We heard that if one district on the zone has an alternative work schedule, the other district not on the schedule will be switched for next year.
We also heard the D-unit is going to one of the pilot programs.
What we haven't heard is any official word.

yes the sister districts on a zone will go to the same pilot schedule as of 1st period next year.
No big deal, my wife and three kids can adjust to whatever schedule da city deems fit. All I ask for is a couple days notice!

Overheard some bosses talkin at HQ 4 on-2off might be the way they go. I know A5 is already doin it in the D-unit.
It's official in 1st Dist. We go to 4 on 2 off just like 18th Dist. starting first period.
011th dist, which shares a zone with the 010th district, is supposedly going to 10hr days for the rapids starting jan 2010. Start times may vary but hear it will most likely be 5p-3a. Must bid to this watch or filled by reverse seniority.
I do know that A-5 Detectives just went tot he 9-hr. 4/2 schedule.
F*ck That!!! I'm so sick of working this 6 straight day schedule we got then waiting a month and a half for our weekends. It just f*cking blows. Please work for a different schedule for all of us!
The usual retort i hear is "just bid to a district with schedule you want." But there are never any bids open anymore to any of those districts! Also, some don't have the time to make bids or can't/don't want to travel to the southside to be able to get a better schedule.
i hear 015, 025, 003, 009, and 001 are getting 4-2 schedule. some bickering downtown for it going citywide. have to blow more smoke up Jody's ass 1st. Make him look like a good guy and we will love him. what b.s. nothing can make us like him. but keep on blowing that smoke.

If you got kids, school or a side job or court in the moring have fun working til 3 am getting only 3 or 4 hours of sleep!
The 10hr sched. makes it real difficult if you have young children and a working spouse.

The 3rd watch hrs suck for single and married alike. 16/02 if you are special in some way and 17/03 for no clout men.
The days off are nice but you earn them.
I would like to try 6/3 or move 3/w hrs up 2 to cover school dissmissals.

Why the hell are they being so cautious in removing a schedule (current 6+2) that everyone agrees sucks? We all know what shortend lives etc., the schedule we now work causes, yet they are s o v e r y s l o w l y moving away from it as if to leave the miserable vestiges of the past is in any way a bad thing.
There are dinosaurs who claim going around the clock is still the way to go. Jesus, when we went to straight shifts I was one grateful person. Going to midnights every third 28 days was terrible yet there were those who did not want change.
This is not in any way to be confused with a progressive police department. I've been waiting over 25 years to get on a better schedule and now we are tippy toeing into 6-3 or 4-2. Jesus, aren't the bosses brave and intelligent. In another 5 years they might expand the program to an entire area. I'll be gone by then however.
And the number reason given for keeping the status quo, no matter how bad it was: "That's the way we've always done it." Real progressive thinking. If anyone ever had an original idea on this department they manage to keep it to themselves in their rush to blurt out "yeah boss, anything you say boss."

I'm in 018, been on the 4 & 2 since 1st period. its true 001 will join us. You are going to love it. I have 19 yrs on. came on and we were still rotating around the clock. thats right you newbies everyone worked midnights!!!!!!but anyway, back to the schedule. Working four days 9 hrs or 8 and a half is the way to go.. your work week goes so fast...and to those who bitch "but we lose the three day weekend" bid to a dist that still works the 6 on 2off bullshit!! add a day off every once in awhile!!! But seriously kids, this is the way to go. The whole dept. should do it. it is the best of the pilots. 10 hour days blow for familys! to quote a famous somebody, "try it you'll like it!"
Seems as though we have been doing "pilot" programs for years. when will it be time to vote and pick the one we like best and go with that?
We don't have cars to put Officers in now. What will change with this schedule? Less help out there. That is the endgame of all these changes. This is a bad idea.

First off you are wrong! A P-Day is worth 10 hours it is a BFD that is only worth 8. I have well over 10 years on and the conversion to hours makes little to no difference with my V-days for furlough. If you work holidays you get 15 hours. There is more to life than a side job or some BS court case, the days off and weekends make it worth the headaches so that I get all that family time. That being said I would rather have a 4-2 work week cause that works out well for me and my family. Anything is better than the 6-2 but 6-3 isnt much better so I hope the city goes 4-2.

