This is just too silly for words:
- Commander in 017 ordered all cars on first watch not to take their 30 in a hole. He wants them out in the street where there is no cover or shielding. He uses the departments gps software conveniently located on his blackberry to find you from his bed and sends out a Sgt. to threaten you if you don't move. God save BORAT!
We didn't believe this at first. It is micromanaging to the extreme. Plus, we recall all the brass telling anyone and everyone that GPS was here to protect cops. It was to be utilized for our safety. It would be used to send help in the event that we couldn't get to a radio. It would never ever be used simply to fuck over a copper.

in the past 30 days some nice pinches have been made in 017--- some were from radio jobs and some were on view--- workers will be workers and dogs will be dogs, nothing will change that.... seriously, please tell me that a commander of police has better things to do on their spare time than booting up a gps map and watching what squad cars are doing out on patrol--- none of us gets paid by the mile--- sitting in that car for 8 hours is the kiss of death, you have to pull over for awhile or get out of the car and stretch the legs....

I work in 4 and would jump at the chance to work in 17. How about trasferring some of the cops out to other dist for 30-60 days. I know that can be done. Bring my Sgt with too she is great.

It's called s contract.
A person micro manages when they feel you can not do a job because they would not be able to do the job. So by micromanaging he is saying he is not capable of doing your job himself.
You can take your 30 anywhere in the district!
FOP needs to include GPS use language in the contract.
Appropriate use of GPS information by exempts needs to be spelled out in a MOU.
Grievences need to be filed related to harrassement during lunch/break times.
Unless the contract specifically has language describing how GPS can be used, exempts/commander can do whatever they please.

The answer is YES they can tell where you are at! Ask your dispatcher via the PDT what your location is. They will tell you what street your on as well as what way you are facing and if you are moving or not!

I live in 017 (moving to 016 soon) and I have to say the POs there have helped me out on more than 1 occassion. I have called a few times for disturbances etc and have never told the call taker I was an ODPO. Got a nice response each time. I hate to hear us all bashing each other every chance we get......

Oh, it's true, it's damn true. Not only has Borat been stalking the lowly blue shirts under his command, but he's also equipped his blackberry to keep track of special Delta Force officers, myself included. Right now I'm currently assigned to the Simon City Royal Task Force Team. A buddy of mine that works at headquarters tipped me off that Borat was watching me.
Feeling one good stalk deserves another, I placed a special tracking device/microchip to Borat's take home vehicle. The other night, I tracked him to the 020th district. He was parked behind Banana Video. At first, it looked like he was alone, but when I shined my spotlight on him another head popped up from under the driver's side dashboard. It was Masters!
I'm no dummy. I got the hell out of there before they recognized me and made a phone call to get me dumped back to patrol. Unfortunately, 017 district officers better get used to Borat. He ain't going anywhere. He's just the type of "man" that this department loves to have as an exempt. A creepy, micro-managing, zero people skills, temper tantrum throwing, Blago loving jackass that knows nothing about contracts or procedures. Remember, he once went down to roll call and told the troops that if they didn't keep there activity up, they wouldn't be allowed to work special employment anymore.

I believe the general orders do not state that we must eat out in the open. If I bring a prepacked lunch to work and want to get off the street and sit in a parking lot and eat the sergeant and commander can go scratch themselves, that 30 minutes is MINE, I can even turn my radio off for that period of time, which I will never do in case a copper needs help. But as far as him wanting the cars visible up yours it's my time

You're correct on the "sick" mind. Mike Mealer has a severe anxiety disorder and is probably suffering depression. I never cared for Mealer, but if he's suffering depression, he's in hell and I feel sorry for him.
Some may rip into Too Many Rectums for expressing sympathy for Mealer. But the progression to reach depression is:
S Stress
A Anxiety
D Depresion
Many with depression don't believe they have it. Just from reading this blog and Mealer's symptoms, the department should do him a favor and have him sit down with somebody from the Employee Assistance Program.

