Aldercreatures Talk Shit Again

  • Finance Committee Chairman Edward M. Burke (14th) agreed that there is “a lot of merit” to complaints about the raid on long-term reserves. But, he said, “Where is there a source of income big enough to fill the [$520 million] hole? There isn’t any. So we are in a hang-on mode. We have to hang on until things get better.”

That hole didn't make itself overnight Ed. It took years of mismanagement. And that "hang-on mode" you keep yapping about? We didn't notice you hanging on when you voted yourself a 6% raise and a 5% raise for your staffers and an increase in the aldermanic "discretionary" fund to $1.3 million that most of you seem to use to pay off family members, buy cars and rent office space in buildings you already own.
  • That won’t happen anytime soon, warned Ald. Pat O’Connor (40th), the mayor’s floor leader. This spring, taxpayers could face another body blow when an arbitrator rules on the new police contract.

“Next year, buckle up. I don’t care what happens to the economy between now and then. None of these indicators are gonna get back to a point where we don’t have to make more cuts and have more savings and have more debate on where we’re gonna find the money,” O’Connor said.

The teacher's contract was barely expired when they got 4% raises for four years. If the police and fire contracts had been settled as quickly, we wouldn't have been having any discussion whatsoever on any of this. But Daley insists on treating first responders like shit and then is surprised when they feel the tiniest bit of resentment at being asked to "sacrifice" in the face of spending sprees and aldermanic splurges, not to mention Shortshanks finding all sorts of cash to buy up Bensenville properties, fund construction projects, and increase the size of the handouts to certain leeches.

You aldercreatures want sacrifices?
  • With the Chicago Police Department already operating 2,000 officers-a-day short of authorized strength, the budget uses federal stimulus funds to add just 86 officers, 30 of them for the CTA.

That’s nowhere near enough hiring to solve a manpower shortage that Police Supt, Jody Weis fears will get dramatically worse when as many as 1,000 more officers retire next year.

They better hope that those unpaid salaries are the only sacrifice we end up making.

Did you notice no where in the budget does the 2000 short come into play. They are still budgeting for 13500 and have been for several years. The 2000 short didn't just happen it's about 3 or 4 years of attrition.

daleys pocket with the hole in it is $520,000,000.00 short. His right pocket is busting at the seams and he refuses to say how much is actually there. That's the pocket he uses for his "friends and relatives". It's quite obviously he doesn't consider the voters who put him in office as "friends". Don't think some last minute gesture of largesse (passing out free turkeys or hams) is gonna save your stingy ass when election time comes around. Where's The Beef ?????????

Try 450 detectives short. City budgets 1550 and we have 1100 according to CLEAR.

Now Bobby Rush is bitching about the 12 year old murder victim in Englewood not being a priority for a thorough investigation.

Well Mr. Rush why don't you go to the Mayor and ask him how this could be? The Detective Division is operating at about 71% and they have not made a class in 2 years.

---

Where do you get the money? from daley's TIF slush fund you disingenuous thief! Right there, right there in the many TIF funds YOU oversee as chairman of the finance committee you lying bastard.

There is enough in TIF funds to balance the budget every year until things improve.

Would the City take some of the TIF money and balance the budget and slow down how much they pass out to favored developers? Nooooo, they raid the savings account!

Miserable lying bastards, hundreds of millions in TIF funds sitting there and they instead use the funds from the sale of capital assets.

they probably will use that as an argument at arbitration too. Hopefully the FOP has their facts and figures straight so they can expose the City's lies for what they are.

Watch for howls of outrage big time if the arbitrator awards us even a moderate raise. Be prepared for the city council to vote it down and force the FOP to go to court to seek enforcement of the arbitrator's ruling. That seems to be the way it is going.

even the top police impersonator in the country, daley's high priced puppet j-fed, can see that manpower shortages in 2010 could become dangerously low... what are they going to do, deny time during the 6-9 periods when people want off... another issue is that many newer officers are actively looking for other employment and are not "lifers" because they can see the job going to shit and are trying to get out....

Do you realize that if Chicago had only twenty-five alderman, it would save close to 5 million a year. Maybe more! Time for some cuts in the alderman sector. They claim they work a part-time job, full-time, but they get full-time pay. I can do the math too. So, really, do we really need to have 50 part-timers?

