Bittersweet Event

Officer Alejandro Valadez became a father on 09 September 2009 at 0019 hours.

Alejandro Valadez Jr. arrived weighing 7.5 pounds. Both mother and son are reported to be doing well.

Officer Valadez died in the Line of Duty 01 June 2009 and never got to meet his son. Alex Jr. will only know his father through photographs, maybe some videos, and through co-workers who maintain the fragile bonds we build over a lifetime.

Congratulations, prayers and well wishes only in this thread.

No matter what is going on with the world, let alone the department,
That boy should NEVER want for anything.
He should never have to worry about a bully.
He should know that his father was a true HERO and his life should be content.

The daily bulletin has "Always Remembered" and we as a group should remember and the blessing that his mother and P.O. Valadez recieved ahould know the old ways of taking care of our own.

A baby is a beautiful beginning. However, my heart is truly broken because he will never meet his brave, amazing father who gave his life for a city that didn't treat him all that well. My thoughts and continued prayers for this young mother and her beautiful baby.

To Alex's widow...It's hard to know why bad things happen to good people but stay strong honey. Keep your mom close by and don't be too proud to ask for help if you need it. You just brought a bundle of light into this world. Pour all your love into that baby and time will take care of the rest. I know. I've been through it. It will get better.

I pray that 22-23 years from now, when little Alex Jr. is fresh out of college with a Bachelors Degree, he honors his fathers legacy by becoming a doctor or lawyer or astronaut or something.

While we have entered one of life's most honorable professions, his mom has suffered once in losing Alex Sr. and deserves to not have to worry each day as her son goes off to make his own mark in the world!

Perhaps Alejandro Valadez Jr. for Mayor of Chicago, 2041!

Welcome to planet Earth little Alex Jr. Make your Daddy proud!

We..as a Police Family..have events all the time. When the Chicago Enforcers play...we pick up Alex...when the anual Fishing event takes place through FOP...we pick Alex up...Easter Egg Hunt...Christmas Parties...everything that happens, we bring Alex...should be on the top of the list, along with the other Children of our Brothers and Sisters who have had their lives taken. I got an instant tear in my eye when someone wrote..."Take my car for your first date...damn...what a Beautiful thought...we have Great Hearts in this Department.

Being a father of three kids, this breaks my heart. I hope baby Alex gets to read these posts someday.
People usually speak well of those who have passed but, all the nice things they are saying about your dad are more than just common courtesy. He was a great guy. I especially enjoyed his sense of humor and I thoroughly respected his work ethic. God bless you and your mom. I am sure your dad is mighty proud.

On 12 Nov 2009, the Horseshoe Casino is hosting a casino night to benefit his Christina and his son. It will be in the Venue on the 2nd Floor in a separate room above the casino. The set up will be like a casino night. They will have Blackjack, craps and roulette tables set up in there. There will also be a Texas Hold'em poker tournament, with a 1st place prize of a 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event seat ($10,000 value). Food and beer will be included. Coincidently, the Bears are playing Thursday night football against the 49ers, so they will have the game on their huge screens all night. The cost to get in is $25.00, which again includes the food and draft beer. To play in the poker tournament will be $100.00 but that includes the entry fee into the venue. During the next 2 months we are selling raffle tickets for $20.00 each. All prizes raffled off will be a 3day, 2night trip to Vegas with the winners choice of Hotel. We will be giving away 2 trips for every 500 tickets sold. The hope is to sell 5000. This is where I am asking for your help and agree to sell 25 raffle tickets to support the benefit. Please let me know asap if you are willing to help to make it a successful benefit. Feel free to e-mail (charles.artz@chicagopolice.org) Any messages will be responded to and thank you for your support. Also if you know of any poker players that are interested in playing in the tournament let me know as the tickets will be pre-sold and are limited to 500.

Gave his life for this city... that should tell us all something. This city, not who's in charge of it. Alejandro was a hero: he sacrificed everything while getting little in return, and getting no respect from this city or the people he served.

God bless Alejandro Valadez Jr, may he not want for anything.

how about a promotion for mom and an inside gig so she will never have to work the streets again--- imagine if mom got busted up while working in patrol--- i'm sure she is brave and would not want this special attention but you have to look out for the unknown--- remember the "FIGHTING SULLIVANS", if the military can do it, we can do it---

You're right SCC,this is a bittersweet moment. I feel a sense of joy at the birth of little Alejandro Jr. And sorrow for the loss of our brother Alejandro Sr. He is now part of our CPD family. As someone else posted previously,"he should not want for anything." I will gladly contribute generously to any fundraiser on his behalf.I also agree his mom should be given less hazardous duty in a unit somewhwere with normal hours so that she can spend as much time as possible raising him properly. We all know what a toll this job can have on our family life. His family has given this city and this department enough. It's time both gave something back.

When a family member of mine died, several friends passed around a notebook and each told a FUNNY story on a page. It was several years ago and we still treasure it. Just an idea as I didn't know Alex and couldn't participate.

As I read these posts, I am filled with both happiness and sadness. It makes me so proud to hear the wonderful things said about my brother and the well wishes for my nephew. On behalf of the Valadez family, please know that we thank each and every one of you for your support and prayers. The last three months have been the worst but the overwhelming amount of support has really helped us. A mere thank you seems so insignificant for the gratitude that we feel for all that has been done and will continue to be done for our precious angel! He is brining back the happiness that we lost on June 1st. It breaks my heart to know that my brother never got to see his son... hold his son... kiss his son! Children are God's greatest gift to us. When it comes to your children, please do not take anything for granted. Hold your child, kiss your child, tell them that you love them!

God bless you.
