They Still Get Paid

Nice job on that Parking Meter contract Shortshanks. And a fantastic job by the aldercreatures reading and reviewing the fine print...what did it take you assholes? Five minutes to pass it? Jagoffs:
  • It's the gift that just keeps giving, to the private company the city hired to operate city parking meters.

2 Investigator [...] reports on a buried part of the billion-dollar contract that may require the city to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to the company.

Here's the reason: There are street repairs, art fairs and block parties –- all events that prevent you from parking in normally legal spots. When those spots have parking meters along them, Chicago Parking Meter LLC, the company that got the billion-dollar deal with the city, can't make money, right?

Actually, it's a great deal for the parking meter company. They usually make money because you have to plug the meter to park legally. When you can't park at a metered spot because of street construction or other projects, they still get paid.
Well that might be one reason why hundreds, maybe thousands of meters have popped up all over little used stretches of road that never saw much in the way of parking traffic. These out-of-the-way meters can be claimed as "blocked" when all the neighborhood festivals, parades and events block off the streets as staging areas and claimed against "lost revenue" by the connected firm.

But if your connecetd to the daley crime cabal just keep on taking more and more money, and no one will ever try to convict this criminal! barry will just let it all go on and keep his feds away!

Not that I would personally (wink, wink) endorse, promote, champion or suggest such a response, but it probably wouldn't bother too many people if, hypothetically-speaking of course, something were to happen that would disable these pay boxes.

I don't know...maybe the coin and credit card slots loaded with toothpicks followed by a liberal application of Super Glue or quick-bonding epoxy?

There are few limitations when you use your imagination, people.

Then again, I'm sure the contract calls for the city to pay Chicago Parking Meter LLC for "inoperable meters due to vandalism".

And slightly off topic, but "revenue generation" related: DOR employees seen at 0930 hours scouring the west end of beats 811 & 812 a few days ago, looking to make their index on the backs of city workers and legitimate working people.

I pulled up next to one mouth-breather as he walked down a block where several coppers and firemen live, ticket machine in-hand, and asked him how it felt to be a coward that wouldn't dream of trying to hang a ticket on a car in the ghetto. His response? "They know you folks finna pay cuz you don't want 'em to take it out yo check".

If it wasn't painfully obvious before, it should be crystal clear now: Daley is targeting neighborhoods known to have high concentrations of city workers to hammer with parkers.

Just a suggestion: coppers, firemen, S & S employees, etcetera, that feel they're being unfairly targeted with tickets should keep a copy of the ticket and any other pertinent information surrounding it's issuance written down somewhere. Maybe down the road someone can file a Freedom of Information request regarding DOR's ticket activity and compare the inequities. Maybe such data can prove profiling, and we can collectively try to stick it in Daley's ass...assuming he's not dead or in jail when the numbers are crunched.

Maybe by that time, there'll be someone in the media with the semblance of a spine that would investigate the findings further.

Just read an interesting New York Times Story about Chicago's 50 Alderthieves. It seems that they lose much less money with their forced furlough days. The average City Worker works 260 days per year. If he takes 10 furlough days, it means a pay reduction of 10/260 for the year. However, the aldermen "work" 365 days per year. Their furloughs are computed using 365 days. Therefore, they lose only 10/365. Many aldermen have refused to take any furlough days, while others use holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas to satisfy their furlough days. It's just another way that these jagoffs stick it in our asses every day.

The sad part is that Daley probably rammed this scam of a deal through so he could get the money for the pipe dream of his, the olympics. He is so arrogant that he thought the olympics were a guarantee and he would risk everything to get it. What probably ended up happening is the olympics saw Daley and his crew for what they were and didn't want to do business with them. We can only imagine how much has been wasted that we don't know about for the scamlympics? Great job Daley!

I could be wrong, but after the Kennedy/Dems seat was taken back by the people of MA. and the vibes I got around town here on election day, there appears to be a MAJOR voter backlash on the horizon for November.

I keep hearing, over and over again, vote for NO INCUMBENTS. I've also heard rumblings about David Hoffman running for Mayor. He has nothing to lose there, having spent a number of years as Chicago's Inspector General, exposing political illegalities when he had the power to do so. Unfortunately, when Daley created the position of IG, he and the City Council exempted themselves from investigations by his office so they could carry on their corruption unabated.

I could be wrong again, but Hoffman had all of the major endorsements in the Senate race against Alexi Giannoulias touting him as honorable and incorruptable and it would seem he would be a breath of fresh air in this sewer of political corruption called Chicago!

It's painfully obvious that few aldercreatures read the deal before most(five did not)rubber stamped it. I used a meter once last Sept. but never again. There are no red light cameras on the south side?

There are no city employees living on the south side?

Sometimes the "conspiracy" theories are easy to debunk.

Utilize the "google" and search Chicago red light camera locations. Addresses and maps pop up.

Now as to city employees I have heard rumors that one or two may live south. Particularly in areas like the 19th Ward. Maybe that is just rumor.

Now I know that red light cameras annoy some of you because there is essentially no way around the ticket.

Oh, I forgot, maybe you don't blow the red light. Remember it is a traffic enforcement/revenue device.

If you want to blow something I suggest heading down to Bronzeville and visiting Gotham City Police HQ. With some practice you might get a merit promotion yet.

It still is. That is why when you take a suspension day, you are better off taking the day in lieu, rather than giving up 8 hours.

8 hours = 8 hours. 1 day = ~5.25 hours.

And if the day is a CR# suspension, not a Summary Punishment suspension, and not reversed by a successful grievance, your career service time for pension purposes is reduced by that amount, assuming the Pension Board catches it.

So if you took any bad days, check with the Pension Board before you pull the pin.

You are probably too young to remember....Harold Washington won over Daley because to Daley it was more important to sink incumbent Mayor Jane Byrne. Daley was the spoiler there and he knew it. Jane was the best Mayor we the police, and citizens ever had and my first city paychecks had Richard J. Daley's name on them.

Last election it was Dorothy Brown and the spoiler was nobody, "Doc" Walls. It could be anybody that Shorty appoints before retirement. It might have been Michael Smith but he got caught and died. In the next election, if Shortshanks runs, there will be more than one candidate running against him. If Hoffman runs, there will be a Hoffman clone running. If Dorothy Brown runs again there will be another Black candidate running. It's too soon for Toni Preckwinkle, but give her some time.

If Shorty croaks suddenly, it's going to be all out war. If Hoffman was so great a corruption fighter why hasn't he started at fire at Daley's feet already?
