Police Shooting - 007

And the offender jumped out of the car armed with...
  • A RIFLE
Gee, who'd have thought a rifle would have appeared on the streets of Chicago?

Oh yeah, that would be SCC, most of our readers, and anyone with half a fucking brain.

Cops OK, bad guy critical, altar boy photos being fed to the media as we speak.

UPDATE: Bad guy dead, weapon recovered. Someone is claiming it wasn't a rifle. Some other anti-police asshat is claiming since 007 handled it with pistols, no one ever needs rifles again.

UPDATE II: Shots fired at/by the police in 011?

Media likes to show victims as "alter boys", even if they were selling crack and tar on streets.

So let's see this from "media" view:
* Guns are bad - ban guns - already happened in Chicago
* Police are criminals with trigger-happy fingers - ban police - ??

Media wants to create the real wild west. They will take a french poodle and make a dangerous rottweiler out of it, because it has teeth.

As usual, a bunch of alleged witnesses claiming the same ole thing........Da Polices shot da wrong boy......day shoot him in da back and he ain't have no gun! Once again, that's probably why the old timers always said....."Kid, take your time, I only have a couple of years until I retire!" They knew it wasn't worth it because as much as those pastors cry, "They be killin our childrens", obviously they only care until the police shoot one of theirs after he had the audacity to point a rifle at them. This is the most thankless job in the world.....damned if you do and damned if you don't. Let them police themselves and everyone should go work on the north side !

Rifles in a squad car are a good Idea......
Rifles unloaded and locked in a trunk will get someone KILLED. Why would anyone buy off on an rifle locked in a trunk is beyound me. We see it time and time again........ man w a gun call and the cars pull right up to the scene....... now think about what would happen if the P.O. had to go to the trunk, open it, remove the rifle, remove the flag safety insert a magazine and charge the weapon???? 99% of the time no problem 1 % on a real call and an active shooter........... you have a dead P.O.

O.T. Why is it that the Chicago Police Memorial doesn't list its officers or board such as all other Memorial Foundations? The only person listed is Honorary Chairman Richard Daley. Is PC hiding behind Daley? And why is his girlfriend M.H. working for the Memorial? Another salary we are paying. Geesh. P.C. has hired all his friends to work on our dime, just like he did when he was on this job. This is just too much. Daley should ask for an accounting of an organization that is pimping his name. I'm pretty disgusted by it all.

Here's the Iowa and Hamlin story from the compilation of news sites "Breaking News"

Federal agents and Chicago police on Tuesday cordoned off a house on the West Side where they captured a fugitive wanted in an Atlanta murder, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Members of the Marshals' Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force were working on an Atlanta murder warrant for Shakir Cole when they spotted him an a car and chased him to a house near the intersection of Chicago and Hamlin Avenues, said Geoff Shank, Chief Inspector of the task force.

After being barricaded in the house, Cole was in custody as of about 8:30 p.m. Agents already had a suspected accomplice in custody, Shank said. Additional details on the arrests were not immediately available.

Cole is wanted in a 2006 murder in Atlanta, and marshals tracked him to Chicago recently.

As far as the M$ goes, after doing research, I have no desire to carry it. They are not dependable unless cleaned and lubed on an almost daily basis. I can almost bet my future retirement earnings with no regrets that no one will be cleaning these rifles with any regularity. Even the front line trops want nothing to do with them. This is interesting reading:
http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/the-usas-m4-carbine-controversy-03289/
Also the rounds have a tendency to shatter on impact and don't penetrate that deeply. I think I will wait until another choice is available. I realize that with CPD that might be a while but for now Iwill rely on my trusty sidearm.

With new policy at IPRA and at News Affairs there is NO public word on any of these shootings forthcoming so the only story being told publicly is the assholes or whatever lying dogs get in front of a camera.

In the name of IPRA the assholes are winning the war of the media.
They can talk publicly any time they want. We cannot.

Maybe the patrol shotgun is the ticket. Full stock, no pistol grip , you need to shoulder it to hit the target. Use the OO buckshot reduced recoil 9 ball load. (The standard 12 ball load would recoil in excess.) Anyone can shoot it. Color code the rounds, red for buckshot and green for slugs. Look at LAPD, they have the short barrel Remington 870. Works great in the city of angels, why not here ? Law enforcement agancy is allowed to have less than 18" barrel, very handy in the patrol car . Failing that, why not ramp up your pistol craft...get new magazines if you need them. Replace those dead night sights, and go to the range a little more. Make the best of that sidearm, and most of all stay safe.

I wasn't aware that Chicago is in a desert environment. The AR-type rifles are plenty reliable outside of the sandpit. They need to be cleaned and maintained after they are fired, but they won't fall apart riding around in your cars.

I prefer the LRWC M6A2, but that's just me.

I miss chicago, but atleast my PD now allows us to carry M4s in the vehicle...they have a program where officers are allowed to purchase their own M4 (they are also available for check in/out from supply) and the department installed electronic side-saddle M4/870 racks in all cars. Also officers are allowed to have their own personal combat "kit" in the vehicle (I use a plate carrier, just in case) with extra ammo for 223 and handguns. We're west of chicago, but more and more goes down because of shitheads moving out of there. Maybe your FOP should bring up personal purchase as a means of getting these much needed tools into your hands? Its a bit pricey, but I considered how much my life was worth if I were to ever need it...far more than the 2500 I spent. Be safe out there, and watch your backs, because no one else is out there for us.

