Great Job Officer
A Chicago police officer shot and critically wounded a woman inside a car as she tried to grab his gun near the Magnificent Mile Downtown this afternoon, authorities said.
Around noon, officers responded to a call that a woman who had earlier bought items with stolen credit cards at a Louis Vuitton store, 919 N. Michigan Ave., had returned and was trying to make more purchases, police said.
When officers arrived, the woman fled to a car where a male accomplice was waiting, Harrison District Cmdr. Eric Washington said. A struggle broke out when the woman was inside the car and, at one point, the woman tried to grab the officer's gun, according to Washington. The officer then shot the woman in the abdomen.

Amazingly if you look at the report on CBS's web-site they make it sound like the officer shot at the offender just because she was trying to get away. There was no mention of her reaching for his gun...NOTHING.
Really makes me want to boycott CBS due to their shoddy coverage! (who am I kidding if I wasn't already out of town and in DC for Police Memorial Week I would never have relied on the news to give me information in the first place...after years it still amazes me how WRONG they always are!!!)

Dispatcher writes us a note and says thanks. She says she was hoping we were gonna take. She told us that she was watching our GPS.
Here is a valid point that no one ever writes about.
Why should the state pay for this piece of shits medical bill. She was in the process of comminting a crime and would have killed a police officer. "Hey Mr & Mrs Taxpayer", how much do you think that this Kaka-roaches medical bill is going to be? I would guess the tune of about $500,000 or $700,000, unfortunatly the tax payer will pay this bill. Why not have the criminal pay their own medical bills.
While we are at it, lets also start mandatory random drug testing of all family members, if one fails, the family is eliminated from any kind of public aid.

Friday night I reluctantly took my family to Rain Forest Cafe downtown. As we were waiting for the valet to pull up my car, my family was saying how they forget how nice Chicago was. We drove around the north michigan avenue area because the weather was beautiful, and again they repeated that comment that made me sick.
Now I read this crap, and my fears were true, that going to the supposed most safe and most tourist part of Chicago, my kid could have been shot waiting for the valet outside a "family" restaurant in the heart of Chicago? FU MAYOR RICHARD M DALEY.

It is shocking that in all of the discussion about this few people are mentioning that she was doggedly determined to drive that car away. On a busy Saturday afternoon in Chicago (esp. with all those clueless Mag Mile jaywalkers) she WOULD have killed someone.

Off the toppic: A quick story about 016 midnights. Last night I called the 016 desk to report a noise disturbanc in my neighborhood. I spoke to officer Ahern who was very helpful. After about 50 minutes the beat car that was assigned 1611 1st watch never responds. Again I call 016 desk and speak to Ahern. She tells me the car was already there. I tell her no it wasn't because I was waiting for them. She tells me they are re-assigned the job and are on their way. Again they never show up. DOG ASSES ON 1611. But see I'm not so mad that they didnt show up for a noise disturbance, I'm mad because it had me thinking, what if i really needed the police? In my 20 yrs on this job I never not responed to a job . That's unbelievable! Please someone from 016 post who was working 1611 1st watch for 10 May. This time I'm not letting this go and want to speak to them personally, not beef on them.
The Officers should get an attorney and sue that Bi*ch. You know that this FU city will give her a ton of money so why not get their share. They were hurt by her. We should all start doing this and maybe then we could afford to live in this over priced CITY!!!!!
I made an interesting and, I believe, importation observation while watching the news regarding this story on the internet.
Refreshingly, all the people that were interviewed (on the Mag Mile) were supportive of the police. All their stories seemed to match the police reports and they were all remarkably high functioning enough as a group on onlookers that they became suspicious of a bystander in the crowd who was asking about the offender and THEN (Oh My God) even pointed that person out to police.
However, we all know what happens when this type of thing happens in the neighborhood. People would have had thirty different stories, all condemning the police and the offender would have been a victim.
NOTE TO DALEY, PFLEGER, JACKSON, AND THE NEWS MEDIA. This is how the MAJORITY of law abiding tax paying citizens think and behave. Responsible citizens want responsible government and media.
Responsible people want LAW AND ORDER.

Office, I agree with most of what you said, except the latter part; "WE ARE THE LAW". No sir, WE ARE NOT THE LAW. We are law enforcement officers and don't let our badge, gun and authority get to your head.
We enforce the law and God forbid if an offender tries to kill us, hurt us, disarm us, etc... then we have the legal and MORAL AUTHORITY TO USE DEADLY FORCE. In the end, we are the good guys, we have a conscience and we are not in the business of shooting someone because we can and get away with it. We are the exact opposite of what this woman and her criminal cohort represent.

She was on her way to her son's graduation as top man in his class at Roosevelt U. with her husband of 45 years and was surrounded by al 37 grandchildren when the polices jumped out from behind the Rolls Royce and gunned her durown. That's OK though cause the almost grad who was bout to turnt his life round was killed by polices after he did a gang shooting last week. Sometimes things just don't go right like stealing jewelry or a policeman's gun.

The NBC5 website had the below quote in their story about the shooting in 018 yesterday and at first I spouted off about how it made the officer sound like a weakling. However, my girlfriend pointed out that it actually makes the officer sound caring and human.

Heard this on WBBM AM Sunday morning. The story they reported was that an officer shot a woman in a car with no mention that the woman was attempting to gain control of the officers weapon.

