- In this new era of skyrocketing meter rates, at least one man found a way to park his car for hours in a traffic-clogged neighborhood without having to spend a pocketful of quarters.
Should it surprise longtime observers of Chicago politics that this guy works for a City Council member?
Zodak Yonan, an aide to Ald. Thomas Tunney, infuriated neighbors in Lakeview by parking at an expired meter thanks to an "Official 44th Ward Business" placard he displayed on the dashboard. - Asked about the placard behind his car's windshield, Yonan replied that he did not think he had done anything wrong.
"Nobody gave it to me. I made it," he told the Tribune. "I've worked for the alderman's office for 25 years. We're so busy in the office, sometimes you forget to put the money in. The sign is there for the meter maids to know. There's no problem with that."
He backpedals later, but seriously, this would alleviate a lot of the parking problems at Cubs games, downtown events, and various venues on the north, south and west sides. Just make up a cool sign with a city seal - who's going to check? If you don't keep parking in the same spot like this moron did, how are the neighbors going to catch you?
We just don't know why we didn't think of it earlier like someone else did with the high quality copies of city stickers they were selling for $10 on the south and west sides a year or two back, all with the same serial number. We loved ticketing those.

OT: Drove through Beverly this morning for the Beverly Breast Cancer walk. Shocked to see potholes up and down almost every street. Some of them were seven or eight inches deep. One street looked like someone had exploded bombs on it. I couldn't believe how much the area has been allowed to deteriorate!

Any negative attention about Tunney & his crew is great news! He is the same Alderman who got ticketed for driving while talking on his cell phone and instead of taking responsibility and paid the fine... cried like a little baby and got the 23rd District Commander to have his drivers license hand delivered back to his office. Same Alderman who referred to men arrested for having blatant sex in a PUBLIC park were "victims" and that Police had better priorities then to arrest people who have sex in view of men, women and children enjoying our beautiful lakefront. He is the same Alderman who "unofficially" transferred a 23rd district gay P.O. out of the district who executed many quality & positive search warrants on crystal meth dealers in the community. Perhaps he needs to step down in his next election and concentrate on all the restaurants he currently owns.

Yesterday, Sunday morning I was in front of St. Jude Church on 18th and Ashland. I drove an elderly man who was ill. I pull up to a place in the side walk were there was no curb, and it was a legal place to park. Someone from the church with a security hat on told us we had to move. It just about 5 minutes I found out why. Seems as though Father Brennan of the church, had to drive up his brand spankin new SUV! I wonder how much that baby cost. He parked on the sidewalk in front of the church. I guess GOD created him a space were people usually walk on the side walk which anyone would know is totally illegal. Where is PAM when you need her? Clergy abusing/not obeying the law as we peons have to.
Honestly, I know what the problem IS. Father Brennan is a young priest and is one of the Big leaders in the PRO-ILLEGAL alien Pro-Open Borders Chicago movement, leading his flock into the depths of Marxist Liberation Theology.
See he has been saying NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL for so long, he now belives NO PARKING SPACE IS ILLEGAL.

I remember back when i lived in chicago. there was a little decal some people had that they got that gave them a pass on parking tickets.

He is taking a cue from Chicago politicians and Chicago Police Department bosses: Do as I say, not as I do.
When did we last have a leader either political or on the CPD who could honestly say "Do what I do" and that person would be worthy of following?
Hasn't happened in my memory in many years.
Why ticket anyone anymore? Let them all slide. I will be happy to make a placard on Photoshop and display it proudly whenever I'm downtown!
This is what the city gets for ripping everyone off. They get cheated, and vandalized. GOOD. I'm surprised more of those meters aren't filled with Gorilla Glue. You know it expands if you squirt in a little water, right? :)

I work in that same neighborhood and i have to stop working to go feed the meters..and if i dont i end up $50 in the hole. Fuck Tunney and his office help. Pickin up trash and acting the part from his aldercreatures office to his shitty restaurant doesn't make up for the bullshit he has brought to that neighborhood..
I believe that's not only theft or city revenue but also theft by deception.

The best part was him freely admitting that the sign was there to keep the meter maids at bay. I guarantee if any copper tried this move, we'd be plastered all over the news for about a week.
Double standard yet again. Maybe Tunney can provide some of his 100K-plus salary to Yonan in the form of rolls of quarters to avoid any possible future parking embarassments.

Alderman Bernie Hansen asked Tunney to let Yonan keep his job when Hansen retired. Yonan is about 80 years old and is a senile pain in the ass!! I have dealt with him on many occassions where he demanded special treatment because he works for the Alderman. Tunney should have followed his insticts years ago and fired that old time bomb!
I don't think what the guy did is right, but what the Trib left out is that the guy is about 80 years old and works a minimal amount of hours. I live on that block and have never complained about the guy, but then, I pay to park in a garage.

They tried to enforce that a few years ago. I remember at roll call we were told that the department is getting tired of it's cars getting damaged because coppers would park just about anywhere when they got a job. So we were told that we are to look for a LEGAL parking spot on every job.

i don't live in TUNNEY's ward, and have never voted for him. but i will tell you that whenever I have gone into his office, his staff has always been very helpful dealing with police/citizen issues.
If Yonan is Tunney’s bag man I am sure he does get mighty busy. Tunney is the personification of corruption and the hand picked by Daley himself.

speaking of parking nonsense in the 44th ward, what is up with all the people who use garage curb cuts as parking spaces?
I can't park my car in my parkway, so why is it legal for these folks to do it, often blocking a good chunk of the sidewalk, and worse, limiting visibility to those coming out of alleys. Will CPD ticket if a complaint is phoned into 311 or 911?
Tunney is a stroke and every commander in 023 has been afraid of him because of his alternative lifestyle. BT 5300 included!!!!!!
