Police Beat Fire

  • The cops beat the firemen 21-14 in the first Chicago Police vs. Chicago Fire Department football showdown Saturday.

But the game at Brother Rice High School on the Southwest Side was close. The "Blaze" -- the fire department's brand-new football team, led the game through halftime, thanks in part to the skills of quarterback John Welsh.

A huge crowd, Densey Cole watching from the sidelines, beautiful weather. What wasn't to enjoy?

blaze qb was good, but didn't live up to all his hype. made some great throws, but threw as many picks as touchdowns (should have been more picks, but a few drops by the d) just expected more from the hyped "former nfl " qb .
overall though, a great game played by all on the cpd, and if you missed it definitely worth watching on Comcast. Mon/Tues at 7pm on Comcast sports 100, or "on demand" as the game of the week! thanks for all who represented us well! made us proud!

word is that the police team would have scored more points if JFed was not in the game. every time he was handed the ball he began to run the wrong direction. LOL ROTF

You weren't watching the second half. The offensive line drove the field twice. This is club football, asshole. These guys play for the love of the game and they play well for the amount of practice time that is available to them. What the fuck is wrong with you? And the CFD team played a hell of a game as well. Jesse Estrada caught at least eight balls for about 150 yards for CFD, returned kicks and ran a few reverses. On Monday, he rides on CFD truck 56. He doesn't go into an NFL training camp. But he played a hell of a game and entertained thousands of people.

What say we take this game for what it was....a lot of people doing a lot of hard work to represent their departments in a damn good fashion. There were NO losers. The city of Chicago came out on a great day to see a lot of fine people play a GAME...which both sides did very very well. The tribute to Densey and the cute Blaze cheerleading tots at halftime and the lack of any drunken disturbances proved that. Let's save the Monday morning quarterbacking and snide comments for the politicians. Not a bunch of our guys who give up lots of presonal time in order to represent us. Enforcers you did us proud and Blaze....you can hold your heads up as well. WAY TO GO!!!!

This is why CFD had more fans then us cause we have assh*les like you on the Department get a life if your so good get out there with them then. I'm very proud of what I saw they grinded it out and fought hard. CFD only had a quarterback, one reciever, and 2 decent linebackers. True CFD is new but both teams pull from the same types of football talent; Catholic and Public league its always going to be pretty even I think.

Great game: somewhat marred by extremely late hit on q.b.- by C.P.D. L.B.- in first quarter.

Great game and great cause my brothers. Lets keep it clean and remember we all need to go to work in the morning.
