Obviously, these high school basketball games are a magnet for gangs and gunfire, and the fun doesn't stop at the game - it carries over into the weeks following. Witness Friday night:
- At least five people were wounded tonight, apparently when gunmen opened fire from inside a truck outside Dunbar High School on Chicago's South Side.
Three people in critical-to-serious condition and two people in serious-to-fair condition were taken to area hospitals, said Fire Department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez.
Marcel Bright, Stroger Hospital spokesman, said a 15-year-old boy from the scene was being treated in serious but stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

SCC, Just a quick observation--Does any of this animal like behavior happen at High Schools like Br. Rice, Marist, St Rita, Mt. Carmel or St. Laurence?? Oh didn't think so. Crane, Tilden, and most other CPS schools make me sick and the inmates are running the asylums. But, having said that, some of us need to get down off our high horses a little bit because I had to leave a police department function a couple of years ago for this very same reason. I took my son and nephew to the police vs fire boxing match, thinking that would be nice safe entertainment for them, and everyone sitting around us was so drunk it was ridiculous. Then, a fight broke out between a fireman and a police officer right above us and they came very close to falling on my son and knocking him out of his seat as they went tumbling down the steps in between the bleachers, so we left.

Duncan did nothing to improve our schools. The improvements (few as they are) were all managed by cooking the books. Emma Arnold was walking to her Wicker Park home after dinner with a friend Tuesday night when she suddenly found herself the victim of a prank-turned-crime.
"I heard a loud pop, and my back hurt," said Arnold, 31, who was hit by a sharpened lead pellet from an air-powered pellet gun. "It was a surreal moment. I knew I'd been shot, but I didn't know exactly by what kind of gun."
The pellet lodged near her spine, requiring her hospitalization.
Authorities said Arnold and a second victim were seriously injured in a shooting rampage Tuesday night by two teenage cousins armed with an air rifle. Michael Bobek, 19, of Park Ridge and Daniel Kolasa, 17, of Chicago spent a half-hour driving around the Near Northwest Side shooting at people from the back of Bobek's van for "harmless fun," a prosecutor said.
The two were arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery with a weapon. A Cook County judge set bail Thursday at $400,000 for Kolasa and $300,000 for Bobek.

back in the 90's, our tact sgts in 21 knew when the games were and made sure we knew. It is called being proactive not reactive...that's what happens when you have a micromanager in charge, who obviously can't remember every little detail. Micromanagers make you lazy, you get to the point where you expect them to do everything for you. Of course if you try to become proactive in the Doty regime, you get slapped down, so your forced to play along just to get along.

I work in A/3 but I remember Meeler 017 from 013 and he was a BIG advocate of us working police on the watch bak in the day at the "WOOD". We didn't need missions then to prove our worth in 013 the numbers were there when the gangs roved the streets and that got Meeler promoted to Captain!

An absolute fact was that Mealers midnight crew in 013 had some of the best arrest activity in Area Four. Guns, robberies, auto theft and more guns-with heads, not suspicious "turn-ins". Any eight or nine guys together from that watch were better and worked harder, consistently, than Lt. Dunks laughingstock tact team, save a few.
