Is Quinn Poison?

  • Gov. Quinn’s top choice for running mate turned him down Tuesday.

Major Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran, said she felt too strong a commitment to stick with her post at the Veterans Affairs Dept.

“I made a commitment to President Obama and our Nation's Veterans to serve at the Department of Veterans' Affairs and I want to fulfill my promise before returning home,” Duckworth said from Washington, D.C.
Duckworth is smart enough to see 2010 is shaping up to be a republican year across the nation - why give up a secure job for an iffy proposition in Illinois? And in any case, Madigan has already decreed that Lisa gets the job in 2014 and no one better stand in her way.

SCC,

You missed the big one:

The Quinn bin . . .

Sneed hears rumbles that former Dem U.S. Senate hopeful David Hoffman, who ran a tough campaign against Alexi Giannoulias, is one of five names on state Dem party leader Mike Madigan's wish list for lieutenant governor.

• Top Tip: The list also includes Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez as well as Gov. Quinn's favorite pick: former state Veterans Affairs chief Tammy Duckworth, who is considering the possibility.

Top Tip II: Sneed also has learned that Quinn personally called Alvarez over the weekend to see if "she would be available for the job . . . should it come to that," but Alvarez respectfully declined.

• The Hoffman report: Hoffman is on vacation, an aide told Sneed, "so I don't know whether he's been called."

Please Mr Hoffman do NOT take the Lt Governor slot. This is the kiss of death to you becoming the Mayor of Chicago.

Madigan and Daley want to destroy you or get rid of you.

Alvarez turned Quinn down. What does that say?

Thank God Brady will be Governor!

Quinn wants to raise the Illinois income tax from 3% to 5% and tax retirees on their pensions and social security.

Quinn has NO chance of winning. The taxpayers are revolting.

I wouldn't say so much that Quinn is poison; I think most people look on Quinn as more of a plodding goof who has been extremely fortunate than anything else. It really doesn't matter who holds the Governor's seat after November. As long as Madigan remains as powerful as he is, he'll be the real power in Springfield.

Enough of the taxing! Illinois will be a huge ghost town from the fed-up middle class that keep on forking over more money for the mistakes the government has made and for all the handouts.

People are going to wise-up and move to a state that doesn't welcome all the idiot politicians who don't know what they are doing other than lining their pockets and also look for a state that doesn't cow-tow to the minorities who always have their hands-out for free this and free that. Enough.

I'm as conservative as the next guy, but whoever is Governor is going to have to raise revenues. There is no way the State can cut 11 billion to balance budget. I hate to admit it, but that business organization headed by Msall was right...all because of the Democrats mismanagement!!!

Bill Brady is NOT going to get elected Governor of this state.

He's against abortion in ALL instances and his main platform seems to be keeping the gays from getting married. That ain't going to fly.

The GOP blew it by nominating someone too right wing to win.

Quinn is eminently beatable, but not by Brady. Just 500 votes or so and Dillard would have won.

Dillard would likely beat Quinn.

Brady's only support will come from the thirty percent or so of the state that supported Alan Keyes against Barack Obama.

Oh well. We haven't had a decent Governor in this state since Richard Ogilvie. Since then the Dems and Repubs have both sucked.

a little more than half the people in the state pay taxes. how about this...instead of killing the tax PAYERS have the freeloaders pitch in? tell the ''vampires'' the blood supply is very low. liberal social programs and political correctness are a main reason for this mess. the over taxed people need a little sanctuary too...it might mean moving to another state to survive the tax tsunami.

State spending is Out of Control. Cut wasteful spending, get rid of all the corrupt Illinois politicians feeding off the Taxpayers like vultures, get rid of the Illegals, cut Welfare, keep felons in prison, and you will see how fast Illiniis comes around, without raising taxes again...

Both parties are complicit in the State's fiscal mismanagement. The deficit and the debt are so large that budget cuts alone won't be enough to get us out of trouble. Taxes are going to have to go up or the State will default. Go to IllinoisIsBroke.com to voice your opinion. When I did my state rep's office called me right back.

The State and City can easily balance their budgets. Just do what you and I and every other citizen do every month. Stop spending for shit which you don't need. But all we do is sit and bitch. We see the stories all the time...flower planters, statues, one million to church that burned, Brookfield Zoo upgrade...etc.
It's all about them trying to get re-elected and look good. Find a man or woman that will stand up, make the cuts that are needed and stop the bullshit waste.
But it is easier for them to just keep raising taxes and deficit spend and blame police, unions, pensions.....

Hold the phone Sherlock Holmes. What if Plummer backs out, which is a very strong possibility, and they put Dillard in for the Lieutenant Governor spot on the Republican side?

Brady-Dillard just might have the edge on Cyanide Quinn's ass. Cyanide is killing his career and will kill anyone else's that hooks up with him. None of the other Democrats are looking to be in the same room with the guy. Hines and Duckworth, and Lord knows whom else, have taken a big step back.

Besides, Madigan is cutting Quinn loose, for obvious reasons! The blood is in the water. Vote Republican!

I am at this moment writing my acceptance letter to governor Quinn. I will let him know that I will be delighted to accept the job of Lt. Governor of the Great State of Illinois.

I will be delighted to get moving right away on our re-election campaign.

This will work out perfectly. I can put my pension on hold, connect Lt. Gov work to police work somehow, add to my police pension, enjoy 4 years of Lt. Gov. pay at $115,300.00 per and possibly finagle another state pension out of the deal.

Sweet!

I will visit the CPD occasionally, mostly to get a couple of asshole supervisors to call me "Sir" and to get into Cubs and Sox games for free and throw out first pitches etc.

This will work out very well, oh yes. In fact, I will go tomorrow to that tombstone guy on South State St., Elmo, (before you go, see Elmo, tombstones carved while you wait) to begin carving my Roland Burris inspired tombstone.

Anyone know the state anthem? jeez, I have to learn all that shit, the state bird and stuff. I wonder how nice a house I will get in Springfield?

Well hell, let's roll!

There is no way the State can cut 11 billion to balance budget.

All Quinn has to do is grow a pair and repeal Blago's health care plan for the children- barf if you must. This put a 5 billion dollar hole in the budget. Hospitals and doctors are not getting paid. All Quinn has to do is the same as Blago- executive order canceling the program.

What is going to happen if the hospitals and doctors stop taking this insurance? What is going to happen if they all decide to sue for money owed?

This plan must go. There is half the money needed.

Stop giving those seniors free bus rides, hell, make 'em pay double for a couple of years to catch up some of the loss of the past few years, than back down to full fare.

And as far as the income tax, go ahead raise it, hell, double it to 6%, please do. I am near retirement and I won't be paying it anyway and if police lose that exemption I will move immediately to a state without an income tax. 6% Illinois Income tax NOW!
