2,000,000?

It certainly felt like a crush of humanity.

And wasn't it hilarious when Shortshanks and Quinn got booed as loudly as they did? If Daley didn't know most of those attendees were suburbanites instead of Chicago voters, he wouldn't even run again. Quinn might be losing some sleep.

We continue to wonder at the Department's ability to react to a large incident though. This was a peaceful crowd. After a copper got hit during an ATV accident, the crowd continued to maintain its jovial nature and showed concern for the injured officer, but this could have turned out far differently if people had completely mobbed the buses and trampled a number of people. We hate to rain on anyone's parade, especially a Stanley Cup parade, but this seemed like we lucked out...again.

Plain and simple, if this was a hostile crowd, the savages take over and are in charge until the good guys get help from the suburban police!

As I watched the parade, I told my wife several times that it didn't look like there were enough coppers down there and that if the crowd got ugly, the police were screwed.

If this were the Bulls winning the championship instead of the Hawks, this would have a FAR LESS happy ending. This mayor is playing with the lives of this city's police officers and it has to STOP!

Car 49 (over your head georgas) definitely screwed this one up again...tail car got held up by the crowd and separated from the rest of the motorcade Car 49 stopped the motorcade and this allowed the crowd to surge onto the street...real bone-headed move on his part especially since the helicopter was telling him to keep moving that the tail car had no effect on the motorcade and was in no danger...true to form Car 49 had to have it his way this move alone caused the police to lose whatever control they had up to that point. Thank god this was not a different crowd there would have been alot of coppers hurt. Why he is in that position is anyone's guess but when things start to get massy he is definitely not the one that should be giving the orders.

I was watching when the officer got hurt. She was on foot behind the last bus when the crowd was chasing it and I believe was overtaken by the crowd. The officer on the PPV saw this and rammed his way through the crowd to get to her. GREAT JOB OFFICER!!! No doubt she would have been more seriously injured had you not responded like the real police should and do respond when one of their own is in danger. Hopefully IPRA wasn't watching. Then again, maybe they should watch it and learn something. Also, great job by the mounted unit and officers on the PPV's to recognize a potential disaster and form a line to keep the crowd from running after the busses and creating a scene worse than the E-2 nightclub. Too bad an officer had to get injured before that was addressed though.

Anti Daley sentiment isn't enough to get Daley out of office. Voting will. Only about 30% of registered voters voted last time. Daley got about 26% of that. If a viable candidate runs alone Daley will lose in a land side, but Daley has enough sell outs to split the vote. I bet he dies in office. Hopefully sooner then later.

Should it really matter if the motorcade is stopped? If you have been the police for a while you would know that all parades stop at some point during the event. Even Bud Biliken stops. That does not mean the crowd takes the stret over. The crowd should not have been in the street. Plain and simple. There was at most 125,000 people, most likely 75,00-100,000. This department has some idiot in an office pulling numbers out of his ass.

2 million people would fill every street and sidewalk wall to wall in the entire loop and Grant Park and probably extend to Roosevelt. There simply isn't enough room around Michigan and Wacker to fit 2 million people unless they were stacked ten deep.

Remember, the same people who came up with the 2 million people figure fought to give us a 2% raise.

Never forget that 2% raise.

Had ADS Georgas listened to the advise being given to him regarding the motorcade for the Hawks Parade/Rally by putting the Mounted Unit behind the busses to begin with, or using some common sense by deploying them after being told that the crowd had filled in the street behind the last bus, separating the tail cars from the last bus, noone would have been injured by the officer on the ATV. Georgas expected the porr officers on the ATV's to separate the crowds from the busses. Just how did he expect that to be accomplished? Did those officers have training in how to use ATV's to control crowds? Of course not, because that is not the way they should be used. Granted the officer probably panic'ed and hit the gas instead of the brake, but the ATV's should not have been put in that position in the first place.

Car 49 was saving the mounted unit for an escort N/B Michigan ave after exiting Washington. He wanted them in front of the players bus as they approached the staging area. (Photo shoot for the CPD) That is why they were not working the crowd with the motorcade from the very start as they should of. Instead the buses ended up being chased by the crowd. Car 49 abandoned the original plan and frantically repositioned the mounted unit to work the crowd. With not a moment left to spare.

I don't have the time to read all of the posts here, I am sure they are all well-written, poignent and well-meaning...my point is, I don't need to take the time to get all the way to the bottom of this thread to say that if you watch the citys' "municipal" tv channel, Ass-hole wasn't booed, rather he was applauded...likely by Jackie Heard, etc...what a f-ing joke this city has become...Daley is THE CAUSE of it! "propaganda t.v." - give me a break! can't wait to get the f out of here...it stinks like high heaven, think people! ps - he still mispronounced Coach "Q's"name on 'muni-tv', probably because his pukes don't know about a good sport like hockey...and his rambling, incoherant bull-shite was cut down to about a tenth of what he spewed at the rally, man is he stupid...

For the record, I am a mounted patrol officer and was out there. 49 is arrogant but if it wasnt for him the crowd would have made it all the way down Michigan. No one else out there wanted to make any decisions becuase they are afraid of being on this blog.
49 was not in charge of this event, Dugan was and on Washington there were a lot of bosses standing around or hiding in thier cars with thier thumps up thier ass. Gulliford was on Washington and so was Gross. Also, tons of sergeants. There are not a lot of bosses left on this job and I will go to war with 49 any day. He is not perfect but makes a decision and moves forward
