Another Police Shooting

  • Three people were critically injured and one person was shot dead by Chicago Police Wednesday night in the Southeast Side's South Shore neighborhood.

Emergency crews responded to the shooting at 71st Street and Paxton Avenue at 6:57 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.

Police were responding to a call of an aggravated battery at the address and discovered three gunshot victims. A fourth victim was shot by police at 71st and Merrill Avenue, according to a police source.
No word if the fourth person shot was the offender from the first triple shooting. But it was a busy 24 hours all around town:
Careful out there. It's dangerous.

GREAT work by J.M. and J.M. On-view shitbag shooting at crowd on the street. Ended up shooting 4 people including a 60 something female. Shitbag was then chased and shot by officers.

Lesson learned--don't point gun at police.

Great work by all involved.

Are we so short on manpower, that the FBI has to assist us on armed robbery missions now? There is nothing federal about a string of gas station robberies.

The manpower crisis is causing the FBI to supplement our ranks now. Maybe J-Fed can get some of them assigned to beat cars in A2 and A1, ASAP.

Hire some PO's before another officer is murdered, due to the manpower shortage on the streets!

Just a comment from an old timer here. Its always interesting talking to the arrestees, like we all do. And talking to an older (30 years) male black from the south side now "moved" in Rogers Parks area was this. He said he left because everybodys carrying a gun nowadays, everbody got a gun. He left dope for theft and prostitution, 'Nobodys got no respect, and besides it's easier money."
He's got morals and goals.

Thank you mayor shit head, you're doing a great job on focusing on the gun problem in Chicago.

OT: I hear the sergeants association is close to settling their contract and that they are going to accept a 15% raise over 5 years. This sets a bad precedent, settling for less than was offered originally.

Does anyone think that Daley will give us more than he is willing to give supervisors? No way.

Arbitration.

The Unit Reps will be called together for a vote on arbitration within a month. Then the Reps can vote for or against arbitration and Donahue can wash his hands of it, he can blame either decision on Unit Reps.

Of course the sergeants have a me-too, if PO's get more so will they.

Anyone still producing revenue for this jagoff mayor is fucking nuts.

SCC, I noticed your news clip is from Channel2, because they are the only news source that refers to dead scumbag as "the fourth victim" who was shot by Chicago Police. The title of their article at their web site was something to the effect of Cops: one shot dead, three injured, which would lead CPD killed one and maimed 3. I'm guessing you did that to get a reaction from your readers. Further proof that Channel2 is the worst of the scum media.

I saw an interesting chart the other day.

It seems NYC has 44 cops per 10,000 residents, while Chicago has 45.

Baltimore seems to have the most cops per capita of the larger cities at 49/10000 residents.

In fact, according to the chart, Chicago has the 4th highest number of cops per capita of large cities in the whole country. Only Baltimore (49), Newark (46), and Philidelphia (46) have more.

The depressing thought is that we have 1 cop per 250 residents in our large cities and even that does not make us safe. Would it help if it was 1/200? Or even 1/100? I kind of doubt it.

Food for thought.

OT- got this in an email. Have not looked into its validity yet but thought this was right up SSC alley.

HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009
Please send this to everybody on your list... this is Obama guncontrol by secrecy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House.
This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.
We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the radar.
To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

.It is registered
.You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver's License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
.Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25
- Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

.There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this..
http://www.opencong ress.org/ bill/111- h45/text

It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the wordalong.

FAILURE TO DO SO AT YOUR PERIL!

Any hunters in your family - pass this along.

Peter Boyles is on this and having guests. Listen to him on KHOW 630 a.m. in the morning.

He suggests the best way to fight this is to tell all your friends about it and "spring into action".

Also he suggests we all join a pro-gun group like the Colorado Rifle Association, hunting associations, gun clubs and especially the NRA..

This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense - chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it.

This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not.

The Second Amendment... . America's original homeland security

Chicago does not have a gun problem. It has a crime problem and until the city focuses on criminals and putting them away, there will be no relief. Blaming inanimate objects is PC and politically convenient, but does not serve any real purpose.

OFF TOPIC, but important

O.K., nobody want to sit on a jury but we all would like to have had all 12 votes on O.J. Simpson or on Richard M. Daley.

But, I was recently called for jury duty and darn it it was on my day off so the only thing I got was the $17.20 check from the county.

This was on a civil case and what got me out of it was the fact that I was the complainant on several CRIMINAL CASES. The clerk made an error in the questioning an only asked if the potential jurors were involved in any civil cases. The fact then arose that I could be called to testify during this case and I was immediately excused by the judge. It was, "Thank-you, you Honor." and I was gone.

