Kass On Mette

John Kass writes what may be the final chapter in the Mette saga:
  • Mike Mette, the wrongfully convicted Chicago cop released from an Iowa prison Wednesday, sat in the backyard of a family friend, finally free.

  • He wanted to say something to you, the readers of the Tribune, for sending him all those letters and cards, for not forgetting him when he waited on his appeal of his 5-year prison sentence.

"The Tribune readers who wrote to me, people wrote me who I didn't know—that worked the best for me," Mike said. "I can't tell you what it meant. Of course my family loves me, and I got support from them. But I'd get all these letters and cards from strangers.
Maybe one more chapter?
  • And now Mike Mette wants to go to law school.

"I've been thinking about it and thinking about it, going to law school," he said. "I think I'd make a good lawyer. I've been on both sides of it. I think I'd bring a perspective to the law that most people don't have. I've been there."
Take your time, enjoy the family. Again, welcome home.

Don't go to law school Mike. Besides, if your parents were married, you don't qualify.

Mike, I'd rather be known as an ex-con than a lawyer.

Mike
Go to law school, then open an office here and sue the city on behalf of your fellow officers for;
1)negligence in hiring
2)negligence in retention of employment
3)negligence in promotion

You would be rolling in the dough, and doing the job our union won't do!

The Department has ten million lawyers in its ranks because these cop-lawyers can't earn a living as lawyers. Tell us about it, SCC.

John Kass should receive an recognition award, from both the police department and journalism profession, for the work he did in bringing this matter to life.
I consider him an honorary department member, which is no small feat as I hate and avoid most of the media.
Thank you again, Mr Kass, for all of what you've done. If anybody has an email/phone number for Mr Kass please post it so we can convey our thanks.
I trust his judgment more so than I do the idiot gold star exempts that run this department.

Spoken like a true Assclown. All Lawyers are scum until the time comes YOU need one. Then no level of Legal Representation would be good enough to handle your case.

Good to see the Nightmare is over for you Mike,I wish you nothing but Peace& prosperity in all your endeavours.

Welcome home Mike. Get back on the job and do the best for yourself-if becoming a lawyer is what you want, then go for it. You already have the publicity and its for your advantage. Once again, welcome home brother in blue.

Mike, good luck on your quest to go to law school. Perhaps you can get a job as a prosecutor and specialize in Iowa cases.

Seriously, get back to work and put that shit behind you. I hope you got to read Moby Dick, if not inside then read it now.

Correction, Fumducker. He would be rolling in debt. Clearly you have never heard of the Tort Immunity Act. You cannot sue the City for negligence. That is all.

For sure. Law firms are always looking for cop-lawyers that went to second rate law schools and got famous by making an exceptionally poor choice to attend a college kegger at 4:00 while employer as an officer.

IT IS A MEASURE OF US AS THE POLICE THAT WE DO NOT HAVE A PARTY AT FOP WHEN AN OFFICER DOES SOMETHING EXCEPTIONAL, YET WE HAVE THREE PARTIES AT FOP FOR AN OFFICER THAT DID NOTHING EXCEPTIONAL, EXCEPT FOR HAVING EXCEPTIONALLY BAD LUCK.

Went to the "party" today. It's official. No one likes Mike Mette with the exception of his Dad and Danny Herbert. Lots and lots of leftover beer at the FOP monday. Stop by and grab a case. SCC, are we officially done with this Mette thing? Please say yes.

If you are done with this "Mette thing", why did you go to the party? I was there and so were many others who were there to support Mike and to welcome him home.

You have no idea what you are talking about, no one likes Mike, except his dad, and so on, very interesting that you went to the party. You must just be one of the fake friends, looking to get some attention. You also might want to get your facts straight, only 2 events were held at the FOP and one was a fundraiser.

Thank you, Dan Herbert and the FOP members for the very nice get together on Sunday. Mike's family would also like to thank all who came to welcome Mike home. It meant a great deal to our family.