1. yes 10 for 10. On a 6 - 2 schedule when your weekend comes up, 1of 2, Vegas bound folks always put in for two days. Total 16 hours. On a 10 hour when one of your 3 weekends come up, you already have four days, you want that 5th day you burn one slip for 10 hours. Dumb ass do the math. You use less time because you have more time off. So baby is sleepy...The working police works those late arrest hours now and still make it to court.
2. If you have a corrupted heart well than yes all that crap you speak of will eat you up, for that see a therapist. beat your wife, drink your life away or better yet get indicted....
3. Like you go into a restaurant and sit down to eat.
4. I did the 10 hour work schedule. Was there a change in planning, yes but and the end of the day you spend more time off with your kids, family, and save a hell of alot of money on child care, or you just want to hang out at the bar and you have not enough time.

It's time to tell these fucken idiots to go pound sand. If you worked a 10 hour schedule than let every one know how great it is.....
Area 5 is on the 4 on 2 off schedule arlready. Word is that Area 3 as well as the 025th District are going to follow it starting the 1st period.
People that work midnights will be screwed in the 4-2 schedule you will never get a three day weekend. 10 hour days is the best, you might lost 3 v-day because v-time turns to hours(same as the 9 hours days turn to hours) but you gain an extra 30 days off a year. The city doesn't want us to have the 10 hour days because it screws them over. The city makes out better with the 4-2 schedule.
022 is going to 10 hour days 1st period
If we take the 4-2 schedule you get an extra 16 days off a year but no three day weekends. The extra 16 days are going to be burnt trying to get an extended weekend. We will be better off taking the 10 hour days. If you have 20 v-days(6-2 schedule) you will get 17 v-days with the 4-2 and 16 with the 10 hour days. 10 hour days = more time off.
Didn't the AMA tell us about twenty years ago that making these constant schedule changes would shorten our lives? Why am I certain our ruthless mayor does this to save pension money? Is he dead yet?

We were told in 008 that we are keeping the 6-3 schedule thru 2010 at least. If 007, our fellow zone 6 partner, goes to 6-3, you'll love it, the 6 on sucks, but the 3 days off is outstanding, makes the 6 on not seem so bad.

The 10 hour days in 007 start at 1400 hrs. By the time they wait for a car, b.s. around the station, do the everyday station assignment they might actually hit the street by 1600 hrs or later. Dispatchers don't know they are out there so they are not called. They seem to love the new schedule.

Since the city says it is has no money for raises, how about a better work schedule.
How about 4 and 2 with 8 hr shifts?
Sure it is not 2,080 hrs, it would be about 15 days less of work, so in effect a tradeoff, no raise but a benefit to all.
These pilot programs all have flaws, the biggest being lack of cars with the overlappuing watches, and the overall confusion and lack of consistency in the dept.
"I heard" that the 3rd district will go to a 48 hours (2days) on and 120 hours (5 days) off, just to get people to bid back in. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...

If you add a day or two, it's like a baby furlough.
Have to add 1/2 hour to every BFD you use and VDays are converted into hours, which means you lose time.

Heard also mass transit and both airports going to 4 & 2, or 10 hour days as the commander is trying to help eliminate the barbaric 6&2 to improve quality of life for officers!
4 and 2? Does that schedule eliminate our 3-day weekends? If it does it will work out well for the City, you'll have to dip into your time to get a weekend. That should dwindle your time on the books so the City doesn't have to pay it out when you retire.

Yes but you get 51 (thats right 51) more days off a year! With more days off you easily get back those V-days. Take your V during your four 4-day weekends.

