Again, if you are the 50 year old Sgt of a team that has a bum knee and is unable to complete the power test, according to J pussy he's not allowed to carry the rifle and thereby not allowed to protect himself nor the citizens by carrying a rifle. Fuck you Weiss.

Rifles have been delivered to 025, 015 and other districts. This will continue until all dists have them. Training has not been suspended. Training continues even in winter months.

Trunk locks take 5 hours for wiring so they are being installed at the rate of one a day.

They were delivered to 003 about a week ago. Last I checked there were no magazines with them though. they are locked up in the radio room right next to the shotguns and will probably get about the same usage.

Well, whoop de fuckin' do.

That crooked cocksucker finally conceded flintlock muskets with black powder. Not a Heckler and Koch MP5 in our "arsenal" except maybe for his platoon of suckhole bodyguards.

Shortshanks will procrastinate 'til we get our version of the North Hollywood bank robbery shootout or worse. At least, LAPD had nearby gun stores where they could commandeer assault rifles with ammo.

They should go to army surplus and get a pair of M1A1 Abrams tanks for 007 and 011. No camouflage needed. Just paint 'em blue and white. Don't forget to slap on a pair of "CAPS" stickers, That despicable, thieving mayor-for-life will get the big grabber before he gets his cell at Terre Haute.

Let's pray that "the Messiah" finds a spot in D.C. for that lying, salad tossing pussy J-Fed.

OK got to love it. The Carbines are being delivered to all the districts. All the classes are on-line to sign up for. The weeklong classes are slim do to snow, cold, the fact that we shoot outside (kind of hard to train in 9*) and all the holidays we have in the first 3 months of the year. The POWER tests are going strong so that when the weather breaks there will be a surplus of students. Officers are buying and registering their own personal weapons. The trunk locks are at the Area Garages and yes 1000 lock will take some time to be installed and you cannot believe this is going to happen LOL!!!!!!!

FYI the superintendent did meet with the left pink liberal groups more then once and told them that the Offices need and are going to be carrying the carbines. Bash him all you want and at times I agree with you, But he has it right this time! He even has the classes open to the patrol division first. Not the units. When have you ever seen that happen?

Rifles delivered in A2. No trunk locks. Another episode of J-Fed disappointing the troops. Rifles on the street ain't gonna happen. Da Mayo won't let it happen. Two days after 9/11 he ordered swat out of the airport,or to a less visible location. He will not let average cops on the street have them.

Why bother. They will never let you carry them or god forbid use one on the street. They will just gather dust like the shotguns.

I know for a fact that Leo Kwon Doh Schmitz has a rifle, and has a trunk lock.

He was produly showing it off to some poeple in the Credit Unit parking lot the other day.

He was like a proud father, just beaming at his little toy. The one he WILL NEVER use, but he sure feels cool having it.

They also have a rifle rack and rifles in 5th District/Area 2.

Sadly, only L.E.O. has the trunk lock.

I'll be back from military leave in a few months. Does this mean I will no longer be qualified to carry the same rifle I've been carrying for the last 18 months?
Or on my previous deployment or the 15 years I've been in the military (7 active) for that matter.

SO, After the GPS drains your battery, can you still get the gun out? If so, why so much wiring? If not, what are we doing????

For all you Rambos out there please remember that YOU are responsible for where that round flies and on an M4 they can fly pretty far. Not knocking anybody's shooting skill but how many people will handle the same rifle? How many times will somebody bang it into something or drop it? If those sights get moved even slightly it can put your shot quite a ways off from target. Sorry but give me the good old Remington 870.

Good. Now maybe we can shoot back at affluent snots from Park Ridge driving around using Chicago as a hunting preserve.

"We only shot a couple of people..."

"He only wanted to shoot them below the waist, to injure them and see them jump and to see their reaction."

"The pellet is lodged in (the male victim's) liver, has affected his diaphragm, and he is suffering from internal bleeding...The pellet is wedged in (the female victim's) back and is too close to her spine to be removed..."

"I heard a loud pop, and my back hurt," said Arnold, 31, who was hit by a sharpened lead pellet from an air-powered pellet gun...I knew I'd been shot..."

The pellet lodged near her spine, requiring her hospitalization.

