Something Like This?

  • THE COMBINED EFFORTS OF THE BALTIMORE CITY firefighter and police union locals have just unveiled the first part of a multi-media ad campaign designed to inform the citizens about city council’s treatment of the pension plans. One of the busiest intersections in the city is now in view of a billboard that claims that the mayor and city council have “turned their backs” on the firefighters and police officers.
Here's a shot of the billboard:

The next big battle is going to be over pension legislation. It's coming and it isn't going to be pretty. Unless the FOP (and CFD) define the battlefield, Shortshanks is going to do it for us, and as any decent general will tell you, you don't want to fight on the ground of your enemy's choosing. Daley on the defensive would be an excellent start.

If our FOP were truthful in a billboard advertisement, it'd read:

What say YOU, Mark Donahue? (unintended rhyme).

OT, but interesting. Fox's Mark Saxenmeir did a story on a CSA on the southside on King Drive. The victim was 18yoa, but has a mental capacity of a child. gang raped by several boys and men who all stood in line waiting for their turn. Several offender's left used condoms at the scene. One guy was taken into custody, but was released because he stated he was there waiting for his turn, but got tired of waiting. His mother goes on tv to defend this thug ass rapist. Mom say her son did not participate in anything. "The girl went into the basement on her own. Who knows what she wanted." When the son was asked if there was something wrong with the girl he stated yes, she is slow. He knew she was slow, yet he stood in the long line of rapist, but then stated that she wanted it. UFB!!! The mother is no better. Quick to defend his wrong doing. A good samaritian who was also in this basement during the assault lead the girl 2blks from scene and called police. Prosecution is not likely because of the victim's mental capacity and ability to ID all offenders in the dark basement.

8/03/2010 05:31:00 PM

If this were in any county other the crook county these animals would be prosecuted. Other real counties would see how serious this is and work hard to make sure justice is served and the message is sent. In crook county the ASA's fear the offenders. Now these animals have tasted the "crime pays" taste of chicago crook county and will go on to commit more crimes with out fear. SAD.

A two tiered pension is inevitable on a long enough time frame so we need to get something in return now. I say for starters drop the retirement to 25 years of service if over 55 years of age and the free healthcare. More money is always nice, this is going to happen so for us under the current contract we must fight for benefits in return.

If you add it up across the country he says we're talking about shortages of of hundreds of billions of dollars, may a trillion or more. No one really knows. He says when the taxpayers get socked with tax hikes to cover pensions it will be a taxpayer vs. public employee mentality as most people don't have pensions anymore.

I asked for a study or article. If he finds something online, I'll post it.

How do you know when to wipe your ass? Do you wait for a Current Updates to tell you?

Honest to christ, some people sit and do nothing but complain that FOP doesn't notify them to do this or that or the other.

Reminds me of the inhabitants of Cabrini who expect the 'guvment to do everything for them and then they complain when they learn they must participate in running their own lives.

God helps those who help themselves. I depend on myself. Then I have only myself to blame if something fucks up. Jesus, grow up.

Unfortunately your logic is flawed. First of all, such a bill would not only be bad for business, it would be bad for all taxpayers. Second, the Republicans cannot stop such a bill because they don't have the votes. Third, it is not the province of the Federal Government to satisfy obligations of a state or a private business for that matter. Compression wasn't even on the table this last time. I asked about it too. No way it will go to 10 years, the next compression will be to 20 years I guess, unless the city is too broke to give any raises, then they will use compression to get younger officers a bump.

Last time all the over 30 years guys complained like hell so they tossed them a raise that no one else will ever see. But we see top pay at 25 years instead of 30. Should be at 10 at a minimum.

Chicago is the ONLY large city police department that makes officers wait till 25 years of service to receive top pay grade.

That sucks. New York gets it after much less, I think 5, so do many others.

New York can leave after 20 years, any age. But New York City has a City Personal Income Tax. it goes from around 2.6% on the low end to 3.6% plus a $2,000 surcharge on over $60,000 income for head of household.

Add a 3% City of Chicago Personal Income Tax here and all sorts of things could be paid for. And computers would burn up with all the flaming that would go on.

"Unfortunately your logic is flawed. First of all, such a bill would not only be bad for business, it would be bad for all taxpayers."

So defined public pensions are bad.

You'd agree then from this moment forward to give all future CPD pensioners their contributions back and allow them to purchase credits to make them eligible for full social security benefits upon retirement.

Heck, why not save the taxpayers and business interests a poop load of $$$ and move all current CPD pensioners to social security. If a retiree doesn't have enough social security credits or the retiree's CPD pension benefit payout to date has exceeded their pension contributions, too bad. Go get a job.

Better still, don't refund anything to current and future CPD pensioners and don't give them social security unless they got the credits from working in the private sector. If you didn't work enough to qualify for social security and were relying on your CPD pension as a source of retirement income, you should have known better. Don't you attend all the FLOP and Pension Board meetings?

Naw, forget all that. This defined public pension stuff is bad for business and the taxpayers, it's just socialism run a muck. If you didn't save enough retirement $$$ on your own, shame on you. You should have been more responsible.

The bestest option is to give all present and future CPD pensioners zero retirement benefits. Most don't make it past a year or two in retirement anyways.
