Preview of Next Year's Taste?

All kidding aside, fencing off the event and charging admission seems to do the trick:
  • Chicago police said Sunday that the three-day Lollapalooza music festival in Grant Park ended Sunday evening with relatively few arrests, mainly for drinking and disorderly conduct.

On Friday, six people were arrested. Another seven people were arrested Saturday, said Monique Bond, a police spokeswoman. Sunday's numbers were unavailable, Bond said.

She said the arrests were not unusual for such a large crowd and were relatively minor, mainly for drinking in a public way and disorderly conduct. Officials estimated that 225,000 people attended the festival over the three days.
But why on earth would anyone listen to us? Or cops in general? Or attendees who actually enjoyed themselves?

i worked down there tonight, (sunday) just a young crowd having a good time. most people said hello to me and who do i get from point a to point b. Nobody came up to me trying to record what i was doing on their cellphone. What a difference a "type" of crowd makes. white t-shirts were from time to time however we the police just watched over our flock,

The crowd, even at Kanye West, was 90% white. Intoxicated, high, whatever, a little annoying, but peaceful, orderly, and compliant. Everything went smooth. An enjoyable event. Jody was there, shaking hands with the troops and seemed friendly. Keating, on the other hand, didn't talk to anyone. He knows everyone hates him.

Imagine sundays numbers were a little higher Kanye was the closing act.

Wonder if those 13 arrests on the fist two days were ANOV's or Warning tickets? What say you Monique?

I was fortunate enough to work the nine inch nails side of the park and not the Kanye West side. everybody was orderly and friendly and I had at least 15 people. if not more, thank me for my service. I don't know how the other side of the event was. Charging $80 for the event helped keep alot of criminals/ gangbangers away.

Next year's Taste of Chicago will have a fence. OF course, the controlled media will report that the fence will be used for crowd control. However, it will not be used for crowd control.
It'll be used for animal control.

Can we get a demographic breakdown of who attended each fest/show? Along with a breakdown of who got arrested?

Or would that be racist?

Lets see, you have a free festival (taste) where all hell breaks loose each and every year, and you have a fenced-off festival that charges with little to no problems... hmmm. Perhaps people that work and pay for things know how to behave? Don' t mistake this as a racial jab... same thing happened a few years back for the african art festival and festival of lifel in washington park. Used to be a loooong day, but now they have a fence and a cover charge and very few problems....

Only if there turns out to be a disproportionate, to population demographic, number of citizens getting arrested, regardless of how accurate the numbers are and how valid the arrests.

Chalkie's unofficial sidekicks are the hearty souls who work for the M.E.

Their uniforms are disposable.

As are Chalkie's work products.

Everyone thought that hell would break loose with Kanye West closing. Nothing happened perhaps it was the cover charge. It just seemed sorta racist! Same as we say "guns don't kill people, bad people kill people." Same could be said of Rap or any kind of music. In general, assholes kill. By the way, any PO's that worked Sat. can let us know what happened with the anti police shit from Rage Against the Machine. Surprised no one here mentioned it. Jim Derogatis from the SunTimes did a whole article on how they were getting the crowd amped up with some anti police shit. Any info?

You have to forgive them for their generalized misplaced feelings about the police. Understand that a lot of the anti-establishment types, whether 2nd amendment types or radical hippies, are more generally against the system. The war on drugs, government lies, etc.

I'm outta there, and in a place where people are often a little surprised to hear stories of police having normal private lives. Police tend to get stereotyped as functionaries who implement the will of government without regard to right or wrong.

In Chicago right now, that's sorta a funny misplaced stereotype. Anyway, don't take it personally, its directed more at the "system" than at you or any other badge personally.

You ain't so bright. A lot of people blame law enforcement for, oh, let's see:

Waco
Ruby Ridge
Elian Gonzalez
Burge
9/11
Rampart
Amadou
Ashcroft

Indeed, many law enforcement types blame law enforcement for one or more of these or other incidents or patterns.

Do you need a binky to help you fall asleep, or are you thick skinned enough to just do your best and try to do things right?

Because if you get an ulcer taking personal everything blamed on law enforcement, you ain't long for this world son.

And in Chicago right now, it is pretty ironic to see a generic association being made between the police and the "machine", when the police are pretty much on strike against the machine.

Unbunch your panties and man up. Not everybody will like you, and particularly not when you are walking around looking for reasons to feel insulted.

oh, please. If the taste decides to put up a fence and charge admission - ya know the reverends and other groups are going to get tons of free tickets from the city.

That means that everyone who paid for a ticket is going to have to put up with the crappy people that the free tickets bring in.
