Who Put a Nickel in Burke?

Ed, you're obviously a borderline moron and it's a miracle you aren't in jail for all sorts of ethical "lapses" and crooked dealings. Stop proving it every day:
  • Chicago restaurants, stores and cafeterias would be prohibited from using Styrofoam and other “polystyrene foam” products that clog landfills, under a crackdown proposed Wednesday by the City Council’s most influential alderman.

Finance Committee Chairman Edward M. Burke (14th) drafted the ban after learning that Chicago Public Schools use and throw away 35 million Styrofoam lunch trays each year.

If the City Council approves the ban, violators would face fines ranging of up to $300 for the first offense to $500 for subsequent violations. City Hall would be free to grant exemptions, only if there is “no alternative that is both affordable and compostable.”

First up, there is no "landfill shortage." This is another fantasy brought to you by the same people who started the "global warming" debacle that has been completely debunked in the past three or four months. It's been funny as hell seeing every scientist, UN talking head and Al Gore stumbling over themselves attempting to explain why their entire premise of spending trillions of dollars is based on lies.

Second, we'd rather the CPS kept using and disposing of Styrofoam instead of wasting millions of gallons of water and detergents washing so-called "reusable" items like plastic trays or "bio-degradable" technologies. The alleged "green" movement does more harm than good in these cases. Do you notice how cereal prices have shot up in the past year or two? That's because more and more grain is diverted to fuel and "green" bio products. Guess who suffers the most? The poor, especially recipients of US farm aid overseas.

And third, that phrase "City Hall would be free to grant exemptions" just screams for bribes or political donations or worse. The City Council keeps sticking his nose into foie gras, trans-fat, and lord knows what else without actually spending time on governing and solving money problems that are dooming this city to irrelevance.

In the UK they use the shortage of landfill excuse to severely restrict the amount families can throw away each week. Garbage in most places is collected only every two weeks and has to completely fit in a small receptacle. Leaving the lid not closed, leaving your bin out half an hour out of the allotted time window, or accidentally leaving a chip packet in the recycling attracts very large fines.

Look no further for the prospect of fine income for the motivation behind this.

The cost of corn even in a box of Corn Flakes is nothing compared to the cost of fuel to deliver raw materials and the finished cereal. Blame fuel prices that have soared over the past few years. Blaming biofuels for high food costs is backwards. Ethanol lowers gas costs by increasing supply, which if anything lowers the cost of your precious cereal.

CPS doesn't have to choose between styrofoam and wasting water washing dishes. They could use paper trays, recycled paper trays, or biodegradable corn-based trays.

It is high time that we cut the number of Alderman in half at minimum and at best we really only need less than 10 Alderman for this city, since we keep losing businesses, conventions and now even the airlines are pissed off with the landing fees being raised for the white elephant called O'hare!

Yes, Burke in his rich old age, has now become our protector, a man who knows what is good for the rest of us. But, a moran? No, not really. He has made a fortune in government, made his wife a supreme court justice and wields lots of power.A former police officer who controls the finance committee and who pays, or not pays, line of duty medical bills.

Agreed and apple haed eddie and another alderidiot have come up with another idea to save the city millions! ready he wasnts to dim all the streetlights to save money! What a jag! Not long ago the alley lights were replaced with brighter bulbs due to crime and oily eddie wants this also? people in englewood want all the lights just "cut out" easier for dope dealing and robberies!

Burkes deatil is to big! Why does he always need 2 "guys"? 1 to drive and keep car running other to open and close his door! Why did the tresurer put in the budget her huge detail all get D-3 rate like burkes and daleys? I was at an event the city clerk was there knowing that the old clerk had a detail the clerk was asked "Is your detail outside?" The reply "I can drive myself I am a man,and if my family needs a ride I can do that, also if I need gas or oil change I take the car in"! He does have a city car but does all his own driving!

The question begs why does burke with the bullshit court order have a detail? Why does the tresurer who no one knows have a detail and a new police spec crown vic? These officers could be better used back on the streets right mayor? If they need drivers hire smg security you know the multi-million dollar security company started by the mayors 3 deatl guys, who retired and dam they win all the contracts wonder why??

Sorry to rain on your left-wing democrat misinformation. Would you care to explain how we're wrong?

The fact is, there will always be plenty of room to bury our trash. The entire landfill capacity of the United States is about 1/6th the size of New Jersey. That's nothing.

The problem here has always been licensing and building new landfills. It's an artificial crisis (kind of like global warming) created to scare everyone into bad decisions. Here's an example:

All of the waste produced in the United States for the next 100 years could be stored in a 10 x 10 mile square about 255 feet high - that the height of the Freshkills landfill New York City uses.

Incineration and recycling will make that pile even smaller, but it isn't a matter of running out of space. It's a matter of zoning.

So don't come here with your BS scare tactics. It just isn't going to work. Read about it here - http://www.de-fact-o.com/fact_read.php?id=89
