First Snow, Then Cold

  • By Saturday afternoon, 12 inches of snow fell at O'Hare Airport, causing flight delays and traffic headaches, city officials said.

The snow that started Friday morning continued into Saturday and the city’s Department of Streets and Sanitation said 12 inches had fallen at O'Hare and almost 8 inches fell at Midway.

Streets are actually decent and passable. That doesn't excuse the past December we just went through and the sorry state of water main repairs, but we'll give a little credit tonight.

Now let's see how the deep freeze that's on the way affects the streets.

Off subject but important. Please do not open any text messages from an unrecognized sender. I mistakenly opened one and instantly I was subscribed to something. I quickly went on their website and unsubscribed but I thing its appalling that they can subscribe you to something just by opening the text message sent to you. SCC please let your readers know so they don't do something stupid like I did. I still have to review my cell phone account to make sure I wasn't charged anything.

SCC,

Fair you are, the boys in S&S did a great job with 12 inches of snow.

December was a disaster, but this weekend is one of the things that makes Chicago,"The City That WORKS".

We still have the best food, police, fire and garbage services.

On the snowy Friday afternoon. I saw a crew filling potholes on Chicago Avenue on the westside..no plows were to be seen,, but the potholes were being filled..Hmmm wonder if they are still filled or if that was a waste of tax payers money?? nothing like filling potholes during a snow PRIOR to a plow coming by,,real smart

The streets were horrible yesterday and that all started the night before when it started snowing. Squad car got stuck on a job and I didn't even pull all the way into a parking spot. I had to be pushed out by a few of the "citizens". I thanked them and told them that their block was getting a pass and that I would not be coming down their street for the rest of the day. How Embarrassing! You couldn't go down side streets at all without sliding all over. I parked the squad in the middle of the street after that. Oh well if people couldn't get through. Someone actually called the police on another squad that was parked in the middle of the street.

Driving a car that is not made for the Chicago winters. Those cars are SHIT!

Waved to the 3 plow trucks I saw during a 24 hour period. They must have been glad to be back to work.

For you geniuses who think the 10 hour schedule is a bad deal. Working the crap 6 day schedule we have now, you would have to BURN 416 HOURS COMP-TIME to equal the time off you get in a 10 hour schedule. Plus the money you save on gas, the less wear and tear on you vehicle, the 15 hours comp earned on a holiday, p-days worth 10 hours. Get a clue....

I wish S&S would NEVER come down my street. I live in an area where everybody has a side drive. NOBODY parks on the street. S&S comes down the street, usually 2 or three times, always right down the center which makes a ridges on each side of the street. They completely screwup the street. If they knew what they were doing, they could easily go to the curb and plow on each side of the street. Now I've got three feet of snow in front of my driveway with a path down the center of the street.

I actually got a job offer with them before I started here. Thought the city would be too liberal for me though (kicking myself now). Anyway most of the cost of living indexes/calculators had us a little higher. This was before our tax rate went up to 10.25. Plus they don't have to live in the city and you can get a nice house in the suburbs there. Even if their cost of living is the same they are making 30K more a year.

I thought Daley was going plow my street, Well, that didn't happen so I'll pay my water bill just a little bit later, and he will not get my vote in 2010.

It's less about him not getting your vote and more about which single candidate will get your vote, and the votes of more citizens than the stuttering prick gets.

At least global warming has nothing to do with this extreme weather. On Jan. 8th, it was only 61 degrees in Calgary (27 degree average high) and a balmy 20 degrees in Chicago (31 degree average high). Most be SCC's sun spots or my hemorrhoids acting up again.

Before it passed, he said REPEATEDLY that he would not sign it. It has enough votes that, if he vetos it, it would still pass on an override.

He is not going to sign it or veto it, so it will automatically pass into law in February (sorry, can't recall the date, but the pension board can tell you).

If you're lucky enough to have portable time, you should already be looking into lining up your documentation and having long talks with the pension board people.
