Calumet Area detectives are on the scene Monday afternoon after a city Department of Revenue employee was shot while booting a car on the South Side.
The shooting occurred on the 8400 block of South Dante Avenue on Monday morning, according to a Calumet Area lieutenant, who said they are on the scene as of 12:15 p.m.
A "booter" was shot while booting a vehicle, Department of Revenue Director Bea Reyna-Hickey said, directing further inquires to police.
As the City squeezes harder and harder for revenue, we figure this call is going to pop up a lot more.

Just the start of the race! The city keeps taking from the people that attempt to pay their bills. Highest taxes in the nation,highest gas prices,highest city sticker fees, higher house taxes! Now they want to charge for garbage pick-up, more property taxes, more water and sewer fees! Then daley and the 50 assholes just give it all away via fake lawsuits (that eddie burkes finance committee never fights unless it is a copper with a legit IOD mri), the illegals always getting welcomed with all the free shit! 1 more year then fuck shitcago! KMA all the way!

i handle a shooting back in 2002. where the boot man was sitting in his city vehicle after booting a vehicle on 72nd & yale. the purp walk up to the driver window & shot the city worker in the thigh. this incident wasn't televised, no news, but now we are in a financial crunch, everything is upgraded. let the po's get time & half, make it special employment and ride with these unarmed city workers. if the city is making money we should also!

FYI:
I had a candid conversation with one of those city employees that writes parking tickets. The person was using a bicycle. The "AutoCite" device used to write parkers is also equipped to record audio and/or video.
In recent months, they have been told to write up petty bullshit (no front license plate, etc.). The employee also said that it is obvious that Daley wants them to go to extremes to collect revenue.
They do target neighborhoods where the parkers tend to pay the fines versus high concentration "scofflaw" areas on the West and South Sides.

I witnessed the Department of Revenue buffoons writing parkers at 5 minutes till for street cleaning. That is fraud, what if the guy comes out and moves his car before then?
This asshole Mayor will do anything to get the Olympics. I don't know about you guys but I am a policeman not a revenue machine. Parkers and movers were never my thing and now they will NEVER be my thing.

The booters are taking private property. It is a taking and against the constitution. If someone takes your property you have a right to defend yourself.
You can get 3 tickets in the mail and not know about it because of the cameras, even if there is a defense, and they can try to take your car. This is crazy and onnerous. This hurts poor people the most and those mostly Blacks and Hispanics in areas with the flashing blue lights that give a lot of tickets for rolling stops or turn on red and stupid things like going through a yellow light.
The parking tickets, building inspectors, cameras, tow trucks, shake down extortionist precinct captains and city workers make this city toooo expensive and too onerous and that just includes regular taxes, fees and extra expenses.
Tow truck drivers and booters are low scum. I realize they need a job and have families but they are hurting people for a living. Many times the cameras are wrong. The ticket writers are over aggressive and not in time. There are many errors in this system. Most importantly it is too expensive to park downtown or in certain neighborhoods and there is not enough street parking, it is banned on certain days and certain times, and now a quarter will only buy you 10 to 15 minutes and you can only put in so many at a time.
I have paid tickets and a year later I get the same ticket saying I did not pay and have to find the check and write a letter.
This is worse than the mob, the Daley OC is trying to take blood from a rock.
It is NOT right to shoot someone. Taking a human life is a crime and sin. However, I think you will see more and more booters getting shot because of the 3 ticket rule.
You don't take a man's car. 3 tickets is too little and extortion.
You cannot fight the tickets in the City Superior street kangaroo court.
Maybe if some more booters got shot they would understand how hard the economy is and you can't be extortionists."
