Mayor Ray Nagin this week brushed off criticism of the high cost of his administration's controversial crime camera program, arguing that problems are inevitable when you're blazing technological trails.
"I want to remind the public that this is something that we pioneered," the mayor said when asked about reports of rampant overpayments to the contractors who supplied the cameras, which have been plagued by malfunctions. "When you do research and development and you pioneer things, you know, you're going to have some issues."
- During an appearance on WVUE-TV, Nagin also said that at a recent meeting of U.S. mayors, he chatted about crime cameras with Chicago's Richard Daley: "I was just in Washington and Mayor Daley came up to me and he said, 'Look, I like these crime cameras you guys are doing in New Orleans. They're cheaper than hiring more police officers and we're going to do them in a big way in Chicago.' "

The new system helped authorities in December catch a thief who had filched the contents of a Salvation Army kettle, according to the story.
Well, those children don't mean shit to Daley as long as his connected friends, aldercreatures and relatives make their buck off the taxpayers. The cameras have solved ZERO murders, prevented NOT ONE shooting and shut down NOT A SINGLE open air drug market. And we're still short almost 1,000 officers from the totals of 12 years ago and getting shorter every day.

You never heard anything about it from Daley, because the camera was not working at the time. On Thursday night there was a drive by shooting in 023 at Wilson and Sheridan. There is a Pod at the exact location where the shooting occured. Yet, they are unable to retrieve any video from the incident because the camera was blocked by trees and the gun detection system doesn't work!!

I bought a Chalkie Tee this weekend! Drown the city, spend your money outside of Chicago, better yet, go to Indiana. Deprive Shortshanks the tax revenue.
A little math. The city says it pays 15,000 per pod camera. Ill take their low ball figure at face value. Multiply that by the 989 cameras they have listed the total comes to $14,835,000. They have wasted close to 15 million dollars and these boxes of junk!!!! Let me ask you how many of these things are in your neighboorhood? Few, if any, becasue taxpayers dont need a camera to keep them safe. (They dont keep the non-taxpayers safe either). The point is that money could be used in the taxpayers neighborhoods for real infrastructer improvement like pothole repair, new street curbs, sidewalks, alleys, etc. Instead 15 million is dumped in shitty neighborhoods and result in zero return on the investment.

I'm a civilian, but this was always my suspicion. But its staggering to hear it from coppers. Is it because the damn things are broken, or because there's no one watching them on the other end? Reporters should map the cameras and the crime around them for the past year, and find out what happened with the camera in every instance..

I was already cranky because of the traffic, and decided to do a public service and snuff a few of them.
As I eased my Model 92 out from under the seat, I noticed a camera attached to a pole, and it was pointed at my license plate. Frightened, I sped away w/o firing any shots. Two weeks later, I opened my mail and found a ticket for running a red light. But, that camera saved someone from being shot. Deny that if you can!

2nd the officer was on their way home from work, after a late arrest, and did tell them she was the police.

Actually I work in 009 on the 1st watch and have not heard about this. Please tell the beat # and I'll do my own leg work. To the p.o.'s that blew off the fellow copper, you should really be ashamed of yourself because when you go calling for help you know the whole watch is coming. Like the poster said the S/A would not have approved charges unless it was on tape. The CCSA office goes out of their way to deny charges. Now we have a tool to show them and the public how these animals act. Sure there will be a small group who supports them no matter what. Kind of like PETA. Those cameras are useless. There have been shootings caught on tape in 011 and you can barely identify the type of vehicle he was driving let alone the shooter. What's the point? On afternoons when the district is backlog from start to finish they have the balls to call down from OEMC to say people are drinking at Homan and Walnut. And they assign the job to a car. so I read all entries about the po from 008's problem with the po's from 009 and all who blogged in support of the 008 dist po need to figure out what story you want to believe. Was she at a birthday party for herself and she doesnt drink or was she coming home from a late arrest. Its impossible to have a late arrest @0500 hrs when she's assigned to midnights. 0500 hrs is in the middle of her tour you ass kissers. Also why do you have to keep mentioning that she was sober? We all know that when you do that is to hide the fact that she was probably 3 sheets to the wind. I work in 010 on 1st watch and if she wanted to be ignorant and beef, I would have just 501'd her ass. I piss on her and her 2 yrs. You can probably count her arrests on one hand. This broad better be gorgeous for so many of you to believe her bullshit story. I had the chance to talk to some 009 officers at the gas pumps and what I heard was that this po is on a 1st name basis with the shit heads that broke her window. hey 008, maybe you should do a check on the girl who works with you. Sounds like she's a piece of shit herself. Hey 009, 010 supports you.

I happen to work in 009 and to personally know this officer that works in 008. She did not call 911 because she did not have a working cell phone. Yes she was coming from her own birthday celebration and was unarmed.I also happen to know for a fact that she does not drink. She had stopped at a red light when a group of SD's started throwing gang signs at her and threw a brick through her car window. The SD's remained on scene and that is y she did want immediate attention. The incident had just occured so she asked the officers from 009 to take a drive to the location of the accident since the offenders had remained on scene. The officer never asked for them to do paper since we all know it is cheaper to replace the window yourself then to do an insurance claim. These officers in 009 took it upon themselves to ask for a paper car to cover there own asses. I also know the person that they were doing the paper for (son of a dispatcher and grandson of a crossing guard) who's girlfriend had fled the scene after breaking out his windows. I guess paper is more important to some than a possible late arrest. Yes she did mention names of possible offenders and not because she is a piece of shit but because she has always lived in the neighborhood and pays attention to what goes on around her.
The funny thing is that while people are talking shit about her they have no clue who she is.
I noticed the officers broken car window and the cut above her eye at a gas station so I put it together. She not once bad mouth any officers in 009 and said she was just glad no one was hurt and refused to say who the officers in 009 are or their beat. She also stated that she did not want to get anyone in trouble for a decision they made because noone was hurt and a window can just be replaced. Officers in 008 already knew about the incident not from her but from someone in 009.
For the officers in 009 that refused to help a fellow PO - I know who you are and be sure that although now I know you are dog asses I will always back up PO's in need of assistance.

She might have two years on the job but she is a better person than you. So...if your 6-3 tour is from 2100 to 0530hrs, and you have a late arrest at 0500hrs, how can you be processing the arrest in 008 AND on view SDs breaking out the window of your personal car at 0400-0500hrs whilst cumming from a b-day partay around Archer/Throop?