The fight continued until the 008th District arrived and placed all five in custody, two charged with Agg. Batt. to the Police and 3 charged with mob action. Copper had a trip to the emergency room for a possible scratched cornea and had taken multiple blows to his face and the back of his head.
The good commander of 008 put a “Just Cause” on the Latin Kings.
This is ridiculous where we have come in this city in regards to respect. The event culminated in the Copper being ha nded a CR# by the visiting Watch Commander (not from 008) because the piece of shits said they were just pissing in the alley and were attacked by the pajama wearing copper.
The probable cause hearing for these vermin is 13 Oct 09 in Br. 48-4. If you have the time please show up and support this copper as I’m sure friends of the Kings will be there.

i find it very odd that the person in charge of all the schedule changes has done NOTHING for the people of his own district. Seems so wierd to me. He knows we all hate the schedule we have, why not get us lumped in with the pilot districts?
I guess he's afraid that if it went south everyone would be blaming him. That's not the case, i'll try any of the pilot schedules just to get rid of what we got now. 6-2 sucks my dirty butt hole.

Personal days are worth the full tour in these schedules. Furloughs are done by hours

Area 2 will stay on 10 hours. They'll only change it if Daley manages to sell the south side to Indiana.
This is the FOP's concession to the city for its alleged 'budget shortfall'.
The FOP better tell the public that the police union has also 'given back' in the city's alleged 'time of need'.
Any time worked over 8 hours should be considered time & a half.
I hope everyone realizes this.

I work 10 on 3rd watch and there is so much wrong iformation hear it is sad. Personal days are 10 hours baby furlough days are 8. You don't lose any vacation time. In fact your vacations are longer if you pick correctly. If the only time you can make for yourself in a 10 hour day is lunch and 2 personels you in sorry shape.I go to ghetto domestics 52 less days a year with this schedule. I will agree it is tough getting up for court but you just man up and quit your crying.
The days off are great. The few people I have met who do not like the 10 are people that nothing could be done to make them happy. I worked the 6 days over 20 years you can have em.

I work in 008 where we have the 6/3 schedule. Although it is still a 6 day work week, the extra day off is great. Every week you have a 3 day "weekend," and yes you get a piece of the weekend almost every week. Push for it!!!!

Where the hell are you getting this from? I work a ten hour schedual and it's great. It's a five day work week with three off, and when you hit your weekends its three consecutive four day weekends. If you burn a personal day or a bfd, its for the whole ten. No needing to drop a slip for two hours or whatever. That issue was resolved before the pilot even started. When a holiday rolls around you earn fifteen hours, and ten if you're rdo. Not so bad now isn't it?

I have a friend in the burbs that works a 10 shift and he loves it and he's a family man. I thought with the 10 hour you end up sometimes getting more 3 days off......How can that be a bad thing? All you underachievers better go for it, because I heard from good authority that the next pilot progran is going to consist of a 7 day, 11 hour work schedule with 3 days off. Tactical tip of the day:
If its slow out, drive around and stir up as many paper jobs as possible. A crackhead flags you down and tells you someone stolen his shoelaces? Get on the radio and give a flash message as if the Luftanza heist just went down, committed by the Reservoir Dogs. Then ask for a paper car and sit there/their with the offender until one arrives. Once a marked cruiser pulls up, then speed away. Trust me, it will be funny.
The Marine Unit is going to the Fire Departments hours of 1 on 3 off seeing that they work together on calls.
4-2 is the way to go in d.o.g 3 for 2009 you get 19 extra days off and the most anyone loses with furlo is 1.5 days when its converted to hours.you also work 30hours less for 09 as opposed to regular schedule.2065.5 hours for 4/2 and 2094 hours for reg schedule.This is for dog 3.ill post an exact conversion rate for other dog if i get a chance

Were told in Austin that 1st period its 4 on and 2 off. Day off group 7 gets eliminated. we'll work 16 less days a year but the hours per year are about the same. Also we hear that ALL of area 5 will be doing this.
Off topic how is it that lieutenant l who works in Aunt Bea's office spends all day everyday walking around talking on the phone and outside smoking and now there is a Sgt assigned to her office. Agreed that a new schedule is needed, but I'm on the four on, two off, schedule and I HATE it.
For those of us accustomed to three days off occasionally, it's hard to acclimate to just two. Using a LOT of personal time now to put together a three-day weekend for trips or fixing up the house.

