No Money for a Raise...

  • The Daley administration is coughing up an additional $10 million to entice the parent of United Airlines to move its operations center downtown from the northwest suburbs, boosting the total subsidy to nearly $36 million.

A $10-million grant comes on top of a tax-increment financing (TIF) subsidy of roughly $25 million that city officials disclosed earlier this month when they announced UAL Corp.’s decision to move 2,500 jobs from Elk Grove Township to Willis Tower, 233 S. Wacker Drive.

“The overall package offered by the city was critical to our decision,” a United spokeswoman says.

The total subsidy amounts to nearly $14,400 per job, according to a report on the TIF deal by the city’s Department of Community Development.

$14,400 per 2,500 jobs for United Airlines.

$25,000 per 1,200 CPS students to predict when they'll be shot.

But for 10,000 cops who traditionally have gotten 3.5% annually (which works out to between $1,400 and $2,400 a year depending on step increments), Shortshanks pleads poor and broke. And that 3.5% doesn't even take into consideration the givebacks typically associated with our last few contracts. It makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. How about you?

Thanks for staying on top of this stuff SCC.

I'm working 3 different jobs to try to support my family. It's just sick to think that after all we do we aren't worthy of a raise.
The worst economic downturn in decades and the worst unemployment rates in a long time and yet the cpd was able to reduce almost all crime this year. But that's not worthy enough for a raise.

Never forget this lying bastard, never forget...

April 3, 2009
Chicago Sun-Times

Daley: I didn't take police raise off table, they did

BY FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter

Mayor Daley today engaged in a bit of revisionist history to explain away the event that triggered a massive demonstration by Chicago Police officers that turned ugly.

Chanting, “Daley sucks,” thousands of officers vented their anger about the mayor’s decision to withdraw his offer of a 16.1 percent pay raise over five years amid declining city revenue.

When the Chicago Sun-Times disclosed the dramatic turn in negotiations, a mayoral confidante argued that Chicago taxpayers could no longer afford the
offer after a quarter the advisor characterized as “the worst since the Great Depression.”

“The only responsible thing to do is to reconstruct [the deal] to accommodate the new fiscal reality,” the source said.

Daley agreed that, “We’re in a serious economic crisis. ...Taxpayers are feeling the pinch.”
Today, the mayor changed his story — by pointing fingers at the union.

“In all fairness, I did not take this off the table. They took it off the table. Let’s set the record straight so you understand that,” Daley said after launching the annual Spring Clean program at Harper High School, 6520 S. Wood.

“I did not take the 16 percent away. The 16 percent away was taken by the union. They said that was not enough. Take it off the table.”
---

Don't forget what this lying thieving prick has done, the next Mayoral Election will be in February 2011

When you are out there working Special Employment or you are at your second or third job and the tuition bill from that private school is coming due and you are a little short, again, DO NOT FORGET!

DO NOT FORGET who dragged this contract out well into our third year and no doubt it will be in it's fourth year by time it is settled, DO NOT FORGET, it was Richard M. Daley who did it.

No one else.

Don't forget, February 2011!

FLSA UPDATE 09/10/09

On September 3, 2009, the FOP received a letter from MLAS Commander Donald O'Neill. In it, the Department announced that it would pay out all accumulated FLSA comp time hours and no longer allow FLSA comp time to accrue for any officer. This action will affect approximately 160 sworn officers that currently have FLSA comp time. Most officers have other compensatory time that is not controlled by the FLSA. In response to the Departments action, the Lodge attempted to stop the payout process in federal court. Judge Schenkier considered the matter and ruled that the issue did not violate the FLSA, but should be addressed by the grievance procedure and/or an unfair labor practice. Lodge #7 filed an unfair labor practice report today at the Illinois Labor Board claiming that the City refused to bargain before implementing the change. We also filed a class action grievance for all affected officers demanding that their FLSA comp time be restored and the Department be ordered to maintain a legally compliant scheme for using FLSA compensatory time. We will keep you posted with any new developments on the subject.

Someone please explain this??

The City is trying to do an end run around the entire lawsuit the FOP filed, and WON, regarding FLSA time and the denial of time due to officers.

The City lost and so far have refused the judge's orders to bargain a workable settlement in good faith. The city is now trying to impose it's own settlement by defining the federal FLSA work rules as they see fit and implementing whatever new work rules it wants. Typical.

This is the same City that wants you to go out there and be "warriors" and to put yourself out in this time of supposed fiscal crisis.

Simply it is Daley's minions doing whatever the fuck they want, federal laws be damned.

I swear, if that miserable despot Daley is ever indicted by the Fed, I will take my wife out dancing and buy her a new dress and new shoes to boot! I will declare Daley's indictment Day a Holy Day of Obligation in my house and order my entire family to accompany me to church to attend mass and I will give thanks for on that day I will know that God has truly heard my prayers.
