Shooting Map

Let's just say we LOVE this new feature at the Channel 2 website. About halfway down on the main page is a box titled "City Under Fire: Map of Recent Shootings." It's a current Google map covered in little blue and red flags. Blue is a shooting. Red is a fatality.

We aren't sure where they draw the data and how far it goes back, but if we could live link it we certainly would. Hop over and take a peek - we figure this might catch on. It looks like it's going to get really good use this summer.

It's a nice feature and should show citizens a lot. Unfortunately, judging from my district alone, it isn't very accurate.

After retirement which is soon I am going to claim the tour buses leaving the downtown districts for distribution of "MAP OF THE SHOOTINGS". Ya know like "map of the stars" in L.A. except Chicago Style.

it's easy to get the data from chicagopolice.org using the clearmap.

the map is missing a ton of shootings/homicides.

If you go to the 011th District shooting map and pan out, the blue and red flags form the shape of the letters "T S". Me thinks an investigation is warranted.

Was watching WGN news at 9 tonight and they mentioned how it was a "bloddy day in Baghdad" and that 10 people were killed or something like that in a bombing. Then I sat there and thought to myself, hmmmm, the other weekend there were like 20 people killed (that we know of) in Chicago...nice to know Chicago is worse than BAGHDAD!! Baghdad has a better chance of Olympics, hell, its prolly safer. Im lateraling to Baghdad PD, hahaha

If they don't maintain this well you can easily start your own using google maps api. You can get locations from citizen i-cam or whatever the hell they call iclear these days.

I've thought the same thing.

Haven't more children been killed in Chicago than in Baghdad?

I'd like the ass kissing Chicago media to just once ask King Richard II about that.

I'm just glad that no one is getting shot by my house. No one is getting shot by any of my friends houses either? In fact I don't know any one that lives even remotely close to any of the shootings. Thats strange. I wonder what type of people live in those areas?

Check out quick stat on Iclear. Detailed list and graph of homicides and agg batts for the last three years. Also shows a comparison of recovered guns for the year vs last year. Currently it shows us down over 400 guns. Calls of service are also analyzed showing an increase or decrease. Shots fired calls last time I checked were up +3000 more than last year.