Thanks for making sense. These young guys just don't understand how much they are going to be screwing us by giving us 10 hour days.
In the end the city will cause officers to use up all their time and we will be stuck working 10 hour days for nothing. I personally don't want to answer freakin calls for 8 hours let alone 10 hours. I don't give a crap about some carrot on a stick in the form of 2 days off. Big deal when my whole week, my sleep and my life is screwed with the changed hours.
These guys just salivate over the TWO days off. They don't realize that the city could give us 4 days at 8 hours with two days off and we could still rotate and still make the 40 hours for the week. Rue of thumb is that if the city is giving it to us, its not because they care, its because it is economically sound for them.
We are screwed. Kiss your time due and vacation time bye bye.

Jesus H. Christ, why are so many people obsessed with that precious three day weekend? It is only two weekends off every 6 weeks! So what? With 4-2 that is 16 extra days off a year, you'll live longer, you will NEVER have to work 6 in a row again!
If you want a three day weekend burn a day of time, big deal. Use your head on this, get it down to a science, make an arrest, go to traffic court, make a late traffic stop, there is your extra day for your precious three day weekend. You still get 13 paid holidays a year, if you used one for each weekend you want off that is 13 three day weekends a year with no change.
This much is for certain: any of the alternate schedules is worlds better than what we now have and the sooner we get to one of those the better.
In my humble opinion, every district should get to one of the alternate schedules for 2010 and let's see how that works out. My guess is 4-2 will work just fine for districts, 10 hour shifts for D-units and some combination for other units as needed.
Just let's please put the 6 and 2 right there in the dust bin of CPD history along with the old CC room, white stripes down the sides of the pants, wheel guns, call box keys and carbon paper. Uh, better wait a bit on the carbon paper thing, the CPD is single handedly keeping the carbon paper industry alive. Some young police officers never saw a piece of carbon paper till they came to the CPD.

The ten hour days give you an extra 52 days off a year. The four day weekends are great, and come very often. My family life has improved tremendously. I get way more time with my kids, soccer games and school plays. TEN HOUR DAYS ARE THE BOMB!!!! I hope it remains a choice for those who enjoy quality time with their family.
10 hours is the way to go you get three 4 day weekends then three 3 day weekends. Interspesed with that you get two 4 day work weeks. Add a day here or there and it is like a short furlough. Its great!!! I have did all year long and I actually feel like a real person. As for the ten hour day.... if you break it up with an occassional tvb or arrest it flies by. Even if u don't it is still better than the 4-2 or 6-2. 52 extra days a year is time you get to spend doing other things other than being in the ghetto. No brainer........

I hard a rumor that Ruth W was moved from the academy to R&D. Is that the response for the rule violations? Equal and fair discipline. WTF!
All these pilot schedules are fine and dandy, but don't forget your working furlo days are being converted to hours at an 8hr rate (200hrs for 25 days), instead of 25 days at an 8.5hr rate (212.5).So if you try to take an equivalent 25 working day furlo with pilot program you burn 212.5 hours but they only give you 200. The furlo conversion should be at the 8.5hr rate since it no longer is a pilot program. They keep 12.5hrs from every 25 wrk/day furlo, thats a lot of hours they are making and thats just on the 9hr day, how about the 10hr day schedule, they are just taking it back little by little.
Anything is better than 6 on 2 off. We all know how we feel on that 6th day. Don't want to do shit. Tempers are up, tolerance is down.
My district is not in any of the pilot programs right now. I can't say I'm a fan of the 10 hour work day. It's hard for kids (daycare) and even pets that you have to leave at home. Right now the 4 on 2 off sounds the best to me. Of course I haven't experienced ANY of the new options so I can't say for sure. But, let's say the whole city was to go to the 10 hr day for example. Would our p-days, v-days etc. be worth 10 hours then if it was uniform for everyone, or would they keep them at only 8 so we would still have to burn 2? Just curious.

