Resignation Offer
Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis said today that while he was disappointed with the police union's picketing on the day that an International Olympics evaluation committee arrived in Chicago, he supported their right to express their views.
He said he faults himself for not effectively communicating changes to the department's rank-and-file officers.
"It tells me I haven't done a good enough job getting our information out,'' said Weis. "That tells me I have to work a little bit harder. At the end of the day, the morale of the department is on me.''
- He said he has ordered his command staff to go to every roll call with talking points to help build up the morale of the officers.
Weis said that if he ever learned that he personally was responsible for lowering the morale in the department, he would be the first to go.

Please Wies I hope you read this blog: I go to 10-1's because eventhough my morale is low, we have no contract, no respect for the mayor or the things you have done or not done....the one thing I know for sure is that I am the police and when one of my own in blue is calling a 10-1, I will respond lights and sirens. Do you even know or feel that gut feeling that comes over you when you hear that over the radio? I imagine you don't because if you did you would know by now that everyone of the PO's that were out there at city hall and the many who couldn't make it are calling out a 10-1 to you. Good morale is not based on responding to 10-1s. It is sad to think that Weis uses that as a measure. The latest PAX 501 that I read listed many "regrets" or thoughts that Weis NOW has, which should have been his position 14 months ago. Unfortunately for him, it is way too late to salvage that which he has destroyed. No amount of backpeddling and apologizing will help. The only thing he can do now is to keep his mouth shut, put his job on the line and do what is right. It would take him until the end of his contract to possibly get back to square one. I was told at the beginning to give him a chance. So, I did. But when his first PAX 501 came out in February of 2008 with a bunch of lies, contradicting what he told the aldercreatures about his purpose and misrepresenting the depth of the dept. I felt that I was correct in my original assessment. Perhaps we should send the Weis family some boxes. I think they will need them for their next move.

What the hell does jody know about 10-1's? The last time the FBI was involved in a 10-1, they left one of ours to die. I will never forget that day, plenty of real police ready to go in regardless of gunfire to save one of our own and the FBI FORBIDDING us to do so. It is one call you always here and always respond to. That is because we are one. We are all blue. Nobody else is coming to our aid. If you have heard a 10-1 have you ever bothered to respond. I bet not. That's because you are not one of us. You have to come up through the ranks to understand. I have seen Sgt's, Lt's, Inspectors of past and exempts of past show at 10-1's. What an ass-clown,to think the way we respond to a 10-1 has to do with morale.Me thinks that all the comments on this wonderful,beautiful relating to J-PUD having no clue to street level policing is true.We don't respond to 10-1's because of high morale,we respond because a fellow officer is in need of help that will only be provided by fellow officers,you won't see an aldercreature runing in the direction of where the help is needed,you won't find chuck Gawdie (again not a mispelling)runing in the direction of where the help is needed,you won't see Daley rolling down the block in the direction of where the help is needed.What you will see is brave,well intentioned,valaint individauls who,if need be will give they're very lives to assist the officer/officer's.For that bravery all we get from Cityhall is disdain,contempt,ridicule and even much worse.for the alderemen who don't support you'r P.O.'s,shame on you because you will need us before we need you that is for damned sure.
Dear Mr. Weiss: If you had a clue about what a 10-1 really is,yesterday was our way of calling a 10-1 and hoping you would respond kindly,but guess what you did not.Thanks for responding to our outcry to you with our collective hands fully extended while on one knee and needing our Supt. to help us up but who instead pushed us back down on the ground while saying "HOW DISRESPECTFUL YOU ARE BY DOING THIS TO ME".You want to know why Chicago has some of the bravest men and women Police Officers in the world,we stood up,dusted off our clothes and proudly said: When a vote of no confidence was give onto you,this was the very reason why because you cannot/willnot/or do not recognize when your Officer's are in trouble and need you to come to our aid and provide us with a warm blanket then gently wrap your arms around us and tell us you will keep us safe.That is why we have no confidence in you,you say you have our backs in public but stick a knife in it when the t.v. camera's are off.Any street level law enforcement person would know that what we did yesterday was our way of standing up for what is fair,for what is right,for what is just.you will do well to remember that.any good boss would know that yesterday was not us thumbing our nose at you but a cry for help.

Just heard a promo for this weekend's (WBBM radio) 'At Issue' program. It said Weis reiterates his resolve to 'stand by his officers and he denies he had anything to do with the Federal charge on Cozzi. He said he 'doesn't have that kind of power'.
Who has the date and time of that little town hall meeting where Weis flat-out took responsibility for handing that file off to his Fed friends? Kindly post it. We need to plaster this info all over the internet, not just the blog.

i will say this to all the non police.....only a chicago police officer knows what it means to be a chicago police officer. you can have a masters degree in blah blah blah. im sure the FBI is very different from other organizations too. you have to experience it. you have to put in some time in the crapy areas. there are things you just cant teach. j-fed is the square peg that wont fit in the round hole. he just doesnt get it..nor will he ever. if i put on my dad s old marine uniform does that make me a marine?
can we buy him out? 9000 of us all kick in a grand, thats a 90g check... in the memo section, write "take the money and run"... (before everyone goes nuts, im kidding)

J-Fed: there were more than 160 police officers and the picket march. were your able to read the signs and hear the chants? we said what did because we still have freedom of speech unless your going to put out a 501 that we lost that to. read our lips "WE HAVE NO CONFIDENCE" in your abilities to run the great police department. seeing/reading this do us a favor. back up your statement and RESIGN!
Just curious, Jody has a contract, we know he makes $310,000 a year for 3 years and he gets a free car.Is it true that the city also picks up the rent on his condo?Heard this rumor,anybody know?
Just curious...how many of you officers who have gone on a 10-1 in the last year have seen punk ass on the scene to witness our response?The only thing he see's is shortprick's ass.

The evaluation program became effective 01 Apr 09!! The bottom line- POPULARITY contest with a side order of QUOTA/activity game. Let's not ignore the part of bad or low evaluations mean no merit promotion, no secondary employment and no special employment AND the start of termination process!!! HOW ABOUT this order for supporting the troops?
All I want to say is, Get rid of the 6th work day! It's inhumane to work 6 days straight, then work a side job or two and then suffer the consequences of being overworked, underpaid, stressing, getting sick, and bottom line not being able to perform or do much after suffering the above schedule. We are Human after all, not Robocops! I'm feeling stressed, tired, depressed, overworked and UNDERPAID!! CPD must have a proper cost of living raise, and the 6th day done with. Let's not forget a raise and better health coverage!!!