Stay safe, and don't do what this fool did...

OFF TOPIC:

Did anyone else receive sewer and water bills recently?

I'm so pissed-off right now. I was on here exactly 6 months ago raging about the increase in my bill.

Some wrote,in essence, relax it's a one time increase because water rates hadn't been increased in years.

Well it's becoming like our medical insurance premiums, it's going up every year.

Six months ago it went from $179.00to $197.00, NOW it went from $197.00 to $207.00. W-T-F?

I don't even drink the shit or wash my car.

I see a "TEA PARTY" on the horizon if the city, county, and state officials don't take their hands out of our pockets!

What really pisses me off is there are some property owners, (cozy with Daley), in this city who aren't in the system, never get billed, and haven't paid for water in generations..decades..EVER! When they do occasionally get caught, the powers that be say "oops..sorry..clerical error." than it all goes away. What about all the commercial buildings paying the residential rates? What a scam!!!!!!!

Did anyone catch today's sound bite by Shortshanks on city workers taking additional days off to help balance the budget? Did anyone in the press ask HIZZONER if HE intended to take additional NO PAY DAYS OFF HIMSELF? I remember last time this subject was brought up, the Mayor hadn't taken any, because, in his words, "no one told me to." Just want to make sure that Shortshanks makes an equal contribution to the no pay days as everyone else.
The budget shortfall probably wouldn't be nearly as bad if he hadn't decided for the past two years to fuck over the Police.
Maybe an apology and a settlement of the contract might reverse this, to some degree. Just a thought. Oh, and when you do all that, Dickie, you can take that little pissant Chief of Staff you shoved up Weis's ass with you. I'm sure you can find some busywork for him in your offices at City Hall (under your desk, of course!).

Daley Disagrees With Obama's 'Glimmer Of Hope' On Economic Recovery

Posted by Dan Mihalopoulos at 12:38 p.m.; last updated at 3:43 p.m.

Mayor Richard Daley announced new cost-cutting measures today, saying he does not see the “glimmer of hope” for economic recovery that President Barack Obama recently described.

...city officials announced as many as 14 more unpaid days off for non-union city workers. With the City Council’s approval, the mayor’s plan would mean seven furlough days and no pay on as many as seven holidays this year, Daley said.

Although the news conference clearly was designed to pressure the unions into making concessions, the mayor described recent discussions with labor leaders as positive.

Dickhead Daley has balls the size of a Rhino to be able to stand up and complain about money shortages when everyone knows he has a fortune tucked away for the Olympics.

A REAL leader claiming the City is in dire financial straits and asking for monetary concessions from the Unions would start his press conference with the guarantee that HE, his entire administration, and all of the alderman will rescind their pay raises and forgo all of the holiday pay etc. that they want everyone else to give up. I didn't hear him say that.

And not one news person even asked him about that! Cowards !

Former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson was arrested today in the death of his ex-wife, Kathleen Savio, who was found drowned in an empty bathtub in March 2004, according to Will County State's Atty. James Glasgow.

Authorities have scheduled an 8:30 p.m. news conference at state police District 5 headquarters near Joliet.

Will County state's attorney's office spokesman Chuck Pelkie confirmed Peterson was arrested about 5:40 p.m. during a traffic stop at Lily Cache Lane and Weber Road in Bolingbrook in connection with an indictment in the murder of Savio.

When reached early Thursday evening, Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, said he was unaware of the arrest.

"You know more than I do. I'm on a plane it's taking off in 5 minutes to go to NYC. I guess they'll have a bond hearing Monday," he said.

Ironic. President Obama's new budget proposal includes eliminating a benefits program for the families of slain police and safety officers from $110 million to $60 million. But he wants to create a $1 billion program to help low income families with housing and food.

I thought I hated the city, the county, and the state, but now I hate the country? Where do we go now to retire?

What do you do when you are a lowly Lieutenant on the Chicago Police Department and your cousin is married to a U.S. Senator?
You get appointed to a position as Deputy Chief and are eligible for a $100,000.00 + per year pension.
What do you do if you are promoted to Deputy Superintendent but really screw up and get dumped back to a lowly Lieutenant?
You take a leave of absence and wait for your cousin’s husband to become President. You then take your $100,000.00 + pension from the Chicago Police Department and get appointed by a political appointee as head of the Chicago Public Schools head of security with a salary of another $100,000.00 + per year + benefits!