I work the 10 hour schedule, this year I had two half segment fulroughs at 27 and 29 days respectively. Granted i get 25 working days which convert to hours, but your furloughs are much longer. This is in addition of 54 more days off per year. Stop focusing on the extra 2 hours, and look at the time off it's awesome
I hear that no matter what schedule dists are put on no actual police work will be allowed. only calls for service will continue and no arrest will be made with out a completed and signed complaint officially clerked by D Brown herself..

been working the 10 hour shift on first watch since Jan. and it's tough. days off are great but making it through those 5 day work weeks are a bear. Do not listen to anyone on 2nd watch who works the 10 hour shift cause lets face it... whats 2 extra hours in the middle of the day. The truth is first and third watch are getting screwed. If this schedule goes there has got to be shift differencial for working afternoons and midnights. I can't see someone making it for more than a couple of years on one of these shifts. Good luck and try not to crash the car.

fuck 2 days off??? Like the two days off we now get after working SIX DAYS IN A ROW is somehow better than working 4 days then 2 off?
I know higher math isn't on the police test but working 6 days in a row is more days working than working 4 days in a row. Take a breath, let that sink in. 6 is more than 4 by 50%.
Maybe you are right. Maybe the department should make a district that works the current and traditional 6 and 2 and people like you can go there. Maybe you can also go around the clock and switch watches each 28 days so you can have a watch party every 12 weeks.
It never ceases to amaze me how many block-headed individuals there are on this department.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but using the 4 on/2 off schedule, don't you still only get your weekends on the 5th and 6th week of the cycle and its not even a 3 day weekend? If thats the case that schedule still sucks!

I have worked the 6-2 for 5 years and I have worked the 4-2 2 years and I have worked the the 10.5 hour days for 3 years and honestly the 10.5 hour days are the best you basically get 3 - 3day weekends off and 3 - 4 day weekends off. Trust me it sucks to come in earlier but you get 3 - 4 day weekends you can burn a few days and get a baby furlough without using bf days. It was the best time in my life the 10.5 days I wish I could get to TRU for the hours but I would have to much time and they dont want people with time at TRU and mobile strike force those genius who run that want 2 year wonders that can control..... anyways the 10.5 is the best you can have trust me I know first hand.... You guys should really fight for it... Imagine having thurs, fri, sat, sun then fri, sat, sun, mon and then having sat, sun, mon, tues off wow! Amazing I know wake up people...

Anything is better than working 6 days in a row. If you work ot your first day or two back you are totally exhausted the last 4 days. I personnally prefer the 10 hour days.

I will not retire before my time young grasshopper. Seniority is great. You will see someday when you get a little. I don't need to wait till I move to Florida to laugh my ass off, I'm doing it now. My husband is on 10 the hour days....since he's not a cute blond, he's ALWAYS on the 5pm-3am car. By the time he gets home, settled, and in bed, it's 4am.
I need to be to work by 6-7 am. Let me tell you, child care is a nightmare! We have a toddler with another one on the way.
Although that extra day off and the longer weekends are nice, they still don't make up for the exhaustion he feels during the week. I don't want to hear about the rotating schedules or working midnights. Been there. Done that.
Besides, back in the day of rotating schedules, housing and Catholic schools were cheaper...and oh, yeah, wifey stayed at home with the kids. Thanks to this overpriced hell hole, it's necessary for both of us to work.
Bid out?! Yeah, unless you have on 15 yrs or more, you're stuck. Besides, what are you going to do? Transfer to another district that has an equally shitty schedule?!
We must have been out buying a city sticker or paying our over-priced real etsate taxes the day that the FOP called us to ask what we thought about these alternative schedules. I'll make sure we're at home when they call to ask what time to send over the babysitter.
People need to realize that the 10 hour housing schedule is the way to go, and push for it. Go ahead and count the days off we would get a month it's amazing. You average 17 days off a month; 17 DAYS!!! You can't beat that!! 6 days in a row needs to go that's the problem so 6-3 sucks.
I love the "I am retiring in Spring 2010 and won't have to put up with any more bullshit for the rest of my life schedule". LOL. LOL. LOL. LOL.
I will retire in 2010. It's a great feeling.
As someone else said, I would of given up a retro for 4 and 2 8 hour days. Again someone missed a chance when the City was in money trouble. Not to mention residency...