Hey, your kid could get shot in your own living room. The odds of it happening are somewhat different say in Englewood than at Chestnut and Michigan Ave.
I can say without seeing it that the person shot has a rap sheet with numerous serious charges that were tossed out or for which she received supervision of probation after probation. You know, the "this time we really mean it" probation.
If she had been incarcerated many crimes ago she would not have been so tempted to do her thing on North Michigan ave.
Daley sucks, don't get me wrong, but there is very little in the way of true justice dispensed here in Cook County.
This was a case of justice served according to Rule 9. That's Rule 9 as in 9mm or Rule 45 as in .45 cal.

The best part of this story is this is one of the first times any and all of the witnesses DO NOT have an IR number. Wow, working honest people and not a one of them was jumping up and down behind the news cameras throwing down gang signs.
This really was a news story with a happy ending.

Great job Officer! This is a little off topic, but extremely important. ASA David Navarro was removed months ago from his position in the Public Integrity Unit that indicted Suchocki and Sherry. He was removed because he would bring ridiculous charges against Officers to the Grand Jury, get the indictment,(of course) but would be unable to take these cases to trial. These charges were so trumped up that the Prosecution would NEVER be able to prove them in a court of law. Navarro turned the lives of many Officers upside down before these ridiculous charges would eventually be dropped. Anita Alvarez finally woke up to this and busted him down a couple of chairs. Navarro is now in a regular courtroom, so use extreme caution in dealing with him...he's a total cop hater and will screw you in a heartbeat. Another troublesome ASA is Romano DiBenedetto. He was handed a loss in the Jefferson Tap trial as he displayed the worst cross and direct examination that was ever brought into the building. DiBenedetto atttempted to get a copy of the recently released list of Officers' names and CR numbers. DiBenedetto vowed to get a copy and to prosecute as many Officers on the list as possible. DiBenedetto is often seen in drinking establishments well overserved. He then proceeds to get behind the wheel of his car and drive like a complete bunghole. This guy is an easy DUI most Fridays or Saturdays near Emmit's if anyone is in the area. He looks like a circus midget with a big head and black rimmed coke bottle glasses. FYI
Better her than the officer. How stupid, or stoned, does someone have to be to try to snatch an officer's gun?

Dave Navarro is NOT a cop hater. He was tasked with charging officers who did wrong. He won some and lost some. He was dumped because he and Anita Alvarez have a long running feud. Ask a few people in the State's Attorney's office about how Anita has been doing business: she's not exactly making any new friends, and she's taking a dump on many an old friend. Typical politician. She used everyone and is now doing what ever she wants. Many, many moves within the supervisory ranks there that never make the papers. Rumor is that many of the ex-CPD Investigators are planning on retiring due to her management changes.
Navarro. Punk bitch. Refused charges on an OBVIOUS hate crime against a gay commuter who was harassed then beaten up by white teens a few years back. Remember...and it is printed on the instructions to every RETENTION holster....this is not 'snatchproof". Suggested models are Safariland 6280 with the Sentry Lock, Safariland Raptor( a quad level retention holster)When they try to go for your gun,break their arm backwards like I did FIGHT LIKE HELL and leave them laying with Piece Number Two.Like the other poster said,practice and practice and practice some more. Remember when you buy a new holster to tighten the set screw so that the weapon does not fall out when the holster in inverted THEN loosen in SMALL INCRIMENTS until you have found your personal balance between retention and speed/ease of draw.
And NO I dont work for Safariland.I own several of their holsters however. All 9 of mine work flawlessly.

Remember the incident last summer when a severely mentally disturbed woman of color did suceed in snatching the officer's weapon and did in fact shoot him in the eye causing his death.
A security holster might have given the officer a few seconds to recover and save himself.
Officers, Give yourself every possible chance to survive an attack. Let shithead be the one lying on the street with bullets in him or her.
Too many revolver police still have old style cop-killer holsters and are afraid to spend a buck fifty to save their lives.
I personally know of at least 4 names on that wall who are there because of shitty old holsters.
And of course we can not depend on our department. Even after multiple line of duty deaths this cheapskate goddamn police department refuses to make security holsters mandatory for all officers because then they would have to buy one for those who don't already have them.
What costs more, a few thousand holsters or a line of duty death? How about 4 line of duty deaths? Still the department refuses to move to improve officer safety. Dollars come first. As always.

As this case and the case of the late John Francis represent, an offender may try to disarm you.
That is why I am going to buy a second weapon. Probably a baby glock that can be used off duty and it can be placed with an inside the belt holster underneath my duty belt. Thus if an offender tries to disarm me, I have a second surprise waiting for them.

Off the toppic: A quick story about 016 midnights. Last night I called the 016 desk to report a noise disturbanc in my neighborhood. I spoke to officer Ahern who was very helpful. After about 50 minutes the beat car that was assigned 1611 1st watch never responds. Again I call 016 desk and speak to Ahern. She tells me the car was already there. I tell her no it wasn't because I was waiting for them. She tells me they are re-assigned the job and are on their way. Again they never show up. DOG ASSES ON 1611. The NBC5 website had the below quote in their story about the shooting in 018 yesterday and at first I spouted off about how it made the officer sound like a weakling. However, my girlfriend pointed out that it actually makes the officer sound caring and human.

How many times do we, the working police of the Chicago Police Department deal with GARBAGE like this "victim"? Too many times. Too many times,they mame, rape,drug out,kill, and hurt people and ESCAPE JUSTICE because of Liberal Judges and ASA.
