It's My Fault...

  • Mayor Daley today dumped the chief of staff responsible for the parking meter fiasco and installed 911 center chief Ray Orozco to take his place.

Daley hedged when asked whether Paul Volpe’s demotion — to budget director for the CTA — had anything to do with the disastrous transition to private control of Chicago’s 36,000 parking meters.

Nothing like having a fall guy right there willing to leap in front of that bus.

We're sure a few of the firefighters reading can let us know about Orozco. Is he the guy who took over J-Fed's second job?

Hopefully, and sometime soon, one of these bootlicking, pathetic excuses for men who sold their souls to the Daley Mafia will have an epiphany and spill their guts revealing the proverbial "straw" that'll break the back of this criminal organization.

I won't hold my breath, though. I'm certain that there's a line of 11th & 19th warders that stretches to the horizon willing to fall on the sword to protect their "juice" or "China Man".

And, really now? Will Volpe's demotion to Budget Director for the CTA really hurt him much? Doubt it. They say that there's a silver lining in every cloud. Keep this latest fuck-up fresh in your mind, folks...20-to-1 odds that Paul Volpe gets ANOTHER great gig handed to him as soon as our friends in the media are told by aforementioned Daley Mafia to make this story quickly die.

These guys loyal to shortshanks ARE JUST PLAIN STUPID, GREEDY, EGOTISTCAL PRICKS JUST LIKE HIM!

Haven't these idiots put it together that shorty is a fed stoolie on a shaky immunity deal?

Ray Charles can see it as plain as day and he's both blind and DEAD!

This shit is crazier than Stalinist Russia! No shortage of useful idiots to willingly take the fall or unwittingly finding out that they've been set up to take a fall and opting to take their leave courtesy of Comrade Tokarev in a deserted spot or at their desk...

Shortshanks is an evil, disloyal, one-way muthafuckah! Self serving scoundrels like Daley always wrap themselves in righteous robes like loyalty especially if the hems are stained with the blood of those they stepped over like so many dead rodents snapped in a trap.

If these guys would smarten up, 42 extra-short would run out of people to throw under the bus... uhhh, maybe not. If they want to line up for shorty then that keeps him from devoting all his energy to fucking up CPD even more.

SCC, you (and just about everyone else frankly) keep confusing the head of OEMC position with the "2nd" job Weis was allegedly responsible for. There was a made-up position in the budget before Weis got here called Chief Emergency Officer. This IS NOT the head of OEMC. Weis' salary is a combination of the Supe's old salary PLUS the Emergency Officer budgeted salary. THAT'S the 2nd job he's supposed to have had.

All that being said, he hasn't done the work of ONE executive position, let alone two.

Masters, Masters, Masters.

Paul Volpe will be hired in about three months. He will get another job paying over 100 grand a year, all while collecting a pension from his chief of staff job.

Don't shed a tear for him....

Orozco will be fired by this time next year.

Two things I feel I need to correct about your post, Officer...

...the chief of staff responsible for the parking meter fiasco...

Volpe may be a Machine Apparatchik, but last time I checked, isn't it Chicago's Favorite Nanny/Mayor/Douchenozzle who is ultimately responsible for repeatedly reaming the people of this city?

"Nothing like having a fall guy right there willing to leap in front of that bus."

Somehow, whenever I remember the myriad scapegoats Da Mare has chosen to crucify, I can't help but be reminded of that scene in The Godfather" when Tessio finally realizes he's about to take his last car ride...

Back in 2004 William Abolt was shitcanned in what became the beginnings of the Hired Truck scandal. He was that scandal's first Fall Guy.

da mare proclaimed "He is no Fall Guy." Right. Neither is Paul Volpe. And no-nonsense Ray Orozco won't be either when he displeases the almighty 42 short next year.

We need only one Fall Guy to take his much overdue fall: shortshanks, 42 short, da mare, daley the corrupt, the one and only guy who causes all this mess.

The indictment of richard m. daley is way overdue. Public corruption crime wave? 42 short makes Blago look like a beginner.

Just another one of the many reasons respected brass and 98% of the patrol division have no confidence in J-Fed. Why in the world would J-Fed put a incompetent goof like penny in charge of a district like 011? Why would you do that J-Fed?