you go 3rd watch on 10 hours get ready to get screwed. your start time is pushed back 3 hours. If you are a late car you do 5 pm - 3 am. Imainge being in a RAP for 10 hours listening to ghetto domestics. You still only get 1/2 hr for lunch and 2 personals. On top of it Personal days only count for 8 hours, so u really want a P-day you need to burn 2 hours of your own. If you have 10 + years your V-Days get magically turned into hours. Guess what you lose 3 V-Days in the process! It's 10 for 10...if not more.
If you got kids, school or a side job or court in the moring have fun working til 3 am getting only 3 or 4 hours of sleep!

Where the hell are you getting this from? I work a ten hour schedual and it's great. It's a five day work week with three off, and when you hit your weekends its three consecutive four day weekends. If you burn a personal day or a bfd, its for the whole ten. No needing to drop a slip for two hours or whatever. That issue was resolved before the pilot even started. When a holiday rolls around you earn fifteen hours, and ten if you're rdo. Not so bad now isn't it?
As far as lunch and personals? Well learn to utilize them in a way that works for you. I can't tell you how little I would hear other PO's NOT use the personals that they are entitled to. They'd go the whole tour without using a single one and then bitch and moan that they are burned out. Fuckin use that damn things already!
And court? Well boo fucking hoo! I, along with countless others, worked midnights went to court with litte or no sleep at all. Don't write tickets or lock people up if you don't want to go to court. And working a side job actually is easier on this schedual. Quit your bitching Sally

Anybody complaining about the "loss" of the three day weekends, is a shortsighted blockhead.
You mean to tell me that for an extra day off every six weeks, it's worth it to work six days in a row? On the 4-2's we might not get three day weekends but WE ONLY WORK FOUR DAYS IN A ROW. So if I feel like burning 8.5hrs on my weekends (which I almost always opt to do) to make it three, so be it. So I make an occasional late arrest, go to court, to make those hours? So what? WE ONLY WORK FOUR DAYS IN A ROW. Your week is over before you even realize it started.
Why can some of you not understand it?
As far as the 10 hour days, it sounds okay in theory but those who work the watch in patrol are gonna have to work 10 for 10. A lot of guys who loved the original 10 hour days seem to have come from housing or some other unit, where I'd bet a month's salary, 10 for 10 was a joke.
I don't care if the city "makes out" better on the 4-2, I know that I make out MUCH better and have tons more free time since the switch. By the time my two days comes, I'm barely in stress overload mode. I like working one less day than anyone I know in the private sector who works 5 day workweeks. For the first time ever, we are in a better position than they are.
Heard that Ruth got a latteral change since she treated the boys & girls from the Academy to a Cubs game. Someone came looking for her & found out that everyone was at the game, ON COMPANY TIME, No Time Due Used!!! Isn't this called Theft. Comeon Jody & Mr Mayor do something besides Blow each other!! How about all having all 3 Alternate and Standard Schedules in each District/Area? Pick your shift, 10 hr; 4on & 2off, etc; along with your Watch, and furlo, once a year. If we had people in charge with intelligence, instead of just political clout, this could be done without too much difficulty. Same or more coverage.

Anyone who calls our uniform a clown suit is a complete JACKOff. DO you not recall the day that star was pinned on your uniform the first time. Take pride in what you do. Only a chosen few can say they have been the POLICE! We are special in thst our profession is unlike any other. We hold the lives of both the weak and the strong in our hands. There are still people out there that say Thank-you to us and respect and honor what we do. Why cant we feel the same way. Attend one fallen officers funeral and you cannot help but feel a sense of pride. Dont feel as if our uniform is a disgrace.
