Police Shooting
Police involved in a shooting last night. One offender wounded and in custody, one still at large:
Good job, Officer.
- A suspect was shot by police Monday night after he tried to rob a T-Mobile telephone store at Fullerton Avenue and Pulaski Road, police said.
About 8:40 p.m., Grand Central district officers responded to the store in the 4000 block of West Fullerton Avenue. Earlier Monday, an employee saw two suspicious males enter and leave the business, police said. While the employee was talking to an officer in the back of the store, one of them returned with a firearm an announced a robbery, police said.
The armed suspect moved to the rear of the business and confronted the officer. When the officer announced his office, the suspect pointed his gun at the officer, police said. Soon after the officer fired his weapon in the direction of the suspect and struck him in his hand, police said.
Good job, Officer.

First hand account. The Officers involved did an amazing job! Went above and beyond!
Good job Officer.

What happened to "Shoot for Center Mass" training?
Taken directly from the other blog:
Superintendent's Response
We intend to promote 30 Sergeants in August. Twenty-one will be by test score; nine will be by the merit selection process. JW
Its the little things that make all the difference in the world. As we all know When a paper published a story about an officer involved shooting, it always writes at the end that:
"The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating." Making it sound as if there was some wrong doing or suspicious circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Today however for the first time I read this, about that shooting:
"The Independent Police Review Authority – which investigates all police-involved shootings – is investigating, spokesman Curtis Tarver said". Humm I don't know what to make of it? Media coming around? Are we slowly becoming the good guys again? I don't know?
So for now Ill just say thanks and keep watching for more improvements.
Great work Office. Sometimes the training opportunity comes to you!
Why can't the CPD use zeroed-in laser aimers in addition to iron sights. You'd be amazed how many threats can be neutralized when an armed subject sees a red or green dot on his chest.
Unreal.
Nice shooting, officer!
The rumor mill is pump g that a swat guy interviewing for the FBI decided to tell them he has lied on case reports in the past like when he was on tact in 015, well he is stripped now and the FBI forwarded the info to iad..... U sir are a dumbass
O.T.
Anybody see the front page of the suntimes today. The article is about how they found mony to keep non varsity sports going at public schools and about how that is going to help these poor kids that need it. And one of the kids on the front page has one an ankle bracelet on. I thought it was kinda funny they couldn't find a better pic for the front page.
OFF TOPIC...
Seems the rumor that our FOP is in bed with the Daley administration is becoming more and more apparent.
President Donahue is attempting to muzzle Mike Shields by not allowing Mike's pension updates to be printed in OUR FOP newsletter. Seems Mike's take-no-prisoners approach to outlining and exposing the blatant mismanagement of our money and those involved is making several people very uncomfortable...President Mark Donahue being one of them.
While retiree monthly breakfast meetings, FOP picnic updates and items on sale at the FOP store are important to a lot of members, I believe our financial future trumps all of the above combined.
Mike has slowly been exposing the 800 pound "Pension Gorilla" in the room, and it obviously bothers some people that the truth and dirty behind-the-scenes goings on are coming to light.
EVERY member who hopes to draw a pension after giving this job a good portion of their life needs to make inquires as to why the FOP is so adamant about not wanting Mike Shields to keep the membership updated as to the status of our financial future.
President Donahue's actions are highly suspect; one would think that a person in his position would do everything in their power to ensure his membership was properly informed and continually updated as to this most important issue. And while I'm very much aware that there are "two sides to every story" (sometimes more), a timely and thorough explanation from Mark Donahue is warranted.
Mr. President: I just left a message with your secretary Mary Pat with my contact information regarding this issue. While I expect your office has been inundated with calls regarding this matter, I nonetheless await a call from you explaining your reasoning behind this attempted muzzling of an invaluable mouthpiece of the rank and file.
Glen Popiela #14124 - 011th District
damn right they dont care that we are the police anymore. actually wearing our uniform prolly makes us more of a target right now. who would've thought that the tac guys are safer than us now in cilivian dress. stay safe boys.
011 blueshirt/3rd watch
...gotta respect the T-Mobile employee...he brought a COP to a gunfight!
Great job by the officers involved. Be forewarned though all officers..... although it seems the "round table" might be a thing of the past, IPRA is still demanding a statement be made by the involved officer and any witnesses immediately. They are coercing these statements by having the Incident Commander order the officer to leave a statement. They are even recording this statement via audio tape!
