Lieutenant Openings

Remember all the bid openings in 003? 30, then 35, then 40 over the course of 6 or 8 months. Everyone knew exactly what the problem was:

But no one would do anything about it. Cops aren't stupid, so we don't really understand why bosses insist on treating so many of us like mushrooms. Cops will go out of their way to avoid an unpleasant work environment. They will bid out, get detailed out, they will even burn phone calls to remove themselves from it. And they'll tell everyone else the who, what and why so no one bids to go there in the meantime.

So what does it mean when the 017 District has not one, not two, but THREE lieutenant openings? That's half the assigned strength of the district, but in these undermanned times where everyone is short lieutenants, it's more like three-quarters shorthanded.

:::Hold on a second...yes. Yes? Really? You're kidding? No, you're not kidding. Borat, eh? Ok, that would explain a lot. Thanks:::

Never mind. Question answered. Carry on.

The arrogance of most white shirts in 017 is amazing. Then there are the ass kissing brown nosers. Good bosses turned to the dark side afraid of being dumped.

Sgt's and Coppers being told they cannot be excused sick. One Sgt had to get his own relief Sgt to cover. He is now on the medical possible mini stroke due to high blood pressure.

What a terrible place 017 has become to work! Its like going to the dentist everyday to get a tooth drilled without novacaine. Micro managing does not work!

HELP!!!!!!!!

Speaking of all those openings in 003, were they ever completely filled? There seems to only be a few openings there posted within the monthly transfer bids the last couple of periods. Or did the department do it's usual smoke-n-mirrors move? It doesn't seem possible to have all those spots filled in no time at all. Anyone have any input on this?

Oh yeah, before I forget: Fuck You, Mealer! And double-fuck you, Crump-Hales!

017 has three lt spots because three lts retired recently--- it has nothing to do with the d/c.... 017 is a good spot to be a lieutenant, nothing happens there and you can relax a little before you retire.....

Despite poor leadership, 017 is NOT a bad place to work, especially if you live NW. Commute to work time is 10-15 minutes from 016. Decent places to eat and coffee...and there are actually people in certain beats that appreciate the police. I guarantee 017 will not have unfilled spots for long.

I can't believe Mealer is still a commander. He was sent to a district that could literally run itself and made huge changes instantly. He did this because he believes he is smarter than everyone else. The results of every change he has made has been to anger the workers of 017 resulting in unbelievably low activity as compared to before he arrived. We can only hope that he will be promoted shortly.

017 was always a place to go when you were tired of the west or south sides. It was quicker than 020 and 019, if that was your thing. If supervisors don't want to work there, where do they want to work?

17 had 3 Lt's retire with the 55 medical. The bids were unit bids which means that a district could have plenty of Lt's but none want to be assigned there.

017 needs to give back our lieutenant in midnights, we only have one right now on 1st Watch 025. We always have lieutenants fill in from other DST if we lucky, while our own is detailed to 017. What's wrong with this picture?

OT, saying prayers for our Capt Lupe, I hope you feel better boss, you can do this, you fought bigger battles than this, we trust you going to win. Can't wait till you come back & hear you say "call the ASA for felony upgrade, you can get one for this" God Bless you Capt.

You cannot be told you cannot go home sick. If you go home sick you cannot be placed on the medical for that day. If you do not come in the next day due to illness then you go on the medical. No boss can deny you going home sick. If they demand you prove you are sick make them give you a direct order then go to the hospital ER and they City has to pick up the bill for your ER visit, not you. Make sure there are lots of witnesses when you are ordered to go to the ER.

Most officers that never been anywhere else but 017th doesn't have a single clue how lucky they are (and most doesn't know how to be a POLICE), instead, all they do is Bitch and Moan all freaking day or hit the medical because their partner are either in forlo or what else, in MEDICAL!!

17 district needs a refresher coarse in the ghetto for the duration of the summer, and if they still feel the way they do, maybe then I'll agree with them. I work in the ghetto and guess what..our Sargent's suck ass, our Lt’s sit around in the station, and at the end of the day they have the balls to ask you what have you done if you so happen to ask them for something. Aside from that you have watch out for the animals during the tour and answer calls. Doing a mover or two in 17 cant possibly be the hardest thing in the world. Maybe you guys in 17 should answer a domestic or two while being surrounded by 20 ass holes who want to kill you.

I work in 003 and I know for a fact we didn't have that many openings. Apparently everyone didn't know what the problem was in 003. There was never 30 or 40 openings in 003. Actually 003 had more personnel than most of the districts on the south side. There were no one man cars and all rapids were up. Wasn't it funny all of the openings disappeared one week after the Burger Queen left. Dugan did an excellent job of playing the shell game.

I cant stand it when people who work in a district like 017, 024,023, 020 016 bitch and moan like they are the real deal and its so stressful everyday... give me a break. if working in 17 is like going to the dentist everyday then working in 007 is like going to an obama rally every day... much much much worse! stop your complaining.. you dont have to deal with the animal day in and day out. you get a handful of homicides every year and wanna be gang bangers..stop whining!! and if its so bad in cushy 017 then go to englewood or 011 and relax in that hood...pathetic!

If not she will surely injure herself working out on company time. Google her name, you will get a kick out of reading the Appellate Court decision which promoted her to Captain and gave her back pay & benefits and a pile of cash for her distress.

You are correct the Department used smoke screens to claim 40 openings in 003. You should know that if 003 had 40 openings they would not have been able to man the cars. That did not happen. The cars were manned (2) person cars and Rapids. The alleged openings in 003 were never filled because they were non existence. Wake up. In addition, If it were true, the Department administration looks bad to have a district with 40 openings and the other districts fully staff. In addition, during that time 50 recruits graduated, non went to 003, doesn't that sound strange? I'm a supervisor in 003 and I could compare my sheets to any supervisors sheets. You would be surprised.

I just read the verdict. All I can say is WOW. $500,000.00 plus back pay, plus promotion. From what I read she had almost no evidence that she wasn't promoted because of either her race or gender. Only in Cook County.

Don't feel bad I work for a Capt who made us change his DOG so he could get two more days death in family after sitting on the IOD for 8 months. Then he took 8 hours from his Lt to stay at home with his vomiting 1 year old instead of giving him sickness in family. Of course this was the same Lt who stood up to him by refusing to deny CU to the select few PO's who the Capt hates. Please send him to midnights or even better to another district. We got two Lts who could run days in 018 just fine.......things were smooth while the Capt sat on the IOD.

Dont feel too sorry for the guy who was supposedly denied going home sick. He hits the medical constantly for numerous days. He carries a negative time-due balance, uses every excuse to go home early, even imaginary family member sicknesses, and it was predicted that very date before he came in that he would come in and ask to be excused sick because he was out of time. Of course, this was over the Holidays, when time due had already been over-extended to begin with. Always two sides to the story.
