Veteran? Or Insider?
- A former Chicago City Hall official will succeed U.S. Rep.-elect Mike Quigley on the Cook County Board after winning the blessing of North Side Democratic power brokers Saturday.
Ward committeemen chose Bridget Gainer, 40, over Kimberly Walz, 34, who was Quigley's chief of staff and now plans to work in his local congressional office. None of the other six candidates got a vote.
Gainer, a city budget analyst and Chicago Park District lakefront director before going to work as Aon Corp.'s public strategy director, said her experience makes her "the best person for this job." She also boasted of "strong, progressive credentials."
The Gainer name has along and storied history here in town. So the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Let's see, here is another local Gainer who made good: Terry Gainer, former assistant Chief of Illinois State Police, former assistant Chief of Washington DC Police, former Chief of US Capitol Police and current Sgt at Arms of the US Senate.
You mean she is from THAT Gainer family? What else does anyone expect from Daley and the northside alderman, Tunney, who says Gainer is the "best person for the job."
What's the matter, wasn't there a Vanecko groomed for the job yet?

When are people going to wake up and realize that Daley could give a shit less what people think. He don't care what any of us say. He doesn't care about voters, he has ways to "fix" that. His only concern is Rich Daley and family.

I have known her for some time, actually a pretty good person but for sure a Daley insider. She is elated to the Gainer in DC the former ISP director I think at least a cousin, maybe a niece, not quite sure on that connnection. SHe has been around city, state and county government a long time and knows all the insiders and players. JUst the knid ofperson who understands the unwritten rules of clouts, contracts and the wink and a nod deal making. Works at AON the Patrick Ryan owned insurance company who is leading the charge for the olympics in 2016' Iam sure Daley figured he needed a person on the county boars who could do his bidding, knows the ropes, used to work for the Park District, knows Tim Mitchell well and knows to to call to get things done the Chicago Way. Fact of life folks this is Chicago probably the most corrupt City in the USA.

For what its worth, it is a big family, and I know quite a few of them. They are all related. Tim, Terry, Bridget and others whose names need not be placed here.
In fact, I should note that they have relatives with last names other than "Gainer", and some of them are or were blue shirts in the patrol division. Good people too. Its not like the name automatically gets you a political promotion or something.