Arnold and a second victim were seriously injured in a shooting rampage Tuesday night by two teenage cousins armed with an air rifle. Michael Bobek, 19, of Park Ridge and Daniel Kolasa, 17, of Chicago spent a half-hour driving around the Near Northwest Side shooting at people from the back of Bobek's van for "harmless fun," a prosecutor said.

Joe Rada was shot while jogging..."I started having chest pain and couldn't breathe, I thought maybe it was a bullet."

Rada walked home and was driven to a hospital. X-rays showed that a pellet had grazed his lung and diaphragm and lodged in his liver, causing internal bleeding.

The two were arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery with a weapon. A Cook County judge set bail Thursday at $400,000 for Kolasa and $300,000 for Bobek.

I hope you guys itching to carry this rifle spent the $4,000.00 to get a rifle rated level 3 or greater vest? Nope I didn't think so. Common police practice has been for the past 25 years to wear a vest that will trap your OWN weapons round,no? And another thought, why only 1 rifle per car? Would you like to be going lights and sirens to a man(men) with a rifle(s) armed with a 9mm or .45? And one final thought, what's up with the stupid POWER test? I would rather they have an IQ test. I see the goof's running to get these "toys" and I gotta say, scary. And no, I'm not a liberal, or black or any other crazy thing you pea brains can come up with to describe a person that does not agree with this. Im a life memeber of the NRA and hunt and have been doing this job for more than 10 and less than 30 years with a pistol, night stick and pepper spray and that's all I ever felt I needed. I hear heavy weapons being fired, secure the perimeter and get SWAT. THEY are trained and have the safety vests, not you guys. You answer domestics and take theft case reports. sorry

You cannot pass these rifles around like they do with radios. Who sights the rifle in each time you take one out and need to re-zero it? Three shifts a day, 14/7?

Where do we do this? Where is our range at the district to re-zero our rifles? The only way I will carry one is if I buy my own and maintain control over that weapon.

A beat guy checks out a rifle. That rifle has been checked put by an unknown number of officers who did unknown things with it and who knows how those officers stored or cared for that rifle. Coppers like to fuck with things, the sights are sure to be off. then what, an officer takes a shot with a rifle and the sights are way off and a citizen takes a bullet and not the offender. That officer is responsible for the shot, sights being off or not.

This is a cluster fuck waiting to happen. Unless you get your own rifle or are issued a rifle and get to use the same weapon all the time something will go wrong.

I have been retired over 10 years now, so after you read what I say here, you can flame me to death, tell me to change my diaper, eat my mush, or just generally go screw myself. I wonder if these miracle rifles you are apparently going to get will follow the same progression as the shotguns. In the late 60's around the time of the convention and some of the riots, the Department issued shotguns to every car, both districts and other patrol units. They were initially installed in a lick in the front seat. After sevral months and a few thefts and special interest complaints, they were moved to secure locks in the trunks. It was a frightening time. On nearly every call, where more than one or two units responded, the chilling sound of a round being racked into the chamber was heard. Occasionally a second sound, a loud boom, was heard as the weapon fired. Fortunately, to the best of my knowledge, no one was ever hurt. On many days a loud boom could be heard in the vicinity of radio rooms as the weapons were unloaded prior to being turned in.

What is most interesting though, is the fact that as soon as these weapaons were made available, everybody wanted one, and everyone extolled their usefulness. Generally they were turned in at the conclusion of each tour, and then reissued to the relieving crew, if there was one. The program was met with much enthusiasm. Strangely enough though, by the early 70's PO's had to be reminded on a daily basis to take the shotgun. Eventually Sergeants had to check each vehicle during the tour to verify that the PO's were actually in possession of the weapon. The program culminated with Watch Commanders and other supervisors practically begging individual officers to take a shotgun. By and by the bosses said to hell with it, and a reduced number of the guns were locked up in the stations. I always wondered what happened to the rest of them. I know, I know, this is different. Many of you talk of the need for these rifles because of "something that may happen." I believe what happened with the shotguns will eventually happen with the rifles. Soooner rather than later the majority of you will realize that lugging a rifle around, taking it out, and then re-securing it is more of a pain in tha ass tha it is worth. Early on everyone will be bringing them along on calls. Again, sooner rather than later most of you will realize that all it really does is get in the way, and that the chances or putting it to good use are probably less than 1 percent.

