, we arrive to an overload of comments, today, somewhere near 300 waiting to be posted. That takes time and it also buries the reader under a few hundred comments that might not have been there when he checked in 12 hours ago. Look at this chart:

We are going to do over 6,000 hits for the 4th time in 8 days and the 5th time this month. We'll have 100,000 page views for February by tonight. There just happens to be a shitload of interest in where things are going with a new guy in charge. We'd love to be able to leave the comments wide open and in real time, but unfortunately, certain persons have proven they can't be trusted with such things. Even tonight, we had to delete seven comments from someone who has been banned for almost two years because he copy/pastes the same word over and over and over about 15,000 times.

You don't have to wade through that crap because we do it for you. But the result is sometimes you get 200 comments thrown up in a short time frame. Sorry about that. It's what we have at the moment. And thanks to everyone for coming by - that's 6,000 visits a day when we're banned on Department computers (at least the ones that aren't at 35th Street - Hi Chief!)

UPDATE: Post corrected for hairstyling sequence - damn this pomade.

SCC,

The 12 hour workday is the hottest issue to ever hit this board,I am surprised the volume it brought didn't knockout your server.

Everywhere you go everyone on the CPD is excited and talking about going to 12 hour days.

You have to admit the Superintendent hit a home run on this one.

Anything but the 6 day work weeks. I hated it when I was on the job and I am sure those who are still there hate it also. Police deserve better

Here we go--FOP wants research (most cops want it) etc etc... No wonder stuff NEVER gets done. It things are bad for us they move overnight but good things take forever, Goofs.

Someone ALWAYS has to spoil a good thing. It happens on a lot of other blogs too, mine included.

Congrats on all the hits, SCC.

I don't care how we get rid of the 6th working day, but lets do it. Personally I prefer 4 ten hour days, but either one is better than what we have now. I do feel sorry for people who have baby sitter issues and people who are going to school, but those that issues with their side jobs, too bad. Work your side job on your days off. As for the Captains and Lieutenants too bad. I think the city would like it because they could eliminate some supervisory spots.

dam you apple and your nifty iPhone that is so addictive.

I know why the blackberrys went down every exempt from 35th was putting in their comments about the 12 hr days. Made their servers go down followed by a loud shrill that was drowned out by the green line passing by.

Why not just try to make one post open and ongoing real time?

Why not just try to make one post open and ongoing real time?

Because of two reasons:

1) It's all or nothing with e-Blogger. We can't pick and choose which posts would be open and in real time.

2) Because we know what's out there and what we wade through each day moderating.

People bitch about us letting words like "savage" go through even when there is nothing in the post suggesting it is referring to anything except antisocial behavior.

They wouldn't bitch as much if they saw the stuff we didn't allow, the obviously twisted shit that doesn't make any bones about who they're referring to.

Since absolutely no one likes the 6 day work week I propose this schedule:

Beat Cars will work 12 hour days making two shifts. Proposed start time 5am to 5pm, 5pm to 5am late cars start at 6.

All rapids will be 10 hour shifts there will only be two shifts 8am to 6pm and 4pm to 2am.

Just throwing this out there since FOP isn't putting any possibilities except the 6 and 3.

Let me know what you guys think.

Lots of big talk about working short weeks (10-12 hr days) but who is willing to give up their benefits that it took decades to earn. Lose v-days, bfd's, p-days, uniform money, change of shift money, maybe holidays?

I think NOT!

Anyone with a brain knows the city will want it all in return.

The 6-3 is not perfect, but it will give you an extra day off.

Wake up partner, (that's what you'll be saying during the 11th and 12th hour day or night).

Correction: It is SCC!
SCC has provided this electronic forum and anonimity avenue for the exchange of ideas, comments, opinions, and rants.

This used to take place in bars and parking lots with a beer in your hand. I used to run the 6 to 2 brew crew. Not any more.

Yes, Supt. Weis is popular. And his appointment has been the target and subject of many hits. But it's the avenue that SCC provides that must also be recognized and heralded as a genuine therapeutic media.
