Mette Bus Trip
According to the website, there is a bus trip being arranged:
- The Mike Mette Defense Fund is setting up a bus trip to Iowa for a protest of Mike's injustice. Currently the date is being set for July 22nd, 2008. We plan to March on the County Courthouse and possibly the Dubuque County Fair, during their opening ceremonies...Further info and details will be posted on our website regarding meeting location and time.. All are welcome to join us.

Yeah, No doubt. I see YOU won't be making it. Mike's fellow officers didn't do a fucking thing to help him (unless bitching on a blog counts ------ It doesn't!). Prediction: There won't be more than one bus going to Iowa in July. Admit it, we suck at everything except complaining. We're real good at complaining.

CHECK IOWA LAW regarding demostration(S), assemblage of person(S) on publicway some municipalities requires permits.

Have enough money to cover BOND on you, when in groups do not congregate whereas you may block entrances, exits, doorways or cause an interuption of flow of vehicular traffic or foot traffic by locals, do not engage in debate with possible opposing groups, police or public safety personnel, have contingent plans for return trip
say we stick together and just skip St. Judes. Yeah, I know what it stands for, but sooner or later we need to stand together. This seems like the only place where most cops congregate so why not use the oppertunity to send our message before it gets any worse. Lets let the mayor really know how we feel. With all the press there,,,I'm sure J-Fed will have a hell of a time explaining why no one showed up. Shit will trickle down hill. TO-FROMS will be made explaining why people skipped out, but what an impression it would leave!!

OK - right, you can't get 5 coppers to aggree on a lunch spot.
All the suck-ass inside folks will be there, ill fitting uniforms and all.
The only time most bosses [esp. the new type] even acknowledge a PO is at his wake/funeral. The same jackass [MR, Acosta, etc] who wouldn't return a hello from a working cop in life, will act like they knew him or her post mortum.
Hope there's a special section of Hell for these type of bosses, I've seen their act at 2 friends wakes.

sounds like a great idea, but the dubuque police will end up arresting even more coppers for violating the city noise policy, and/or public intoxication, in which you can get locked up for public intoxication even if u blow a .01 (TRUE!)

Let's not make this a personal issue between Chicago cops and Iowa cops, that's diluting the issue and losing focus. The fact is, we will be there to show Mike that we haven't forgotten him or what the Iowa "justice" system did to him.

I will be on vacation. You know the one you pick your furlo for a YEAR ahead of time? May or June wide open for me. Give up my vacation with my family? NOPE. I think something more should have been done BEFORE his trial.
Mike's vacation will last a lot longer than one day..if a few hundred, a thousand would be better, gave just that one day...all at once..it would certainly effect something if not how Mike feels..he wont get to pick and choose his furlos or family days..last year or this year.
Its only one day and my family will understand. I'll be there for you Mike!

I'm sorry if this question is old but have been out of town. Has Mette gone before a parole board or have a chance for early release yet ?
We never hear anything about this anymore and what has happened in response from Iowa if any ?
What about the guy he had the fight with? I'm still so worked up over this and can't believe he gets nothing for his actions.

Mike was told he was going in front of the parole board on April 16 but a week before he got a letter stating that they would not see him. The reason??? He had not completed a class about victims. No where in his file coudl his counselor find that he had to take this class. The class does not start until October and then he can go to them in January of 2009. In the meantime Iowa makes something like $16,000.