In general, planning for something that only might happen is flawed.

Okay, Go ahead let me have it.

Here's a little secret about the M16/M4 platform that even the range guys probably don't know. The front sight base should be made level with the gas block it's mounted in, just turn it up or down until it's level or even at the base. Center the rear sight with the windage knob, you will see the hash marks, the long one is the center. Now dial the elevation knob all the way down then up 10 clicks. You are now "Battle sight zeroed" and are good to go from 50 to 300 meters.Simple and I'm not even qualified what a shame.OH and by the way, use the small aperture rear sight not the big ghost ring they put on it, flip it to the small one you'll be far more accurate. While I'm at it, what Minute of angle rear sights are they installing? 1/2"?, 1/4"? Why use the FMJ 55 grain round? Why not FMJHP? I happen to prefer a 2 stage trigger, why do you insist on single stage? What I'm getting at here is that there is a lot to learn about basic rifle marksmanship and rifles in general. It seems to me that once again someone who knows relatively little about firearms, rifles in particular, is writing the orders on them. If you want to learn something about firearms, check out Culvers shooting page on the net. Lot's of good info. from old guys, mostly Marines. They know how to shoot. You guys think your M4's kick, try a Mauser.

Read the ORDER! That is if you can access the intranet all by yourself.

I wish I can read the ORDER. But I can't because I'm in Afghanistan. Can I access by internet instead?

"You are now "Battle sight zeroed" and are good to go from 50 to 300 meters.Simple and I'm not even qualified what a shame.OH and by the way, use the small aperture rear sight not the big ghost ring they put on it, flip it to the small one you'll be far more accurate".

My good man , if you qualifed and then took the carbine operator training course you would realize that you wasted 10 minutes of your life writing useless info! First off, the city doesn't want us to take 300 meters sniper shots you ding dong! It's mainly to have equal fire power against close contact active shooters, situation like North Hollywood or Columbine! So relax with your BS military wanna be info! The Range Instructors have the training course covered with all required info.

Sam Elliot was playing SGM Plumely in we were soldiers. If you have a chance to read the book look at the SGM's bio in the back. The guy made it through every combat jump in WWII, a beach landing in Korea, and 2 tours in Nam.

The way I understand the order is, is that if you pass the power test you can buy the rifle prior to the class. This is where it gets complicated you have to register it on a temporary basis, until you complete and pass the cousre. Upon completion of the class they give you the registration. What if you fail the course? keep your bill of sale and bring it back. Its the city so keep that in mind. keep safe over there and come home soon.

Here's a little secret about the M16/M4 platform that even the range guys probably don't know. The front sight base should be made level with the gas block it's mounted in, just turn it up or down until it's level or even at the base. Center

You sir are a Clincher.

They used to keep a 55 gallon steel drum of sand for this, hole cut in the lid, marked "SHOTGUN."

You should slow down before you get ahead of yourself. What you described is called mechanical zero. This is the center setting for the sights. Battle sight zero is where the bullet passes the line of sight on the "drop". This means that the rifle is sighted in on a 25 yard range. The bullet is rising to the line of sight and at 25yds the point of aim and point of impact are the same. Now at roughly 250 yards (I may be off a little) the bullet is now dropping to the line of sight and the point of aim/point of impact will no cross again. This is battle sight zero.

That drum was the result of those loud booms. Many folks still refused to use it anyway.

Bad thing about having a rifle, is sitting thru the class listening to the asshole range guy's war stories. Where does the department find these tools?

OK Mr. "I don't work the streets range boy", you are correct in one thing. I haven't taken the city's course. What I have done is qualified and competed with that rifle and others for over 20 years. I don't want equal fire, I want overwhelming fire and mostly precision fire. I know that each officer that has a rifle must have the rifle sighted in to his eye because it will differ from officer to officer, that's why I think they should be privately owned. However not everyone can afford to buy their own and should know how at least to get the rifle sighted to itself to get on paper, then get the fine adjustments called "Dope" by the way. Now I don't think the range guys are bad or don't know what they are doing, but like everything else in this dept., it's a "Spot" and I have little patience for those in "Spots" who are there because they are related or know someone. When it comes to this subject, I pretty much do know it all so in ending, you sir can KMA.
