This is 2010, right? Workplace harassment is supposed to be a thing of the past, isn't it?
- Chicago's top Fire Department official will take vacation time until the conclusion of an investigation into sexual harassment allegations that were made against him, the mayor's office said today.
The announcement by Fire Commissioner John Brooks is expected to come in the form of a written statement, said Jacquelyn Heard, press secretary to Mayor Richard Daley. She did not know how long it would take to complete the probe, to be done by the beleaguered Office of Compliance.
And what's with aldercreature Carrie Austin?

We guess it isn't 2010 after all. Must be about 1975 or so with attitudes like these. But hey, how about that Office of Compliance? How many millions are they wasting in salaries and how much more in payouts will they be responsible for covering up stuff?

The bond hearing turned into a family affair when it was revealed that Szaflarski illegally had two guns. His ex-wife, who still lives with Szaflarski, handed them over to a relative, Chicago Police officer Mary Versetto, who said she is keeping them in her home.
Szaflarski is the son-in-law of the late Chicago mobster Joseph "Shorty" LaMantia. Versetto is LaMantia's niece.
When Funk questioned her, Versetto had few details about Szaflarski's guns.
She said she didn't actually know whose guns they were.
She said she didn't know where the guns had been stored.
But she did believe they weren't stored in the house where Szaflarski and his ex-wife live.
Versetto, who was not in court but questioned over a speakerphone, sounded impatient with the prosecution's questioning, at one point asking, "Is that it?"

Shortshanks is on record as saying he never gives a female employee a complement, on anything, as he does not want to be accused of sexual harassement.

We had a deputy superintendent who went on to steller service on the county. I believe he was the subject of numerous sexual harassment charges. Did not hurt his career a bit. Now the fire chief. It should be an ethics violaltion, at the least, to date subordinates in your chain of command, whether married or single. When these things happen in private industry, you lose your job.

At the time of this, Brooks was a battalion cheif, so then he makes top boss. Funny how things work, considering I had a 4 year confidetial CR, which happened to be my brick and he was pushed up in the ranks. Oh, and he was buddies with Issac Carothers, who at the time was Police and Fire board chair. Funny how the world works here in Chicago, considering I've been put in for sargeant and guessing Carothers worked his magic and promoted others on his wish list. Has anyone looked into his promotions and if not should someone. When one of us gets jammed up, they dismiss every case and let go everyone we lock up. Should the people who have been promoted by Issac Carothers be looked at and demoted. That's the way the department has been working as of late. Fair is fair!!

What ever the results of the investigation turn out to be, past practice with this political administration in dealing with sexual harrasment will result in Brooks receiving a better job. Look at the allegations Shields had, they gave him a higher paying job at the Board of Education.
You have the mopes who sexually harass women and run of the mill misogynists in City management. The latter only seem to like women who look like celebrities that wouldn't give them the time of day. They're assholes to the rest of the women who are average looking, like themselves.
Fortunately there are many good supervisors as well. Not all supervisors are created equal when it comes to being decent human beings.
Please consider how Obama and his staff do business. Then consider how similiar it is his teacher (Daley)and the way he governs. Daley has trained a lot of other assholes, only they are now running this country. We are screwed.....

I ran into that guy at several large fires. If I saw right, he had a Lambert Tree award with cluster, that's two of the damn things! Could that be true? Did he earn two Lambert Tree/Carter Harrison awards? That's pretty damn good.
Another great guy near the top is a deputy commish, Mark Levinson, one of the very best there is at CFD.

Don't be surprised if this so-called 'harassment' case falls apart. Some pretty lenghty phone calls have been logged between the two. If you don't want someone's attention, you don't speak to them for over an hour on the phone to get that point across...and we all know a few women on the CPD who have a history of filing harassment complaints everywhere they have been assigned.

I'm familiar with 1 sexual harassment suit filed at work. it wasn't corruption and it certainly didn't involved federal prosecutors. not sure where obama fits into this.

Yes, the fire commish is a single man and the female emeployee is a single women and both of them are entitled to date anyone they want. That said, she is in his chain of command and it looks bad that he dates within his chain of command. But, when it did not go anywhere and she was put on the lay off list, it had better be legitimate. Retaliation give credence to the sexzual harassment claim. In private industry he would be fired, no if no buts. It should be the same in the police and fire where bossses date women wholesale, married or single, does not matter.We have all seen it