Hello FOP, get on this one ASAP!
one would not think the pickin's at a cell phone store would be worth the effort.
Off topic: Daley is now tapping federal STIMULUS FUNDS to pay officers overtime to work weekends in an effort to stem weekend shooting violence. It's in the Scum-Times, reported by Fran. All the negative press about the summertime shoot-em-ups seems to be getting to Shortshanks. We can only guess how long he'll allow J-Fled to remain at the helm of this mess, not that it matters. Although J-Fled was the early on architect for what everyone now sees was a huge disaster that has moved the CPD backwards at least 8 to ten years, the blame now surely rests where it should; directly on the shoulders of Shortshanks and Masters (x3). Placing such an ill prepared and unskilled man at the helm of the CPD has been a disaster from the start. The fact that Masters too has zero credibility within the law enforcement community hasn't helped at all (that, and the fact that his training since accepting the job of "Chief of Staff" at the Chicago Police Academy can be described as minimal at best) has doomed us from the start. Where will Daley place this man when Weis is finally shoved off the plank?
I recently heard someone give Masters the nickname of "Huberman II." That seems to sum up his mastery of our Dept. pretty damn well. Maybe Crain's has a job for him should he be forced to walk the plank as well whenever new leadership arrives here. How will Masters describe his 'platform' of "moving this Dept. into the 21st century" when he finally bolts? How will Crain's view his departure? It will come, sooner than later, I think. Something will have to kickstart the CPD into once again being a proactive crime fighting machine; currently no one at the helm has been able to do this for quite some time. One thing for sure, overtime isn't the answer either. Cops assigned to the southside districts are simply WORN OUT.
SO WE HAVE A CLASS OF 30 SGTS,A CLASS OOF LTS STARTIN SOON.HOW ABOUT ANY WORD ON DICKS AND E.TS?
Have you gotten the email about Mike Shields being removed from the FOP newsletters.
Good for the Cop... maybe the gun totomg bastard should have had his hands together praying instead of robbing someone.. oops... wont work so good now I guess.
OT: Maybe someone should help Mike Shields start his own Blog or Police pension Web site. That way we can get the truth.
Second offender still at large, received GSW from the police. Armed and dangerous. IR# 1038916
"Be careful out there. They don't give a damn that we're the police." -- SCC
You are dealing with a devolving, reverted-below-the-animal organism that has -- due to cowardice, guilt, and lack of resolve on the part of responsible people -- completely lost its fear of man.
It is lethally dangerous because it is daily goaded and maddened by the our-personal-profit-at-the-general-cost element of a material society that keeps holding up shiny objects just beyond its reach.
Don't let the vague physical resemblance fool you. Just because it has a head and two arms and two legs doesn't mean it's anything like you. It does not think what you think -- if it thinks at all. It does not believe what you believe, or perceive its surroundings the way you do.
It is pre-literate, and the sounds that it makes indicates that it is tending towards the pre-verbal.
It operates in a parallel universe where the rules are "See it, want it, grab it. Don't want it, drop it right there." -- but it would not be able to tell you that, because it is completely devoid of that precious quality called "insight" that is the guiding light of advanced human consciousness.
While it exists physically on the same plane you do, that's it. You share nothing in common with it, and no communication is possible.
We are separated by a thick glass window, like at a currency exchange; nothing gets through the little chute except endless money, concern, care, and "benefits" one way, and s__t, carbon dioxide, noise, garbage, bullets, and obscenities coming back at you the other way.
Even force is of no use unless the force is overwhelming. Whack it in the side of the head, and it goes right on being what it is -- walking backwards as it shouts unintelligibly at some invisible "Otis!" up on the fifth floor.
I don't think that it could name a street light, or a fire hydrant, let alone tell you what it was for -- these are mere objects, to be either avoided or used to hide behind, as the situation dictates.
I fear that "the police" have been objectified in the same manner, and that the concept means nothing anymore.
Failed social experiment.
Re: Shields....I'm up for a campaign to FOP for him to keep him in the FOP newsletter...and if they won't they should go the way of the dinosaur. Shields seems to be about the only good thing on our pension board at the moment. We have the right to know...and the right to get the crooks OFF the board!!!
As an aside...I wanted to send an e-mail to our esteemed FOP president regarding Mike Shields not being allowed to contribute to the FOP newsletter and when I went looking for it I discovered it wasn't on the FOP website NOR in the newsletter. Don't know about you...but seems to me maybe he doesn't WANT us to be able to e-mail him.
However...I believe I figured it out as a couple of FOP officials DID have theirs visible. It SHOULD be: mdonahue@chicagofop.org
"One would not think the pickin's at a cell phone store would be worth the effort."