The bottom line is; The mayor just does not respect or fear the police and fire fighters. The teachers union and education associations are powerful lobbiests in Springfield and give loads of cash to our representatives. And, they can STRIKE!! You cannot. thought you'd like this....
Later that year [1990] Mayor Daley announced that recycling would be offered to all low-density buildings inside a year—but through the Blue Bag program, which he promised would be "extremely convenient, environmentally sound, and the least expensive method to administer." City officials said it would cost about $13 million a year, plus start-up costs of $28 million to build four Materials Recycling and Recovery Facilities, where Streets and San trucks would dump their loads for sorting. The city would hire a private company to run the MRRFs (usually called "murfs"), and that company's workers would pull out the blue bags and any recyclable commodities they happened to see as the trash moved along conveyor belts. Other workers would take the recyclables to processors and haul the remaining trash in semis to private landfills, and the company would get to keep whatever money it made selling the commodities. Daley was apparently convinced this approach would work on the recommendation of officials with garbage giant Waste Management, which was then running a blue bag program in Omaha, Nebraska. (The mayor's brother, Bill Daley, was on the board of one of the company's subsidiaries.)

In October 1993 Mayor Daley announced that Waste Management had won the contract to build and run the MRRFs with a goal of diverting a minimum of 25 percent of the trash it picked up. He also announced that the costs of building the MRRFs—three on city property, one on Waste Management land—had more than doubled, to $60 million . . .

Waste Management's contract was up at the end of 2002, and the city put the deal up for bid. Allied Waste won the new contract, worth more than $128 million over three years. (Among the lobbyists Allied employed were a former Daley aide and Daniel Katalinic, who would plead guilty to mail fraud in 2005 because he'd helped trade city jobs for political favors when he worked for Streets and San and after he retired.) Waste Management did get a consolation prize: it wound up owning the taxpayer-financed MRRF on its property.

You know, people in the private sector forget this:

Years ago, when the economy was booming and private sector jobs were plentiful and the pay was high, police salaries remained as they are now - stagnant with small increases provided by contract over a span of several years. We still had to work side jobs, get court time, etc to come anywhere close to earning what people in the private sector were earning.

And now the economy has tanked, we have the same jobs with the same salaries (without a contract or small raise), we still have to work side jobs to afford to live in this ****hole of a city, and people are saying we should be happy to have jobs and the pay we're receiving?

Come on out here and deal with the crap we deal with on a daily basis. We earn every penny that we are paid and every penny that the city is stealing from us by crying poor and not giving us a contract.

It has nothing to do with a better union. it has everything to do with one simple word,"STRIKE!" The teachers along with every other dept. minus the CPD and CFD have the ability and option to strike, we do not. Garbage men threaten to strike, give them a contract. Why bother trying to settle when they know we have to show up to work. Wait several years, go to arbitration while collect interest on the last several years with NO penalty to the city. It's simple economics 101 and dickhead and crew know it.

Good to hear. And I am sure that as soon as the contract is resolved, and it WILL be resolved, you will ramp it up and really start earning your money.Or probably not, you will find another excuse to let the guy who sits next to you in roll call do the work. Because that's what happens you know. When you sit on a job or do the gas up, carwash, put air in the tire, I can't take the job squad cause I just got to my lunch location shit, someone else wearing that same uniform goes and does the job.

I know that I am going to get ripped for this, but this no revenue stuff. That means no writing tickets, right? I sure hope that the jagoff that you ignore that runs the light doesn't t-bone a relative of yours or another copper or an ambulance or firetruck.

OK my man, here is your rip. You and guys like you are why I came on the job. The men and women that are Police Officers first. You show up on our jobs, assist, crash the doors, stop the cars and patrol the streets with purpose.

You complain with the rest, maybe give them a parker or two less when they treat us like trash, but you are the Police when the call comes in.

There are, and always will be dogs on this job. Seems like we got more in the last ten years. They all are very vocal with the "no contract" I'm not working crap - but none of them were working anyway. Look at the numbers. They're not that bad across the
city.

We've had Superintendents we didn't respect before, and we never liked the Mayor. We have a contract, it's the old one we are working under and it's probably better than the one we are going to get. We are going to get retro or not. That's the only difference.

This is our City and the longer you let the mongrels roam, the harder it will be to put them back in the pen.