Radio signal is TRI ANGULATED via three to five AREA TOWERS located at various AREAS in chicago. Thus,if you are a beat car at lets say 2700 North Hoyne,your GPS signal would be received by AREA three tower,partially on the area five tower and MAYBE on the AREA 4 tower subsequently,the strongest signal is on the AREA THREE tower. Add to that the ID BURST at the end of a xmission and they know who you are and where (approximately) you are. The PDT GPS works off satellite actually and can "pinpoint" the car within 100 feet. The little red button on your radio DOESNOT WORK but if it did, it would cause an open key and a 30 second interval burst of your unit ID number. correlate that to the radio sheet and location of the PO can be narrowed down by beat but it takes a long time. The ONLY GPS system that provides INSTANT ACTUAL LOCATION is the GPS in planes. Accurate to about 5 feet but im assuming pilots are more valuable than Police.
part two: there are ENHANCED GPS systems that are phasing IN to the CPD where,like in Wisconsin they can tell date time minute second beat diretion (to 10 feet) and car spped and whether your emergency lights are on or not. Can it beused for officer safety? Sure. Thats what it was developed for but remember we are talking about Chicago here boys and girls.
This reminds me of years ago when working on midnights and the Sgt. would check you odometer before and after the watch, so we would go into the cemetery and jack up the right rear tire and put the trans in drive. Sometimes the plan would backfire when you came in with 300 miles.

Garmin GPS on my motorcycle gets me across country, if I make a wrong turn I know it within 15 feet. No problem.
GPS in squad car is many times more expensive and is useless in an emergency. Not even connected with the in-car cameras. Only good for after action shit. Trying to hang a PO later, no good for urgent needs.
Typical CPD good for shit equipment.
Pay too much, poorly thought out, ill conceived, doesn't fit our needs. To top it off it was all installed in the field by Homer and Jethro working out of their car trucks with the wife, sons, daughters and kids. Real fucking professional. Same folks probably did Skunk Holler, Kentucky Sheriff Dept.
What do we expect, an actual professionally done and properly designed system? Not here!

The first scenario you mentioned involving portable radios has nothing to do with GPS. It's simply RF triangulation. The only thing you mentioned that is realistic is the data burst transmitted upon de-key that contains the radio ID number.
If our portable radios were equipped with GPS they could be set up to acknowledge silent "pings" by instantly responding with the GPS coordinates.
This type of technology is often used to disable stolen radios.
RF triangulation is hardly considered quick or accurate.

For those of you who say, he (Commander of 017th) is the "worst boss", you must be shortimers or only have worked in 017 your whole career. That comes with the job/// And believe me in reading this blog some of the bosses you think are such "great guys", trust me others have different thoughts. Get over it, you should be use to it, this job is not a personality contest. If you are doing your job, even the biggest "asshole boss" will leave you alone. They know who does the job!
Despite all of this you guys in 017 won't do anything. Why not as P.O.'s you stick together and perhaps employ some common sense tactics. The key is to stick together. As a veteran officer, it is so sad to see us the so called brotherhood not even stick together. Together we are strong. Divided we are weak.

Citizens, police and the community deserve better. For those of you who say, he (Commander of 017th) is the "worst boss", you must be shortimers or only have worked in 017 your whole career. That comes with the job/// And believe me in reading this blog some of the bosses you think are such "great guys", trust me others have different thoughts. Get over it, you should be use to it, this job is not a personality contest. If you are doing your job, even the biggest "asshole boss" will leave you alone. They know who does the job!
Obviously, sir, madam, you have not had a boss dislike you. If that ever happens to you, I don't care how good you are, they will burn you. They have the power. Belive me, it's human nature. Take a look at what happenned to Christ!

If our portable radios were equipped with GPS they could be set up to acknowledge silent "pings" by instantly responding with the GPS coordinates.
This type of technology is often used to disable stolen radios.
However the new radios(the ones that tell you what zone you are on ARE equipped with GPS burst technology/ping. These do not operate on a satellite system but operate on a land line (hard wired) tower system where the radio position IS triangulated and sent to OEMC. right, secret squirrel shit, your position is instantly transmitted to OEMC. they can't find you in an emergency with the GPS and now I am to believe the radio triangulation is the key?
If the city uses this stuff it will only be to stick it in some copper's ass, certainly not to help us in an emergency.

a majority of the bosses are goofs but there are a couple good ones in 017...or were had some good ones on 3rd watch but were either forced out or left of their own
No the blackberry part is real! There is a sgt who works specail who has the app and follows his cars with it! Nothing like straight time and a sgt micro managing!

They already ARE using it to jam up coppers. The "dash cam" the "new" pdt the gps in the radios and hidden in the cars. Jody is tightening his reign on the working coppers and replacing them with "gel head college boys"
While you need a PhD to write an ANOV (apparently) now a days, back when thunder and lightning rained down on ghettos in Chicago only the following was needed:
A. A SPINE
b. A Set of BALLS
c. A heart
And STRICT ADHERENCE to the Following Mantra:
