Economy Not Rebounding

Daley said it was getting worse - he might be onto something:
  • More Illinois families are receiving food stamps than ever before as a result of the deepest recession in decades.

More than 780,000 Illinois families got food stamps in June, up 11.9 percent from a year earlier, the Illinois Department of Human Services reported. Nationally, 40 million Americans -- 18.7 million households -- use food stamps.

In Illinois, the number of people applying for the program has increased even faster than those enrolled, and state and national officials expect demand to keep growing. Illinois applications were up by 27 percent in June, compared to a year ago.

And those 10 illegals headed up here from Arizona? Sanctuary City baby!

What does it take to get Freedom of Information Act data on the state's Medicaid expenses? How much was billed last year for the medical treatment of these violence
victims - gun shots, stabbings, aggravated batteries?

Willing to bet it is in the billions!

Nothing angers me more than when you are in the line at Jewel and some POS wearing expensive clothes whips out a LINK card to pay. They then take the food that YOU PAID FOR and put it in a fairly new (fill in luxury brand) and drive off.

I'm all for giving someone a hand when they need it, not an abuse of the system as is done here and in other cities and states.

I'm not a policeman, just an 'economics guy' by trade.

Take this for what you paid for it- just one random post on a random blog- but myself and the people I work with here in Chicago are of the opinion that the economy we're facing is going to be extremely difficult going forward and regardless of the 'green chutes' the media likes to report on, for the man on the street, it's going to be very ugly for quite some time. The standard of living for Joe Everyman may very well just have taken an irreversible step down.

Without getting long winded or overly complex, I'll just say this. Ignore EVERY SINGLE ECONOMIC INDICATOR, aside from unemployment. Given the circumstances we're in and the problems we have to sort out, that is the *only* one that matters.

To hell with the illegals, shitheads, democraps, and republicants!

Start stocking up on food, weapons, ammo and gold and silver.

An econmic crisis awaits greater than the current depression we're already in.

Walk away from that huge underwater mortgage, and downsize to a cheaper alternative. Use the extra money to prepare for the coming mega depression. Your credit will be trashed, but credit is only for those with no cash!

We cannot depend on the government...

This is all about the left’s redistribution of wealth program and it’s working like a charm. I can’t count how many times I’ve been in line at the grocery store and every person in front of me is using a LINK card. Then it’s on to the parking lot where they load up their 2010 Cadillac and I head to my 7 year old Chevy. Illinois has officially changed its nickname from “LAND OF LINCOLN” to “LAND OF LINK CARD”.

The only people who really spout off against teachers and other city employees like cops and firemen being fairly paid and fairly treated are upper middle class workers. They feel superior to those bleeding heart teachers who work with the unwashed poor and those cops who put their lives on the line every day, while they sit in gleaming towers and pretend to actually do something that matters. Of course, they are also the ones with their hands out for corporate welfare from the Feds when their deals go bad. Let's make sure the CTU and the FOP fight for fairness for the working man. We're the only ones who have a chance of reigning in the war on the young in this city that Daley has allowed to thrive. The cops on the ground should be with the teachers and cheer us on because while you guys can't strike to stick it to Daley's machine, we can. And I know you all hate Hubrisman as much as we do. And you got stuck with a bad boss, too.

Have you ever seen them go buy a box of cookies or a dozen eggs and pay with a LINK card and then ask for $100 or $200 cash back? Some LINK cards are cash back cards, like an ATM.

It's a wonderful country. No immigration laws to speak of, free food, free rent, free money. They even name the high schools after long dead Mexican Presidents.

What's not to like?

Economics guy, I couldn't agree with you more. I'm not an economics person, but I'm responsible for the financial well-being of my family. I balance the budget, do the shopping, do the investing, etc. And we're in a difficult time that isn't getting better. I don't see it getting better even as the spinmasters say it is doing so. I laugh when I listen to the business reports, to the "latest economic indicators," etc.

The above poster is very correct. I was in a Jewel in Park Ridge and I watched a woman pull a link card out of a Coach purse. Not wanting to be a hater (yes I do but let's pretend) I watched her get in her car which was a Saturn SUV that was about 3 years old. My car is 10 years old.

It would be nice to be able to see how long someone gets this. If it's for a few months while they get back on their feet, then ok.

There is no recession. Don't you listen to the Noon Business Report on WBBM radio? It's called "the global economic recovery that might be in danger of slowing down."

There.

The illegals have to go. Work for cash, pay no taxes, get free food and medical care while breeding huge families -- and envio dineros a Mexico, as every currency exchange, record store, and popsicle stand in town trumpets.

This is not "cheap labor" - it's the most expensive kind. They constitute a hemorrhage that has to be clamped off before we bleed to death.