Great post but I would like to add that 98% of the officers have zero faith in any exempt rank member. At least I don't. They are not overly smart. They do not lead. They do not encourage or give thanks. Its all a farce. Name me one good one that anyone can put faith in. I cannot think of any. Its a joke. I can barely look at them without throwing up. Especially the ones on top. We are being led by a bunch of people that have no clue what it means to put handcuffs on people. Look at the top command staff. Weis=Fed, Cuelo=clueless & not the police, O'Keefe=civilian, Peterson=stupid & not the police, Jackson=not very bright smiles a lot and accomplishes nothing, Brust=Fed=civilian, Masters=civilian wanna be=dangerously stupid. Are we supposed to follow these people? Yeah right. Wake up people!

There were good guys on both sides of the strike back then, and guys on both sides who would do things differently if they'd known more of the facts. Janie Byrne used the strike to try and break Local 2. Don't take it out on Ray or any other firefighter who followed their conscience in the house or at the barrel.

The Brotherhood of the Barrel now has a new reason to hate daley. To this day, anyone who crossed the line in 1980 is not welcome at old school retirement parties, events etc. Look closely at the posters for such events and you will notice a barrel with some flames shooting out in one corner. I don't know much about Ray Orozco.

He did cross the picket line in 1980 and his dad was Fire Commish in the 90's.

I don't consider him a scab for crossing the line. If I had my way the firefighters who went on strike would never have been rehired.

If you don't like the job quit. Cops and firemen can't be allowed to strike. The system of collective bargaining is screwed up, but it's better than letting kids burn to death in fires or letting the criminals run around with less risk of arrest.

People died because of that strike. Some Employees of the Fire Department who went on strike were convicted of arson. I won't call them firefighters. They don't deserve the term.

My dad who had been a firemen for about 30 years crossed the picket lines as did my brother who had maybe 3 years on. They hated Jane Byrne, but my dad was one of the later responders to the Our Lady of the Angels Fire and wasn't about to leave the city unprotected. Every year when the anniversary of that fire came around he avoided watching TV or reading newspapers.

"The Brotherhood of the Barrel", what the strikers came to call themselves, never forgave the guys who didn't strike.

My dad retired a few years after the strike and my brother ended up working in firehouses mostly comprised of guys who stayed on the job. They both took a whole lot of abuse over the years, but I don't think they ever regretted going to work during the strike.

So yeah, they were scabs and I'd like to think I would have been one too in their situation.

Someone who strikes while others may die is worse than a scab. They are just as low as a cop who stands by while another cop is getting attacked by a group of bangers or waits for other cops to responds and points "over there in there".

He's a 1980 guy who crossed the lines during the strike. Daddy was Commissioner also. Must run in the family. Now how many pensions does this make?

1/08/2010 01:00:00 AM

That's called a scab.

**********************

The Brotherhood of the Barrel now has a new reason to hate daley. To this day, anyone who crossed the line in 1980 is not welcome at old school retirement parties, events etc. Look closely at the posters for such events and you will notice a barrel with some flames shooting out in one corner. That is Brotherhood of the Barrel, scabs are not welcome. The barrel signifies the barrel full of burning wood the strikers stood around during the strike.

1/08/2010 05:44:00 PM

Yeah, ok, I get the Barrel honor thing. But let's be honest.

Why didn't the AFL-CIO support the strike? I remember the dilemma for every labor union in the City holding their breath when the CFD Local went on television asking for support. Personally, in my heart, I was hoping someone would have the balls to address the issue head on. And they did. The
official statement was that while the federation of labor recognized the reason for the strike, the AFL-CIO could not support the strike because of the fireman's unique work arrangement that allowed them to work two full time jobs, and that their second job often took a job away from a union worker.

That was REAL public discourse where honor was actually involved and nobody pandered to the unwashed west side masses. You don't see old school leaders like that anymore. And that's a shame.

Ironically, you don't see any of this mentioned in all their CFD history that's posted anywhere. So, the brotherhood of the barrel boys can all glorify their little strike that they have raised to an iconic level and commiserate together because outside the ring of fire they are mostly perceived as hypocrites by the union guys they fucked for so many years with their bids and proposals that always seemed to come under the union estimate. How many of them were able to fit their strike duty in between side jobs? They weren't going without. But wanted guys to not work at all to support them. Bunch of little crybabies.

Crossing a picket line is one thing, but fucking someone out of a day's pay is a scab too.