Off topic, but related. The Cook County State's Attorney has announced that they will NOT file any criminal charges against the officers involved in a fatal police shooting in 2005 near 27th and Kedzie. They said an expert witness examined the evidence, and backed up the officers version of how tire marks were left on one of the officers pants. Numerous officers testified before the grand jury and all told the same story. A forensic expert at the Cook County morgue told the state that the bullet hole in the offenders back was most likely a ricochet, backing up the story of the officer who said he fired from the front of the car. Scumbag civil attorney Terry Ekl said the state caved under pressure from the city, and that it is the worst case of police misconduct he has seen in thirty years. He says his tire expert, who was paid for his opinion by Ekl, is right. To review; the offender was here illegally, driving drunk, driving without proper plates, driving without insurance, driving without a license, caused several accidents, fled from marked police cars, and tried to run over an officer. May Terry Ekl burn in hell some day. Chalk one up for the good guys.

According to Mr.Doahue he stated that Hillard is in the door with the new superintendent trying to push guess what? Blue tooth cameras on your person, which will record everything. He said that it will be just like your bluetooth on your ear and will record you and everything you do. Also it has audio which will record up to 30 hours. Also I wanted to let people know that another good guy Greg Bella stated that we "DO NOT NEED TO GIVE OUR DNA TO ANYONE!!!!!" and if this does happen call the FOP and they will send out a lawyer. So please dont take the test.

Thats the point. How well are the inside of the cars taken care of everyday? What about radios? Or any other thing that is issued? Who will be responsible for cleaning and caring for the weapons? I would go along with it if we were allowed to own the weapon or have it issued to individuals and then it was on us to take care of it. I just have a problem having that variable being out of my hands. Sure I could break the weapon down at every start of the tour but how often do you have that luxury to examine every single piece of equipment that you will use during the tour and how long will it take?

Not sandy but it sure is dirty. You would not believe some of the things you will find in a squad car. In the olden days, shotguns used to get mounted on the dash. More often than not, the barrel got used as a ashtray and garbage can. This made squad cars a target for getting broken into and the shotguns were getting stolen. Then they were mounted in the trunks. That defeated the purpose of having them available in the cars for quick deployment. How many remember the old box Crown Vics that had trunk alarms?

AT LAST! This is, by far, one of the most intelligent posts I have ever read here regarding heavy weapons carry by CPD Officers.
Obviously, not everyone is going to carry the big guns. Some of you are just too out of shape to do the power test. Either get in shape, or deal with it and start doing some serious practice with whatever your sidearm of choice is.
Protective cover and shot placement win gun battles...and a little prayer. God bless all, and stay safe! I STILL LOVE THIS JOB!

And, your words are wise. Next time in HQ, look for Officer Tucker's star in the display case. He was a hero killed in the line of duty in the late 60's. His automatic jammed for an unknown reason and the bank robber had enough time to shoot and kill Officer Tucker before Officer Tucker could clear his firearm.

Do not allow this hero's death to have been in vain. Check your automatics regularly. Put the odds in your favor. Any mechanical device can fail, but regular attention and maintenance can reduce the risk. Make sure the magazine (clip) spring and the recoil rod spring are not fatigued, make sure the clip does not have ear damage, and make sure your firearm is clean. A fatigued spring(s), a damaged clip, or grime and dirt, can all cause a firearm to fail, and cause you to fail at saving your life and the lives of others.

As said in the previous post, change the springs and clip at least every 5 years, or sooner as needed.

And remember, whenever a clip is ejected and it hits another object or the ground, it has the possibility of sustaining damage.

Be wise, Stay safe.

The shots fired at/by the police in 011... was anyone there? How long did it take SWAT to show up once it was made a 'job'? Any word on how it went down and the final outcome?

You obviously don't work for the CPD. They are not ours to maintain. They will be signed out at the beginning of the tour 3 times a day. How many cleaning kits are going to be provided to accomplish this? Will we be allowed down time before hitting the streets to make sure that they are properly cleaned and lubed? Who is going to provide records showing that the proper cleaning has been done? How do we know what was done to the weapon on the shift prior to it being issued to us? If I am going to trust my life on a weapon, I damn well want to know that it is in perfect working order but for the CPD, that is a fantasy. The shotguns mounted in the station have never been cleaned or maintained ever as far as a I know. I'm worried that the same will happen to the M4's.

Yes, I do. The post stated that, "They are not dependable unless cleaned and lubed on an almost daily basis. I can almost bet my future retirement earnings with no regrets that no one will be cleaning these rifles with any regularity. Even the front line trops want nothing to do with them."

Not true. I carried one in the desert and maintained it. They work just fine.

"You obviously don't work for the CPD."

Yes, I do. And I stand by what I said. I was responding to the claim that the weapon system was somehow flawed and unpopular with the troops. It's not. I made no claim as to how or by whom the weapon would be maintained.

"I think I will wait until another choice is available."

If you think waiting for a weapon that you can use dirty will come along, keep waiting.

It's hard to believe that the Keesing Bandit didn't jump all over this one.