Aside from the pure economics of it, they are replacing American culture with their own. I don't want to live in Mexico. If I did, I would go there.

I can't buy the imported English teas I like anymore. The store replaced them overnight with Jarritos Mexican soda pop.

I resent that.

Mop your own floor. Cut your own grass, or pay your neighbor's kid to do it. Hire someone you know to shingle your roof. Charity begins at home.

During the '07 campaign, he stopped at Little Village HS with an army of city service providers and practically begged the illegals to come and get some free shit. Watch him and film him this time.

Show that footage to the asshole yuppies who buy the bullshit. They won't be so liberal when they learn they are footing the bills for entire families of Latin Kings, Party People, La Raza, etc....

1:10AM...Bingo! Forget about the murders, we used to have 1000 slaughtered per year and nobody gave a fuck. The fake reverends just use today's homicides as a way to extort more out of Daley

The "numbers" that need publicity are the co$t$ to taxpayers for every piece of shit shot who survives. Them what used to bleed out in the wagon now cost us millions in rehab, SSI, drugs, shrinks, etc...

then factor the cost of illegal aliens to the Board of Ed and County Hospital....

then factor the billions stolen by outfit contractors....

and you know why we're broke.

Hey SCC,

The USA Today, Travel section, just labeled Chicago as the worst city for taxes against travelers coming here!

Here's another reason why this town will be avoided by people who don't have to come here!

LINK should have a direct LINK to the SOS to see what kind of car is registered to the person sitting there asking for a handout. Must have an IL DL or IL ID, this could all be cross-referenced. BTW, I have a 13 y/o car all paid for and pay for my own food that I BUDGET for my family.

LINK should have a direct LINK to the social security administration to see if the person sitting in front of them is a citizen.

There are probably other cross-LINKS they could be doing to weed out the handouts to those who shouldn't get the handout. But that would be too darn smart and economical to the dummycrats. The middle class taxpayer continues to be the loser here.

"Sanctuary City, baby!" --SCC

Yeah. So is Maywood, California.

Another self-proclaimed "sanctuary city" fails

"The L.A. County community, facing a $450,000 budget deficit, plans to lay off its employees, disband its Police Department and contract its operations to the Sheriff's Department and the neighboring city of Bell. The action is yet another blow for the predominantly Latino city of 45,000 residents densely packed into about 1.2 square miles in the heavily industrial southeast part of Los Angeles County. Officials estimate about half the city's residents are illegal immigrants."

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-0623-maywood-20100623,0,7006423.story

As goes California, so goes the nation...

...and Chicago is $650 million in the hole this year. How long before we disband our police department and "outsource" everything to some pay-as-you-go Wackenhut outfit? Call-taker's first question will not be "What is your emergency," but "What is your credit card number?"

Seems like the entire population of Mexico wants to come here and cut grass, collect scrap metal, change tires, and have children on someone else's dime. It's not sustainable in Maywood, Calif., and it's not sustainable here, either.

By the way -- on Channel 9 TV news, was that an upraised middle finger I saw emerging from the Loop crowd watching Obama's frightening armored column sweep past during his "whirlwind visit" today?

At the Aldi tonight -- hadn't even gotten INTO the store yet, and some Mexican kid comes up to me. "Do you want the quarter in your cart?"

My look was sufficient to cause him to go away rapidly.

You've got a house to live in, a car to get driven around in, a school to go to, medical care, a cell phone, expensive gym shoes, a fancy haircut loaded with gel, and enough food to make you obese -- and it's not enough. Now you want the 25 cents in the shopping cart I'm in the process of using.

Is there anything else we can do for you?

Ever heard the word "backlash?"

I think you're going to.

Remember this: Quinn is touting a "2% surcharge for Education"

What this really means is that the Illinois State Income tax rate is going UP from 3% to 5%, a 66.6% Increase!

But with Quinn calling it a 2% surcharge for Education, it somehow seems more palatable. This is how they will jam it up our ass, by calling it an "education surcharge."

Make no mistake, it is a 66.6% income tax hike. The Income tax rate in Illinois will go from 3% to 5%.

EVERY new tax will be touted for "education." Who could say no to that? Do you think they would say it is an increase for pensions or asphalt or to cover for past corruption? No way, it is for "Education"

Sure, the same way the Lottery was for "Education"

Then they removed an equal amount from the General Fund and claimed all was well because the Lottery money went to "Education"

Bullshit.

Don't believe it. Quinn is a bufoon. What was he doing while Blago was stealing? Looking the other way? Keeping his mouth shut? Not screaming from the rooftops that we had a thief in the governor's office, that's for sure!
