"Bear" Found? (Not Found)

Running down the Dan Ryan around 63rd Street a short time ago.

That's a long way from home.

Welcome back.

UPDATE: WBBM AM 780 reported twice this morning that the dog was found. Now we're getting conflicting reports. Someone nail this down please.

UPDATE: Evidently, another police dog escaped and was running down the Dan Ryan this morning which necessitated the shut down of the expressway.

Rumor has it that Bear went over the fence because he was tired of working without a contract!!

As of 08:55, NOT found per K9 office.

Please keep your eyes open.

Thanks to everyone that has helped.
County, A2 dicks, streets and San guys, postal workers, citizens and 22nd district were all out yesterday.

If it was my dog I'd be going nuts.

It's not Bear's fault. He fell into bad habits after having to sniff for contraband. He took a few days off to experiment for himself. He is now sure of the direction in which he wants to head in his life. He has rededicated his life to da Mare, Jodi, and the Dept.

"Bear" was merely tracking the scent of the bad guys. He was going to go up the off-ramp at 63rd St. until he was rudely interrupted by some disillusioned knee jerk do-gooder.

Make "Bear" a commander. He's got more common sense than most of the current brass.

I am so THRILLED to read this!
When I read in the Trib about his plight, it made me so sad.

It's wonderful that this story had a happy ending. Dogs become our family, and Bear is very special.
I know his owner will give him a big T-Bone steak and a party today!
All the prayers for his safe return were answered. Praise GOD!

Aside from the imbedded ID microchip, was "Bear" wearing any collar or tags? If so, please describe.

I understand that we can anonymously contribute to the $2,000 reward already offered for his safe return. How?

Can we assume that all suburban police depts. are also aware of the missing dog? CPD Point-to-Point "All Call" broadcast at frequent intervals? Is there any possibility that "Bear" might be trying to return to a previous owner?

Have all local media, particularly the "urban" radio stations broadcast this information and the reward (no questions asked)?

Can other CPD dogs or scent-trained bloodhounds track "Bear" from the last confirmed sighting?

BBM just said it was ANOTHER police dog this morning and that Bear is still missing.

Question: aren't law enforcement dogs trained to ignore loud noises like gunshots, etc.? Seems odd that bear would be storm-freaked.

Allegedly, Bear, distraught over the Recent Lieutenant Exam results became despondant and depressed. He met up with several other hard working PO Dogs behind the 7-11 at 87th and xxxxxx where they held an impromptu "meeting" regarding this. After consuming many "pops" and having brief (VERY brief) contact with the sole female PO Dog there,Bear wandered off into the wild sniffing hither and yon for what he knows best....BAD GUYS. Finding none bear began to question his worth in the department. He found a niche in an alley and rested for a while. While resting he noticed his Checkerboard Dog Collar in a reflection in a pool of water in the alley.Suddenly, without warning, bear began to bark loudly. A surge of energy overcame Bear and he was last seen running back to the Area to return to duty..........

Welcome back Buddy....go get em

Off, the record, the new tahoes have started to arrive in districts. Here are some safety issues with them:
1. Bad guys can reach around past the velcro to grab you or your partner. Make sure everyone is cuffed if they are in you back seat!!!
2. The camer housing leaks water when it rains, watch out so you don't get electricuted.
3. Most new vehicles sirens and lights are not properly hooked up-ship it back.
4. The cup holder is in the door-don't burn you leg on the hot coffee!
5. Make the city pay dearly since they won't give us a raise, the tahoe gets about 10 miles to the gallon!!!
6. No rear dome light to see what reports you need.
7. Use caution when shifting gears and using the pdt-liable to put gear shift in another gear!!!
8. Good luck in the winter-no 4 wheel drive!
Take care, stay safe and back each other up.

I did hear that he had a microchip but microchips are not GPS. They only function if you take them to a shelter and they scan them. I hope they do find him though. I can't imagine what the handler must be going through.

Keep your eyes open guys. I hope he didn't wander into the wrong hands. My guess is he probably took off towards Oak Lawn.

Also, shouldn't the city offer a reward? I'm sure it would be worth it considering the amount of money and time that goes into these guys. If someone does have him, they are probably waiting for a reward to be offered. Just my .02.

""7. Use caution when shifting gears and using the pdt-liable to put gear shift in another gear!!!""

Does the FlOP have anything to say about this?? The problem is EXACTLY the same in the cars that have the Plate readers and the larger Motorola PDT......Flip the screen up or down to get to the blower controls or the light bar controls, and put it in a different gear.

But you know, It's just all our fault. No matter what they do we are just a bunch of whiny bitches.
Aren't we ever satisfied? Gee whiz, new cars new toys new technology and we just aren't happy..........
CAUSE YOU @)**$$0's just can't get it right and don't care.

One of my favorite quotes from Colin Powell:

Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.

Like I posted before when we thought Bear had been found...then they said it wasn't him. I kept praying and in faith and so naming & claiming it, indeed "Bear" WAS found.

Dogs ARE just like our children, and it must be doubly so for PO's and their canine partners. Everyone on here making nasty & stupid comments, please #1) learn to read and comprehend the facts & #2) don't be so mean spirited to a loving animal who got spooked by thunder. All you haters probably had run-ins w/ the po po & still are mad u got caught!

Everyone knows that storms bring atmospheric changes that animals can sense on a different level - read about all the animals that were bolting before the tsunami's hit indonesia!

Anyway, All's well that ends well and Bear deserves his big t-bone steak!
BTW, is it really a good idea, Tribune, to publicise the address/block where the officer & Bear Live??? I think NOT ...Now you'll have nuts and trolls strolling the block looking to cause him more grief!(I hope not, but PO King, keep your eyes on him).
