False Personation

The Sun Times taps into parking ticket resentment, and since the police aren't writing nearly as many tickets as usual...:
  • The city's hunt to fill its cash-starved coffers has come to this: Some traffic-control aides -- those city employees in the fluorescent coats who help cars and pedestrians move through busy intersections -- are now writing parking tickets full time.

Given the furor over Mayor Daley's meter-privatization deal, it isn't a job where you make a lot of friends. And, in the case of one traffic-control worker, that has made her the subject of an investigation into whether she has been parking her personal car illegally as she tickets drivers in the South Loop.

Years ago, everyone knew about the M&M wrapper in the window that traffic control aides and others used to signal other revenue generators to leave their car alone. We don't know if they're still using it. But someone in the comments found something else that ought to be looked at:
  • In the Sun Times article, 7 Dec, about the TMA parking illegaly then writing tickets, look at the photo, pg3, of her car. She has an FOP member sticker and a Sgt. association sticker.
Maybe she needs to be locked up.
We know those stickers don't mean much to other TMAs from personal experience. That's why we always park legally lately and walk the four or more blocks to our destination when in our personal cars. It's also why we took all the stickers off. But those stickers are like magnets to the flies that are the media. And whoever owns that car ought to stop giving the media a slamdunk story to slam the police again.

UPDATE: Title corrected - sorry hippy-dippy-1...we were lit last night.

Ultimate Tactical Tip of the day #2563-9:

If worried about parking your vehicle illegally and don't want some ham-and- egger patrolman or some parking meter goose to gig you with tickets, make sure they know that you are the police.

I make sure they know by leaving ticket books on my dashboard (mover, parker, alarm, anov) along with my gold plated .45 Magnum in plain visibility.

The back of my pimped out silver, 6 cylinder Mustang has F.O.P. medallions and stickers along with a "Kill them all, let God sort'em out!" bumper sticker. If that's not enough, I have 5 checkered hat bands and two sets of hand cuffs, hanging from my rear-view mirror.

Another good idea is to tape copy's of your "honorable mentions" on the trunk, hood, and doors of your car.

If you do what I do, even the densest meter dame can figure out that not only are you a cop, but that you must work on a Delta Force team!

The good old days come back to me every once in a while. I recall the time when if you placed a Police Benevolent Society sticker on your car you would be given a pass . SCC,

First things first, we all know the FOP stickers and medallions are a dime a dozen these days and dont mean what they used to. Everyone including the shitheads have them.

Second, for those bitching about not being able to do anything about TMA's and any other non-police who display the stickers, here is a tool for the toolbox:

720 ILCS 5/17-2 False Personation

A person commits a false personation when he or she falsely represents himself or herself to be a member or representative of any veterans' or public safety personnel organization or a representative of any charitable organization, OR WHEN ANY PERSON EXHIBITS OR USES IN ANY MANNER ANY DECAL, BADGE OR INSIGNIA OF ANY CHARITABLE, PUBLIC SAFETY PERSONNEL, OR VETERANS' ORGANIZATION WHEN NOT AUTHORIZED TO DO SO BY THE CHARITABLE, PUBLIC SAFETY, OR VETERANS' ORGANIZATION.

False personation is a class C misdemeanor.

Now to make the case, you have to get a letter from the organization stating the person who you arrested is not a member of their organization but thats not hard especially if its the FOP.

So for those of you that still do some form of police work, if you come across some shithead or other asshole with an attitude and they have a medallion or any stickers representing the FOP or another police organization displayed anywhere on their vehicle, now you have something.

Sorry for the rant SCC, but it had to be said.

A suburban cop.

Come on SCC. I am disappointed in you. You usually have things straight before you publish, but "False Personification???" What might that be. Personification is a figure of speech meaning to attach human qualities to something inanimate or abstract. I don't know what to make of it when you put a "false" in front of it. Maybe you mean False personation, like False Personation of a Judicial Officer, which was a criminal offense, at least back in my day.

When the Traffic Aides worked out of the old Kraft Building (Unit 152, Loop Traffic), anyone with a parking ticket would phone upstairs (3rd floor) to Dept. of Revenue and speak with Supervisor Ms. *****, and the citation would be killed in the system.

I know what I can legally do while on duty and in uniform...and since I don't donate money to the city for a vehicle sticker, good luck finding a car to stalk and harass.

Let me remind you of the moron that Arrested that On Duty/in Uniform TMA... City lost that suit.
And I do believe that the Cop lost his job.

Oh...and don't joke.....I havn't seen a cop write an ANOV for Jaywalking or Riding a Bike on a Sidewalk (if over age 12). Otherwise no one would be doing it.

Love the Ultimate Tactical Warrior!

Off topic: Today while I was driving I saw a Streets and Sanitation black pick-up truck with the Official city emblem and Streets and San on the side driving down the street and get this it had Indiana license plates. What's this all about? Asked a city worker on the street later and he said the city is leasing car from someplace in Indiana now. WTF?

Would have been great if a copper ticketed the TMA's car while she was parked illegally and writing tickets. That picture would been a souvenier (sic) for all of us.

Check Ebay for your FOP stickers and medallions. There is always someone selling them on that site. No one ever enforces the law pertaining to same.

I make sure they know by leaving ticket books on my dashboard (mover, parker, alarm, anov) along with my gold plated .45 Magnum in plain visibility.
What the hell is a .45 Magnum?

12/08/2009 12:44:00 PM

The .45 Magnum is a "special" gun for "special" guys like UTW that take the Short Bus to work.

It's what he uses for protection while he's undercover in those antiques shops in 019 and 023, trolling for antique treasures, policing be damned!

Maybe the city is just following the good advice of folks on this blog, and doing their shopping outside Chicago/Cook County/State of Illinois.

When I was a TMA working Loop Detail I saw jaywalkers everywhere.
And I'd see units on 4wheelers and squad cars and even on Horse Back just wander on past them.
I would watch cyclists roll down the sidewalk Right past a parked squad car or right by 2 cop's on foot patrol or bike duty. And I would watch nothing happen.

Why only selective enforcement?

I get that morale is shot thanks to Shortshanks and his Ilk.
I get that J-Fed drives the uniforms crazy.

But I'm sorry....its Law Enforcement.

When you need a pinch that's a nice easy one. I go into the schools and get a list of students with their DOB's. Circle all the 12yr olds and check to see who rides a bike. The DAY a kid turns 13, WHAM! I'm on 'em. Happy Birthday mother fucker, get on the ground, you're under arrest, I mean, ANOV. See, like shootin' fish in a barrel.

I like Meter Maids a lot and I really appreciate them now more than ever especially with H1N1 going around. I never put any thought into who kept the parking meters so nice and clean and all the chrome polished and the area around the meter swept up and litter free. Duh? Did I think God did it or what? Now that I realize Meter Maids work day and night so we can enjoy the beauty of clean, fresh meters anytime we choose to take advantage of this hygenic gift, I've started washing my quarters at home to do my part helping Meter Maids everywhere.

All of this talk of meter maids, etc. reminds me of when Meter Maids first came into existence in Chicago. They wore a green skirt, jacket and cap and only wrote parking meter violations. They worked in the Bureay of Parking. The head of the bureau, whose name escapes me, had a uniform made for himself that was based on the maids uniforms, but loaded with gold braid, including a hat with "scrambled eggs" on the bill. There was a picture in the newspapers of him wearing it. I am pretty sure it was the last time he wore it. Our politicians have always been a strange bunch.
