Can We Expand on This?
Straight A's can translate into earnings of $4,000 and straight Cs can yield kids $1,600 under a new program debuting this year in 20 Chicago public high schools.
Every five-week reporting period, freshmen and sophomores can earn $50 for each A, $35 for each B and $20 for each C in five subjects: English, math, science, social science and physical education.
But kids will only get half their earnings upfront. They have to graduate to receive the other half.
We'd say that this money is safer than if it was stored in Fort Knox. But then we got to thinking - why limit this program? Why not expand it?
- Police Officers find a way to balance the high cost of living associated with living in Chicago and at the same time, help close a $400 million budget deficit.
- Parking ticket bounties - for every ticket officers write, they get 10% of the total fine in quarterly bonuses.
- Mover bounties - same as above. 10% of any impound fees generated also.
- Arrests - $1,000 for a murderer, $750 for armed robbers, $500 for burglars, $100 for domestics. Dope pinches, SUB, DOPW and anything gathered during a sting are a dime a dozen.
This could be BIG!

So a public school system that is cash strapped and in the financial hole is now offering bribe money for good grades.
Now I know this is the "City That Works" and cash kickbacks and bribes made this town but what are they thinking.
So many of our hard working Chicago residents (many children of our police officers and firefighters) send their children to private schools at a great expense. Many of their neighborhood schools would be fine schools if it was attended by the local children. But instead they bus in ghetto gang members, the inner city trouble makers and the uncontrollable students.
Now as a slap in the face to many white students who do attend their local high schools, they will not be included in a cash for grades bribe program.
The city loves to use the phrase "selected schools". Sound familiar? The same phrase used by Rev. Meeks when asking for more educational money.
"Selected Schools" means one thing, minority schools or schools with an almost all black and Hispanic enrollment.
To accept this is to roll the clock back like it is 1955 but this time the whites are the oppressed.
If you have a child in school or not, please call your alderman and also the CPS executive board and express your opinion against this racially discriminatory government program.

Seems like a stupid idea, but with the amount of money being spent on each student maybe this is a good motivator to keep the kids educated. Not that much money to keep junior studying instead of gangbanging, and then he has a chance to better himself in the future. It would be better if we put more money into the schools, but maybe this will motivate the kids since parents don't do that job either. Anything to educate these dum dumbs.

Heard of this B.S. coming from the CPS. I'm a lucky to be retired from the CPD guy who moved out on my last day several years ago. I now live in Winnebago county near the Wisc. border. My daughter went to the local high shcool and my wife has worked there as a hall monitor for 12 yrs. No tuition, no junk to sell, no volunteer hrs, no extra money in the basket on Sunday, nothing except for a small book fee etc. When we signed our girl up for school the total fee was...including a year book, athletic fee, and a $40.00 lunch account, $125.00. Jackpot!!!
In this school there is a program in which students who maintain above average grades and don't miss ANY school days when in this program,are then eligible to receive incentives for their performance in school. They might get a small bag of candy, a gift cert. to the local McD's or DQ, a better parking spot in the school lot, something like that. Believe it or not many of the parents of the kids in this program think that awarding prizes for good school performance is wrong. About 95% of the kids graduate, about 75% of them go on to college. What gives??? Umm, errr, ummm, forget it. Hey, let's send some cash out this way for good kids, good grades, and good schools.

But if you drive a politician you already get a huge "bonus" D-3 pay plus all the overtime, and these guys still work specail taking from the common hard working patrolmen! Plus another bonus 2 on 3 off schedule NICE! How about it FOP this would be a great pilot program for the troops, what an incentive to work, hell i will even do like the D-3 drivers and pick up the bosses cleaning, and shine his shoes!

110 or 100 but when crook county asses their fines it comes about to 170 ( court recorder, filing and etc). But if you plea guilty and and get supervision the judge will give you a lower fine of the 110 maybe 60 but you still get hammerred on the crook county imposed fines. They are not giving the city their share of the fines whic i just laugh at every time i go to Traffic ct.
And what happens when little Tyrone still comes home with D's and F's? OOOOOOO......that teach, she be racist!
Can you imagine, a CPS student building up all of that money in the bank for good grades or even honor roll grades and then getting shot.
Who gets all of that money? I know the Mayors general fund.

Let's make sure we have the facts before we shoot down the plan:
1) the program is not funded by taxpayers, it is not a Government program; its funded by private sources.
2) They held a lottery for schools to be eligible for the program, only 68 high schools applied and 20were selected.
3) "White" students used to populate some of these schools (Hubbard, Kelvyn Park, Kennedy, Senn...) and are eligble to transfer to these schools (talk to Meeks).
Now. What a dumbass idea. This does nothing but further the "Welfare Mentality" that prevails in some of these neighborhoods. Providing Academic Scholarships and grants to high achievers is fine, incentive enough. What happens when the money's gone? Is the incentive to success gone? I heard in an interview one of the teachers saying that some of their kids don't come to school somedays because they have to work, and that this would alleviate the need for the part-time job. B.S. And paying money for a "C", who do they think they are, the City of Chicago?

What this does is undermine any evaluation system of the quality of teachiing or school management. It will make the teachers look better, because they will be able to motivare with cash, rather than to motivate for intellectual achievement.Sudents will do enough to get a grade, no more, and the grades will be inflated. The students will not take risks, which is part of learning. Students will get angry if the teachers don't reward them. Athletes will expect all A's $$$ or they won't cooperate/ The evaluation numbers will be skewed. In the end, these students will be poorly prepared when they enter post graduate competitve learning environments and have to compete with students from more legitimate, more competitive schools/ Your kid will be a LOSER!!!

This bribery has gone too far. They think all white middle class kids get paid cash by their parents if they bring home good grades, which is not true. I expect my kid to study, get good grades. If you going to have a program within the city's public schools it is totally unfair that only certain students get it no matter who is paying for it.
If an outside group gave the city money for helping pay gas or electric bills, would it be fair to only allow certain people from certain neighborhoods get it? NO NO NO!
If your going to say there isn't enough money for everybody in the CPS H.S.'s, then the city should either refuse the money or lower the amount given for certain grades so there is enough for everybody.

I heard that each one of the Daley's -Shortshanks - Maggie - Nora - Patrick all recieved free rides to O'Hare to go to Denver to see the Messiah nominated. All this while Shortshanks blames Blago for the free rides for seniors. Combined IQ of 10 between the two so called leaders.
D-3 pay to be a cabdriver- Not bad. Of course that's not all of it. The bodyguard detail is headed up by Sergeant as Deputy Chief Keating who oversees PO as Commander Roti (no relation to Fred - Yeah Right0 and Shaky Jake Carlo.

As funding has dried up, schools have had to become more reliant on outside sources to supplement their programs. There are many different grants and endowments that either partially or entirely fund a variety of programs in the CPS. Even though the CPS has some oversight on the funds, each school has the ability to apply for these funds and grants individually. If the LSC's or Administrators have the ability and means to apply for them (which usually involves writing very detailed proposals), there are funds for whatever ingenious or ridiculous programs schools choose to undertake. So yes, Edgebrook, or Edison Park or Northside College Prep have the means at their disposal to apply for and receive funds to supplement their budgets. Many of those schools have separate fundraising parent organizations to bring even more funds. Fairness has nothing to do with it; its how you play the game.
