Another wonderful story from the south side:
- Commander Carter has placed an order in the CO Book that all officers must check their Department e-mail at least 2 hours before they come to work to keep up with changing conditions in the 004th District.
First up, since this is a "requirement," that means the City has to provide "first issue." We'd like to try an Apple computer this time. Those PC's are kind of clunky at times.
Second, be sure that all you 004 District officers fill out your Time Due slips - requiring you to perform job related functions two hours before your start time is compensated at one-and-one-half times regular pay. Make us proud boys and girls!
Third, we will provide the first officer who gets us a copy of this order via e-mail two free beers at the tavern of their choice.
The over/under for the page containing this order being removed from the 004 District CO Book is 12 minutes following publication of this post. So somewhere around 0812 hours. Sooner if someone pages Carter first - we might have a new Burger Queen on our hands.

If this Commander actually ordered this reading of e-mails two hours before your scheduled tour of duty, that is a "Call Back" time due slip. "Call Backs" are worth four hours of overtime pay.
All this non-sense is the reason why the CPD started making such young exempt members. If a guy with 30 years of service was told he has to answer a Blackberry 24 hours a day, be woken up 5 times a night over non-sense and also have to put up with all the new department bullshit... Well there really wouldn't be too many exempt members left. When somebody only has 18 yrs on the job and can't retire, well then, they are a dog that is being told to fetched and retrieve the thrown stick over and over again.

My CIS manager (wife) has a block on all computers in our house which do not allow me to log onto any department or city websites while working at home. Additionally, Whenever I do log onto one of the company's (her) computers a large warning appears on the screen reminding me that the use of said computer for any purpose other than family related issues or personal entertainment is strictly forbidden. Any violation of this policy will be the subject of disciplinary action. Sorry commander, I won't be risking the roof over my head to comply with your asinine idea.

You can also deduct your home computer and Internet service.
FILL OUT THOSE OVERTIME SLIPS! make a copy of the computer screen when you log in (with time stamp)that proves you were working outside designated hours. Also, keep a copy of the order from the CO book to put with your overtime slip.
STOP WORKING FOR FREE WHEN YOU WORK THRU LUNCH!!! check your assigned time for lunch on the schedule and then when you are denied lunch because of a BACKLOG, note the time, get an event number, and FILL out an overtime slip for the missed lunch.
How can we keep giving them free work when they keep denying us our contract and raises that we have earned?? Think about your spouses and kids who are denied the benefits of the raises you have earned while Shortshanks dumps our tax money into TIF funds that only he controls.

I come to wrk, been doing this job for over 20 something yrs (blue shirt) and this new non-police command staff/bosses come in w absolutely no street experience n have no type of respect, acknowledgment for their subordinates or just respect for yrs. served out on the street. The "old days" was the ol "handle accordingly" mentality. Don't disturb the boss and go home on time if possible. We're all grown up/adults here, we don't need babysitting for the everyday day in day out occurrences of the daily "toils". Quit hiring non street experienced young/spoiled/"entitled" young people and start hiring the VETS and the "street" experienced educated people and this dept. will reap the benefits just like the old days!

This week I saw a Tv Show called, Stevan Segal, Deputy Sheriff. It was a "COPS" style program, with cameras following around Segal as he was on patrol.
Apparently he is a sheriffs deputy in Louisana, and hold the rank of Aux Deputy Chief.
He has two gold stars on his uniform.
Anyway I digress. The show is about him driving around his county, usually with a Captain or Colonel of police at the wheel of his shiny black Ford Excursion, he is followed by another shiny Excursion with a Sgt and a Lt, at the wheel. Together they all drive around the gang spots and mess with pookie. It is really funny to watch as I can imagine JEFED, BRUST, Masters and compamy riding around the "wes side" playing poooooleeeces!!!!

A land line, with no frills, is much better. If you do not answer, they cannot contact you. Turn off the ringer and erase the temptation to ever answer it! With a cell phone, especially with voice mail, etcetera, you are quite reachable.
The current department policy is rooted in the past when there was no such thing as a pager or a cell phone. All of our people were required to have a 24 hour telephone contact number and those were only available as a land line with no frills. In those days, society was conditioned to never, ever, ignore a ringing telephone, so there was an unspoken and unwritten assumption and inference that having a telephone line meant you could be contacted.
Working midnights, I had to have 2 land lines. The official number was left off the hook in the basement buried in a pillow, because a ringer shut-off was a very rare thing. The other number was only known to my parents, my spouse and my kids, to be used in an absolute emergency only. Everything else could wait until I had a little unbroken sleep. Occassionally, there would be a wrong number or a telemarketer, but, for the most part, it worked as well as could be expected with the available no-frills technology of the day.
Now, let me tell you about walking 8 miles to school in the snow with no shoes! Ha! I'll spare you the agony of hearing it!
I have know some really good police oficers who were promoted on merit. However, the vats majority have some clout. They take a pass fail test that only requires a 40% to pass. They are not required to take part II, and most of them do not. They have been told they will be merit promoted. Then, most of the merit promotees head on to specialized units or exempt rank. Truely, a gifted group of individuals ( including at least 3 lawyers that I know of). I have known many better police officers than myself who were never promoted. That does not make them stupid or lazy. I was lucky ( and after a lot of study) to get a few promotions. Now happy and retired.

While you are at it, can you give some true specific examples? Nope! And if you bid out of 004 last year, how do you have an opinion about 004 this year? You did say you bid out right after he came right? Also, if this isn't a personal issue that you have with him (the green devil called jealousy), why do you care? I am looking forward to furlough, not because of the Commander, not even becuase I am sick of midnights, it is because I am sick of not having a contract, dealing with BS everyday on the street that has nothing to do with the police and us taking the blame for everything wrong in this community. I don't think it is fair to judge our supervisors, us P.O.'s or our Commander. We are all doing what we can but the reality is if Daley, Obama and the rest of his cohorts would take the time and make these people get jobs, if they are getting assistance they make the parents responsible for the kids and if they are not in school and passing they don't get a check and make these aldermen who talk shit everyday and try and take money out our pockets, spend the menu money they get to better their fucking communities.
A contract with retro and at least a 3.5% raise every year is not much to ask, especially when the Aldermen got 6% and a million dollar increase in menu money!
I've worked all over the city but have been in 004 for almost 10 years now...if Burger King is so great why does he care about the most petty of things? And what has he done for morale or anybody else for that matter except his cronies?

Same disturbted poster with the same statements. We are just curious. Be specific, how about that. My partner and I are working right now and we tried to figure this one out. Sounds personal to me. Get help!
