Please Merit Promote Us

We really really want to be promoted and under this new rating system we think we have a chance. We just need a few things answered for us:
  • What is the total number of tickets needed to be eligible for promotion and could you break it down by "mover," "parker" and "ANOV."
  • Give us an arrest total to shoot for. We'll worry about the potential Civil Rights lawsuits later. We just want a number.
  • Will CTA checks give us an advantage over the competition? If we do platform checks vs bus checks, do we get a bonus for having to climb all those stairs? And can we do other platforms besides the one on our beat?
  • What about park checks? Do we have to sign logs? We have two playlots on the beat so no log to sign which means we have to poach two beats over. And the guy on that beat is ambitious, too.
  • The Contact Card thing - again, a total please? We can stop a whole bunch of people night after night, but it's the same people and their mommas and reverends are getting pissed. They told us at the CAPS meeting that we were picking on their boys, and then they bitch about the same corner we keep stopping their kids at.
Does anyone have the totals that HQ wants? Would they share them?

They won't define what merits a "merit" promotion. Does anyone really think they are going to put a number on paper to rate you fairly?

HMMMMM

ALL THOSE NUMBER R WORTHLESS!

U SEE MOST MANAGEMENT PICKS COME OUT OF UNIT.

GUYS AND GALS IN NARCOTICS DONT RIGHT PARKERS OR DO MANY CASE REPORTS.

DONT 4 GET E.T'S, THE DOG POLICE, THE HORSE POLICE, BOMB TECHS, SWAT, ACADEMY TEACHERS, ERP WORKERS, SECURITY DETAILS DONT GENERATE NUMBER BUT THEY DO SEEM TO GET PROMOTED AT A HIGHER RATE.

DONT 4 GET DICKS, CASE MANAGEMENT, DESK DOLLIES, DIAPER DICKS, SEX CRIMES, FINANCIAL CRIMES, CLEAR PAPER BUT DONT ACTUALLY HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF ARREST AND DONT WRITE TICKETS. BUT ONCE AGAIN HAVE A HIGHER RATE OF PROMOTION.

MAY B THAT DUTY AVAILABILITY SHOULD APPLY TO STREET OFFICERS!

JUST A THOUGHT.
IF U SWEAT THIS GIG IT WILL MAKE A VERY SICK AND LONELY PERSON W/ A VEST THAT DOESNT FIT.

You forgot the best quota questions. How many times do i have to swallow? How many times do i have to sleep with a boss before i have to be promoted? If i take it in the ass do i get a cushy desk job?

Heard from City Hall source that Mayor Daley is going to possibly scrap Lt's list. He will offer Lt's Assc. big bucks to each Lt. to scrap any future tests and promote with merit. The reason with tight economy the city can kill two birds with one stone. Lt. exam with Ernst & Young is about 4 million dollars to promote only about 50 Sgts to Lt. Lots of money with little return. If Lt's Assc. agrees to $25,000 buy out at 51% of vote no test just like they did to Captains Assc. Daley builds up more political army on CPD than ever before. Merit builds political armies that are loyal to Mayor Daley. This will never happen in promotion from PO to Sgt because not cost effective even though Daley would like to build a bigger police army to eventually get Patrick in office.

I was spoken to tonight by the wc about my low arrest numbers. I noted the date, time, location, name and star of the wc (who is a good boss but she is being told to do this from downtown). I plan on calling the union Monday and see what they say. I cant be the only one who was brought in for a talk. I would advise all others to do the same as me.

The truly scary thing about this new rating system is not that the Department would try such a thing, but that they actually think it could work. The fact that they spent millions of dollars developing and implementing a system that will be picked to pieces with grievances and lawsuits shows the incredible stupidity of the hacks running the show.
Are we heavy with dogs and dummies that avoid work? Yes. But this is the fault of a broken organization that promotes by clout and has hired and retained goofs for decades. The city is reaping the many years of hiring misfits because they are connected or fill a "demographic" need. Combine that with the years of FTOs being unable (not necessarily unwilling) to weed out the assholes and you have today's CPD. Once again, Frankenstein is looking to control the monster he created.

My main beef is, JFed will push for prosecution of a cop, i.e. Cozzi. But at the same time, he wants us to play the numbers game. How about we he gets on the ASA's to prosecute these arrests. If I lock someone up for a rock, which is a felony, dont pull a No Prob on them. If they prosecuted even half of our arrests, then the crime rate would be down with these jerks in the pen.

Yep. The good old W.C. had nothing better to do with her night than to yell at a stellar P.O.. I'm tired of working with guys like you.

Here's the deal with the Lts test, they will promote around 50-60 off this list, Daley decided that since they paid for the test (3-4 million) he isn't going to let that go to waste. What he is trying to do is NOT have another test THAT is when he will try the buy-out for Lts and attempt to have promotions just like the captains. Rumor also has it that the number promoted depends on the contract settlement and how many Lts & above retire.

…”The fact that they spent millions of dollars developing and implementing a system that will be picked to pieces with grievances and lawsuits shows the incredible stupidity of the hacks running the show.”…

THIS; Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls of all ages is EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR DEPARTMENT! We see it every day, and it’s sad! We have too many Managers and Supervisors on this job. These knuckleheads come up with some fucked up “Rating System”? We have a case of a very competent “Manager” in a District numerically and geographically between 2 and 4. Seems like she’s managing that place right into the ground! Where have all of the LEADERS gone? Ummm, on a side note, Id like to tell the nit-with boss that put together the whole “Leadership” class at the academy: Its kinda like BALLS, Either you got it, or you don’t! Its not something you can teach. Too many Mealers, Whites, Rosells, Crump-Hales…. Where have all the Farrells gone? We used to have a couple like him around here somewhere… Another sad but true fact, how many of truly excellent ones have ever been promoted past Capt? A handful at best…

Too much College, not enough High School.
Too many Managers, not enough Leaders.
Too many Pussies, not enough Balls.

This place is fucking sad!

get rid of district lieutenants,
assign lts to an area and let them cover 2 or 3 districts
we need more sergeants , not lieutenants or captains
why does cpd need captains, 90% of exempts are lieutenants
someone please fill in the new boss
and get rid of captains, it's costing the pension big time

How can you possibly create a rating system for all PO's when you cant compare 016th district to 011th district in the types of work they do.
Last I looked we are all JOB CODE 9161, how can you compare a 3rd watch 011 worker to a day desk officer in 020 to someone in a mgt desk job inside????
Impossible!!!
Change everypersons job code to be exactly what they are doing???
THIS TOO WILL PASS!!!

I think you hit it in the head SCC. I am long gone from the job but when the pressure used to come to make more arrest, any kind, it did not matter, we used to ask for somthing in writting to guide us, because of civil rights etc. The boses, although better than the ones you have now, would hit the ceiling, It's impossible to put that B.S. in writting. This should be the job of the watch reps. They should ask the WC or whoever for something in writing. When refused, the union should be notified and action taken. Remember ASK FOR IT IN WRITING.
