We also noticed in the recent Pax 501 from the Superintendent's Office that he was quoting the "13,500" number that is demonstratively false.
Is the manpower shortage that everyone is noticing daily in the districts about to rear its ugly head?

Case in point… I was RDO tonight and just finished a side job and was driving home (in BT: 2211). I observe one fucked up drunk driving m/2/17yr old. He blows the 3 lights on 103rd St. and then comes to a stop (passed out) on a side street. Yes, I was curious so I drove up to the car. It had an FOP medallion on the bumper of this “piece of shit minivan.” The kid was asleep. Yes, I fucked up & went against my better judgment- I helped him.
I woke him up, he said his dad was 5.0 and he gave me his address (about 1 ½ blocks up). I parked my ride and then slide him over to the pass. seat and drove him home. Upon getting him home (where an unmarked crown vic. was parked in the driveway) the kid panics and demands the keys back so he can drive away. I ignore junior and walk to the door. He has the fucking balls to threaten to hit me if I knock, but I knock anyway (he didn’t do shit). Then the kid opens the door himself and screams just like a shithead, “Dad, dad, there is some JAG-OFF copper down here that wants to talk to you.” Dad comes down and IDs himself as the police and I return junior & the keys to dad and I leave, The End.
I’m not looking for a pat on the back, I’m just making the observation that “professional courtesies” to police families are far and few between these days-don’t be an asshat to the copper. BTW, dad could have offered to give me a lift back to my car, oh well. Next time I guess junior can deal with Evergreen Park issuing him a DUI. Maybe I learned a bigger lesson here than junior.

Since J-Fed has arrived the murder rate has risen!! There are many reason for this:
1) People are doing the minimal at work and the supervisors that were once supportive of the patrolman are now backing away.
2)With J-Fed conducting "operation clean-up" everyone is cautious of their work, after all J-Fed is looking to make examples of anyone who conducts themselves of the traditional way of policing.
3)I hope he is seen as an "idiot" who provides no solution to the homicide rate!

About 22 years ago; four gang crimes west officers developed information that eventually cleared 500 garage burglaries in 016 and other parts of the NW side and recovered a lot of the proceeds from the fences.
I sincerly believe that they could do it again. Give them a chance to form that same team again.
One is a tac Lt, 1 Sgt, 1 PO in intelligence, the other retired.
They knew something about street level investigations.
At least the copper's kid din't puke in your car when you gave him a ride home.

Murder is up because the criminals are shooting straighter...What are the actually percentage of OFFICERS stopping a homicide(s)...negligible at best, we respond after the dastardly deeds are done. Catching a UUW on the street is not necessarily stopping a homicide.

i used to keep the numbers for gun recoveies in sos and in the time before the finnegan scandal hit
sos was recovering over 100 guns a period sometimes over 200 a period.
they lead the city in gun recoveries for years at least 5 to 1 over any other area, district, or unit...... including tru!
well now that is gone it can only lead to a spike in murders. you can bash the sons of supervisors all you want, but they did get guns, please don't ramble on about how they violated rights to do it, thats not the point here, and besides they gone now. let the show begin

What did you accomplish but enable the alcoholic teen to continue his very dangerous behavior. it was apparent the father did not care. Why should you? I would have called 911 and reported and driver asleep behind the wheel. Think it was 38 or so homicides in January. But the number dropped dramatically in February to about 16. However, with warm more stable weather lately, there have been much more shootings/homicides. 7-9 already in March. That and there is an ongoing gang conflict (La Raza vs Latin Saints) in 009 that not even the mighty TRU has been able to quash.
Also, let's not forget there has already been 1(one) triple homicide and 3(three) double homicides.
This summer is going to be very bad. A lot of people expected last summer to be out of control, but it wasn't. This year I'm 90% positive we will get back up to 500 homicides. 008 and 009 will both see rises. And I'd say expect abnormally high numbers in 004 and 006 if they don't do something about the man power issue. 005, 010, and 015 will also have it's share of problems. 003, 007, 011, 025 will all be what they usually are good for 30-40 homicides each.

Over/under for 2008 is 752 murders. Almost 300 more than last year.
The new media count for CPS students murdered in 2008 will end at or near 83. It was at 17 as of March 1. There were 27 recorded homicides of CPS students in 2007. In past years, "students" murdered in the summer months were often not classified as CPS students. Remember to fill in that Occupation box on your GOCR as "CPS Student" even in the summer.

Thousands of drunk driving, average citizens, not related to anyone, have been driven home over the years by policeman on and off duty..Yes, that's right..If we arrested every drunk driver some nights there wouldn't be a policeman left on the streets to come when your scary ass hears a noise outside your window. It's called discretion and whether it was an "appropriate" use of discretion or not, it was done and will continue to be. All we can hope and pray for is when you eventually fuck up, and you will, the officer who catches you does everything straight by the book....

Not true, yes the Saints-Razas are on-going, but it happens either before TRU gets there or after they leave, or not in the DOC, (like Canaryville the other day) and while yes, Roy is a stroke, he has no bearing on what they do.

i used to keep the numbers for gun recoveies in sos and in the time before the finnegan scandal hit
sos was recovering over 100 guns a period sometimes over 200 a period.

I feel for all of the good people who actually did well on this test with no outside help. Believe me there are quite a few. The only redemption is that I'm sure most of you will do well again. As far as demoting the first class, go ahead and try.I worked in Patrol with no clout my entire career and I will gladly take a polygraph about my study practices. In fact I didn't even retake part two. So go ahead and demote me, I could use a good payday and a bump up to Captain when my law suit is settled.

This is nuts, who said don't arrest DUI's? Read the whole post again and if you can find where it says don't arrest DUI's, I'll kiss your bare ass. What it said was don't hate the guy who took the kid home, policeman have been driving people home, people related to no one and of all colors and walks of life since cars were invented, I'm sure. The other point is that it's a little naive to think arresting someone will change a behavior in all cases. Every policeman knows countless stories were repeat, repeat offenders were given "intensive probation." I alway liked that one, it stands for we really mean it next time. Of course drunk drivers should be arrested, of course we should aggressively look for them, they kill so many innocent people. But what is scary about you folks who get so political over one issue is you loose your human perspective. Everyone makes errors in judgments and unfortunately sometimes those errors are deadly. But when no harm or damage occurs and it's not a habitual drunk driver, some times compassion can go farther then punishment. I hate drunk drivers, probably more then you, I was the actual victim of one. But still, i recognize nothing is black and white and nothing works all the time.

Tru is "elite"? I've read in the papers that Officers in Tru are considered by some to be elite. There are some good VETERAN officers in Tru, but the majority of them seem to be 3 year wonders that were mediocre in their districts, and couldn't get on a Tact or Gang team. Give me a break.
Can anyone tell me why Skahill has Tact/Gang teams consistantly working 2000-0430 instead of 1800-0230 everynight on their evening rotation? It's pointless, and it's wearing the Officers out. Activity drastically drops off after 11pm in the winter! So are we supposed to look like the walking dead at court? She does not care about Officers. She's a complete idiot.