To all the defenders of the scabs from 1980 remember one thing without that strike we would not be enjoying the benefits that we have today. Although many ff's want to forget what happened each one of these scabs took another man's job, those ff's who went on strike were fired two or three times by Byrne. Finally, remember one thing about a strike the benefactors of the strike are the next generation(s) of employees not the current members on strike. Those strikers knew this and had the balls to walk out and make the "job" better for the next generation. THE SCABS BENEFITTED THE MOST FROM THE STRIKE LOOK AT THE UPPER RANKS OF CFD SCABS, AND MORE SCABS. So for the guy who is getting all teary eyed about the way his father and brother were treated, shove it up your moon.

You and your dad are the epitome a REAL Fireman.

Thank you.

While I respect the work the strikers did when they were working, as has been previously, they were going to get a contract.

A union holding a gun to the head of the public as they did was a wiseguy tactic.

I'll probably get flamed for saying this but so be it. Municipal and governmet employees in public safety positions who strike should be terminated.

In fact, municipal and government positions shouldn't even be unionized.

This Republic of ous is toast when it gets to the point where there are more unionized government employees then not.

If the public isn't willing to pay a fair wage that draws people to the profession, the consequences of that alone to the public will drive the public to support bringing salaries where they need to be.

Respectfully,

The fire strike should have ended in ONE DAY, right after Jane told them she would give them a contract. Too bad they didn't fire every firefighter who stayed out.
Not a firefighter....or CFD employee,
CPD who was around before and during the strike.

The firefighters union was led by a guy who was willing to fight all the way to the Supreme Court of the US of A over facial hair.

Freaking facial hair.

That's why you had a strike two assholes pissing on each other.

An asshole mayor confronting an asshole union leader. Neither Janie or Frankie had any sense about concepts like "proportionality".

Everything was about seeing who had the bigger cojones. Goatie Boy or lil Janie.

I wasn't a cop during the strike, but an older relative told me stories about strikers trying to delay fire trucks from reaching fires. There were also strikers who helped fight a fire near a firehouse they were picketing at.

People are strange sometimes.

In any case it was a sad chapter in Chicago history.

Daley didn't "dump" Volpe. He just slid him over to a less visible position, at slightly less pay. Volpe is still sitting at the CLOUT TABLE, only the seats have been rearranged to make it appear that Shortshanks has taken some sort of 'definitive action' against the man, while avoiding any direct responsibility for this parking meter disaster himself. Hopefully, the voters won't forget this next year, and Daley can count this as his "Bilandic moment" at his own retirement party.

As a cop who was around during the FF's strike I'll say enough already with the BOB bullshit. The strikers were thugs and arsonists who jeopardized my family's life to rant about something they were going to get anyway: a contract - just like we got soon enough.

1/09/2010 04:08:00 AM

Thank you for that! Glorified heroes in love with themselves. There's one guy on the CFD that goes to every freaking calamity in the nation and then makes sure he gets an article in the newspaper about it. You know who he is.

Quit with the "he rose up through the ranks!" Are you fucking nuts? Back then, no one got anywhere unless they paid or were wired to the 11th Ward! Any movement or promotions were with the blessing of the 11th ward! Quit with the bullshit like you know for a fact this or that! Even now, this blog is full of mopes who are nothing but suckasses for these phony bosses saying "he was one of us, real police, standup guy, he wasn't a merit sgt, lt, capt!" How the fuck would you know? Do you actually believe mopes like Mags, Townsend, Mauer, Radke, Gross, made it the old fashion way? Go ask Santa! WTFU!

Agree with the post about the test process. When cpd did their own tests prior to hiring arthur anderson and the others, the fix was in easy peasy. Once the companies started to create the tests, they didn't know what to ask, so cpd designed the test, approved the test, and then handed out copies of the test to their friends or family. Then we got merit added to the process. The bottom line is promotions on cpd are still not nor ever will be 100 legit.

What about police who lay down on the job? No contract, no work most of you cry! Isn't that endangering your family! You can't have it both ways! Yos see why they demand a "no strike clause!" We are all powerless to do anything because of it! Just have to sit and wait until Daley feels like talking to us! MD just waiting for his fat pension! No one gives a fuck about anyone else but themselves. Face it and you will understand why you are still waiting for a raise and a contract!

Fuck Orozco and ALL of the other SCABS. These SHITBAGS benefitted off of the backs of their SO CALLED brothers..Been around 35 years. This guy has plenty of personal and professional skeletons in his closet.
Most of the brass are SCABS.Just what the "HONORABLE" Mayor wants. The same reason he put Brooks as Comm. This was in response to racial comments made on the radio..There are PLENTY of spots where Orozco and other SCABS wont show their face..Rightfully so..They have NO HEART or BACKBONE
