Homicides Drop
Yay:
- Homicides dropped 20 percent in Chicago for the first four months of 2009 compared to the same period a year earlier, according to preliminary statistics released Friday.
There were 108 homicides through April, 26 fewer than for the same period in 2008, officials said. Violent crime dropped 2.8 percent and property crime fell almost 10 percent, police officials said.
20% is significant - it sounds good. 26 less isn't as impressive - an no mention of Aggravated Batteries with handguns, which climbed quite a bit. Bad shots and good doctors are saving a lot of people who otherwise might have died.
So since we're doing such a great job, where's our great contract?

I believe I heard on CNN that CPS killings are up from 21 to 36 for the same time period.
if 26 is 20% then it is significant...yeah 26 doesnt sound like a lot but you have to compare the numbers...dont get me wrong i dont care how many there are there could be 500 every year but 20% even if it is only 26 comparatively it is a lot
Been said many times SCC the only reason for the drop,even though shootings are UP is because mediacl doctors are much better,at saving the worthless scumbags! If they died it would save the taxpayers multi-millions! Next time wait to call bambulance!! Are they still "reclassifying" homicides to death investigations? Just asking boss.
Lest we forget the ones that are still clinging to life in area hospitals awaiting the call from beyond.

Police Supt. Jody Weis credited his officers' work with schools and specialized units focusing on gangs, guns and drugs for the decreases.Seems J-Fed forgot to thank Mother Nature for all the wonderful extreme cold weather in the first four months of the year, scumbags don't like the winter either.

you know what scc... why knock it.. sure we may dislike jfed, hate and despise the mayor, and not have a contract, but if homicides are down from police work then im proud of that.. im so tired of these guys wishing and hoping that our city burns... dont forget, you want the city to burn because of daley and that we dont get the olympics, but i was born, raised and have to live in this city... i take pride that crime is down... who cares about agg batts, homicides, violent and property crime is down.. im tired of the bitterness.. i hate the community, reverends, mayor and gold stars but i love being the chicago police, what it stands for, and the history of the department... cut out the bitter nonsense.. you know once we get a contract and one day when weiss and daley are gone the guys on the "work slow down" still arent gonna do crap and are gonna find something new to complain about.. pathetic.. take some pride in your profession, grit your teeth during these hard times and take it like a man.. we will outlast them, always have, always will.

I know for a fact that several homicides hace been coded 5084's and even 5000's.
Someone is playing a numbers game with the ucr codes.
It's called "a lack of good weather". Once it warms up, it'll really heat up out there.
Agg Batteries are still up. it is still raining every other day. doctor's are getting quicker and better at saving people. i talked to a crime lab guy who has some 30 odd years on. he said shootings are just about the same, the hospitals are just better at their jobs. wait till we have a dry spell, temps in the 90s during the day and 70-80s at night. it will come and you will see how bad it really is out there. i still believe we will see 500 this year.
I believe these numbers just as much as I believe the economic numbers...

The whole fucking city is getting very ghetto. Get used to it. We're all stuck in this toilet with the floating shit and we're all going to get flushed right down with it unless you can retire and get the hell out ASAP.
Obviously, Will Co. prosecutor James Glascow and the state police are desperate. It's a crying shame that they must keep harassing an apparently innocent man. With the staged for TV cameras "perp walk" and no case, they have made this three-ring circus into a national disgrace.
Either put a solid case on Mr. Peterson or leave him alone. I can no longer tolerate living in a state that is the laughingstock of the nation.

How does a CPS student that has not been to school since October, was released from school records in November by CPS regulation, shot in May and classified as a CPS student? This is a crock of shit!

You should have seen the percentages out a few weeks ago. Every Area D.D. was over 100% in clear-ups in 0110 and 041A. Yeah, well, after you factor in CCX's and the like. And, on a side note, FRU has been absolutely atrocious this year. A.S.A. Fabio Valentini has got to go. FRU has no intention of approving any murder cases these days and the ASA's that come out are very disinterested. They don't want to log witnesses or even get their toes wet in your case. They'll burn an ERI like a Mo-Fo and scadaddle out the door. Ask around your local V.C. Office how laughable it has become.
