Bad News Everywhere

  • Chicago continues to see a drastic spike in murders, mostly from gang-related shootings, through the end of July 2008, according to crime statistics released Monday by Chicago police.
  • The department is also surveying its cops about whether they would like the department to change the look of their vehicles [...] The department provided the survey to the Fraternal Order of Police. The union posted it on its Web site, with other suggested designs. O’Keefe said there is no plan to change the look of the department’s fleet. He said they simply wanted to know what officers were thinking.
You want to know what we're thinking Ted? Ask us. Or read the blog.

And once again, a bar fight leads to felony charges:
  • Upgraded felony charges were unveiled Monday for a Chicago Police officer charged in the severe beating of two patrons at a north suburban lounge in May.
On the bright side, CAPS is still dead.

"Bond for the upgraded charges was set at $5,000 on Monday by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Chambers. The judge ordered that Callahan surrender his firearms, avoid contact with the victims and witnesses and avoid drinking any "intoxicating alcohol," Conklin said."

I would bet my pension that if you made GC blow right now, he'd be in violation of the bond restrictions!

There was also a plan to put a liberal in the back of every squad that would constantly remind officers to be nice to the gangbangers and drug dealers. However, the plan had to be scraped when they couldn't find any liberals willing to go South of Belmont or West of Western Ave.

Fellas, leave the cars schemes(sp?) alone.

We do not have the shoes, the pants, hats,STAR(Mine was a family one) or the batons anymore. Do not get rid of our car colors.

Dont you see they are trying for a new image of the department? They are trying to distance us from the old school CPD.

Most of our old identity has been taken or is gone. Have some pride.

Less is more.

As I was once told by an old timer, "Snubbies with attitude kid."

Tahoes get 14 mpg. Thats when you're just cruising along. A jack rabbit start, such as responding to an in progress call would have to reduce that figure drastically. Not to mention the number of roll over type accidents these vehicles get into. So economically, and speaking from the standpoint of safety, its a pretty stupid idea. I'm guessing the additional 17 inches in height will make Jody feel taller.

Sun times has a article on page 8. Department will start a new evaluation program. A unk sgt is quoted, "people are not motivated". I wonder why? Evaluation system will increase morale? Cuello is quoted as saying arrests for minor crime are down but not for violent crime. She is absolutely clueless. Minor arrests lead to major arrests. Street stops are down. Officers are not aggressive and proactive which leads to less activity. And morale is fine. Cuello is beginning to sound like Monique. Of course, who wrote the article? callahan has been an idiot for years even against coppers he needs to get at least fired he has lots of clout but the boys time has finally run out he was always a tough guy moron! The cars who cares what they are painted as long as they run and shit works unlike all the junkers we are now driving that fleet cannot fix properly or at all! Now they will evaluate us great how about we evaluate all the bosses now that would be a reality concept! 5 more years then I am gone out of this corrupt city-state-county- and blago-daley and the 50 sheep-stroger-madigan express will continue mowing everyone down and no one will ever stop the express train!

Everyone should advocate that these POS should lose their job and go to jail, because they give the rest of the department a bad name.

According to a representative over at Ford motor company, fleet had 300 new Crown Vic's ordered to help replace the 480 that the CPD is short. That order was cancelled after Jody took over. If that order was allowed to stand those 300 cars would be on the ground right now at 52nd. and Wentworth. After those 300 were preped and assigned the CPD would only be 180 cars short. Now however according to Ted O'keefe we will not see the 160 Tahoes for six months. After those Tahoes are preped and assigned we will still be 320 cars short. This fact alone not to mention all the other disadvantages of the Tahoes illustrates what a poor decesion the Tahoes are.

Only work to fight violent crime that way the housing of the mope along with our court time costs the city. Do not write tickets which make the city money. That way no one can say you are not the real police and violent crime will go down. After all people do not like getting tickets. Havent you heard " why arent you busting real criminals"? well there you have it, bust real criminals earn overtime and court time and bring in notinig for king richie. People don't want tickets they want to see crime go down.

Most of you could be transfered to Digby Catfish House and Secutiry and not have to change a stitch of uniform..If theyre are any men left on this job, please hold on. Both vehicles are rated at 14 mpg in the city, and other departments have reported the Tahoes last between 50,000 to 100,000 more miles than the Crowns, O’Keefe said.
NOW YOU CAN HAVE A TAHOE WITH 200,000 TO 300,000 MILES ON IT, instead of a hunk o'shit Crown Vic with only 150,000!!! And still NO POOL CARS!!

Hey, idiot, how many of the original tahoes do we have? I don't know the number, but when they get totalled in typical suv crashes, they never make it to the touted 200k miles. We have new and old officers that can barely handle their personal cars, much less grasp the concepts required to take an suv thru an intersection safely! I want a number on how many suv's are left standing in 6 mos.

I am saddened and frustrated, as you are when an educated professional (police/lawyer/judge) that the publc trusts to bring "justice" is taken down. It's a pox on all of our houses.

About vehicles: a) If you can get that much more mileage out of a Tahoe I figure by the time it gets to 200k or so it's one stinky ride with dried boogers all over the interior (thats for chris and louie from the old 014.) So maybe it is better to turnover the fleet every-so-often. b) Lets think outside the box....time to give out 'take home cars' (not take them away) that being the high time rides that certain po's would love to baby and use on the street on their beat...wagons too...oh for the supe and his civilian cadre, the wagon is the vehicle that a po calls for right after the slow down to the '10-1'. As in: "slow em' down squad send me the f'n wagon." Oh and '10-1' is what the copper is scream'n into the radio to get help NOW...and no I don't think the supe or his minions have ever been there or done that, or have a clue what BEING the police is about...not numbers; not mottos; not core values; not management by computer. But taking care of each other. You want to manage by 'walking around' as they use to say...I'd give the new regime'rs a test...recite the names of the people on the job you now know...That's right, you guys have insulated yourselves so well from the unwashed herd that you only know, and want to know, the names of those gaming the new system. Get over your collective selves and reach out past 35th street, and city hall. You'll find out the smartest and most dedicated person on this job is wearing a blue shirt and working a beat car.

Thats the main point we all need to be looking at. I don't know where this higher standard for the police bullshit came from but these trumpt up charges would never be approved and we would be laughed at silly just for asking the dics/asa's to approve charges if it were average joe citizen as the offender. Sorry pal seen it happen too many times, the lazy det. arrives and continuously brow-beats the victim, treated more like the offender, telling them they will have a bunch of court dates etc. until the victim decides they no longer want to participate, the det. then walk out the door, having spent more time try to kill the case than to actually work it. I wil say this, it happened alot with the older dets. most of the younger ones would do their jobs.

Now go fuck yourself, but stay safe while doing so!

Key word is felony review. They don't do their job or won't do their job without trying it over the phone (judge and jury). We don't have experienced ASA's in that office (other than the lame-brain supervisors) and it is a total joke. Half the time you have to bring them up-to-date with 720.