Here's a little dessert,
is that based on 13,500 officers? Most "charts" use the number of officers that is reported by the city. We all know how the mayor, Jodi, and everyone else like to throw around the number of officers we are budgeted for, not what we really have. Also you have to take into consideration land mass. New York has a lot more people but a lot of their living space is vertical. The area covered per officer is probably much smaller than what is expected of the CPD.

Last I checked, HIZZONER is not a union employee, so HOW MANY FURLOUGH DAYS IS HIZZONER TAKING??? Has HIZZONER exempted himself from these troubling times?? WHEN WILL SOMEONE OTHER THAN KASS STEP UP AND ASK TOUGH QUESTIONS??? ASK THE FREAKIN QUESTIONS!!! "Mr. Mayor... How many days off without pay are you taking? You demand furlough days of those without union protection, you are not in a union, are you going to be affected???" or "Mr. Mayor, are you going to be taking a paycut? You have asked the police to give up their raises, and cite tough economic times, so are you going to lead by example and take a pay cut yourself? How about city council? How can you claim financial distress yet allow 6% raises for yourself and city council?" ASK THE QUESTIONS OR WE WILL BUY A PAPER THAT DOES!!!!!!!!!!!

Something on WBBM this morning about the number of elevators in Chicago that go uninspected (70% annually) because of a lack of city inspectors to do it. So the city's response? They're going to look at outside contractors to do the job. WTF? So Daley can hand some more friends City contracts? Hire some fucking people (for less) and get the job done. Quit stealing money for your pals.

Dude, the federal nexus is violation of Hobbs Act - Interference with interstate commerce by robbery. Periodically used around the country to combine FBI-police effort to stop violent robbery strings of commercial businesses like this before someone gets killed, including coppers rolling up on it. Usually used by FBI-police violent crime task forces. You'll probably find the police wanted to team up and approach the case this way.

Of course it's not original!

"Any good prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich" is a 24 year old joke
(coined by former New York state Chief Judge Sol Wachtler, not L&O).

There's nothing wrong with applying an old joke to a new situation.

Johnel Ford was shot and killed on Feb. 12, 2009. He was 16.

Chicago has experienced a rise in youth violence, particularly in its inner-city neighborhoods. There have already been 36 school students who have been killed so far this year, which is troubling, and many young people have been hurt in the shootings.

One factor causing the violence is the large-scale demolition of the city’s public housing developments. When the “projects” were torn down, over 20,000 families were sent to other neighborhoods. This means that over 100,000 poor people had to find a new place to live. Nearly 90 percent ended up moving to other poor neighborhoods in Chicago that were as crime-ridden as the projects. This also meant that the kids had to cross gang boundaries. It is not an accident that youth violence is occurring in and around Chicago schools because gangs spend a lot of time recruiting in school areas. The youth who ended up in new schools were assumed to represent an enemy gang, even if they had no gang membership.

The situation has become explosive.

Chicago also has some of the most corrupt and ineffective police. In low income minority neighborhoods, residents and police still don’t get along. The result is that people feel unsafe and don’t rely on the law to come to their aid. Instead, they will sometimes take matters into their own hands, which can lead to further escalations in violence.

The city needs to spend time and money providing opportunities for youth in some of these neighborhoods. Most of the resources are in the elite areas of the city, near the Lakefront, but they are most needed in the middle and working-class neighborhoods. Hopefully this recent violence will serve as a wakeup call for Mayor Daley’s administration.

Otherwise, things might get worse.

Everyone should know by now that Shields is too young to draw a pension as of yet. I don't fault anybody in his shoes for taking a LOA from what has definitely become a shit job on a poorly managed Dept. today and going somewhere else. And his promotions occurred long before BO was running for Prez. I doubt the BO got involved in any discussions about hiring Shields for the new job anyway. If anything, you've gotta wonder why Shortshanks would have allowed the demotion to occur right after BO's election. Weis seems to have a serious problem in promoting and maintaining any serious numbers of African American exempts, and it seems to be a problem that is largely ignored by many in the Dept. along with the media.

A new law is under consideration that would say if firearms are manufactured and sold inside the state of Tennessee, federal gun law would not apply.
-------------------------------
MT already passed such a law, and I think TX is close.

This is not really so much about guns as it is about the overreaching power of the feds to regulate everything and everybody.

The area covered per officer is probably much smaller than what is expected of the CPD.
-------------------------------
If the area covered is the issue, how do you account for low population density counties that sometimes have no cops on duty at night at all but retain very low crime rates.

If crime was inversely proportion to the number of cops, one would think that no cops on duty at all would lead to serious crime problems.