Yeah, the cell phone store is really a last-gasp, cockroach sort of tenant, desperately trying to fill up now-obsolete ca.-1920s small retail space, and not doing a very good job of it; here today, gone tomorrow.
Those "Cricket" places live about as long as -- well, a cricket. The whole stock would fit in one shopping cart; the rest is cardboard stand-up displays, anything to fill up the space that used to be occupied by shoes and hardware and candy and other tangible merchandise.
I'm even seeing currency exchanges failing. Not only that -- an increasing number of doctors' offices are going vacant, "For Lease." Not just a few, either -- a whole bunch of them on the Oak Park side of North Avenue, west of Narragansett.
This is past ominous.
Anyway, that's all some neighborhoods have left to rob -- cell phone places, nail parlors, chicken shacks, and barber shops. The liquor stores and currency exchanges were "hardened" many years ago.

And another thing dickhead, if the offender has his gun raised and pointing at the officer, wouldn't that put his hand in the general area of center mass?? Didn't think about it like that did you, ya fucking hack!!!
"Why can't the CPD use zeroed-in laser aimers in addition to iron sights. You'd be amazed how many threats can be neutralized when an armed subject sees a red or green dot on his chest."
-----------------------------------
NO! An offender who does not disarm is grounds for deadly force and nothing less. This type of attitude is created from thinking that tactics from entertainment media are applicable in real life. They are obviously not. When an offender refuses to disarm the apropriate action is as many rounds, high center chest, as needed to end the threat. When you encounter an armed offender the time for intimidation is over. If you think that a red dot will disuade them from using deadly force you are giving them time to use that deadly force against you. Your presence, as an identifiable police officer, visable to an armed offender is warning enough. If they have not disarmed in your presence (as any reasonable person would do) then you are justified in using deadly force. This is not TV. Please be smarter.

I ask the same fucking question. When Crimson Tracer sights came out where it is activated when you press the stockings, I found out it was against general order. I can't believe it. If I had that nice little red dot, then the bad guy would be hit in the center mass each and every time.
Why the department won't allow us to have this is beyond me. Anyone else know?

Ok Mr. or Ms. range instructor. There is a big difference between shooting in a nice booth where a paper target turns and you smoothly unholster your weapon, grip it, aim it and slowly squeeze the trigger.
Were you involved in the above incident? Do you know what the circumstances were? What were the extenuating circumstances?
Good job 025 robbery team.
OT: Ald. Ricardo Munoz: I'm an alcoholic
August 3, 2010 1:59 AM
A longtime Chicago alderman has taken the unusual step of outing himself as an alcoholic just six months before he stands for re-election.
Ald. Ricardo Munoz, who expects to face a challenge in the 22nd Ward, approached Hoy, the Tribune's Spanish-language paper, to discuss his battle with alcohol for a story published today
This guy just wants the sympathy votes. He is arrogant and feels he is entitled to that aldercreature position. I really think he began to binge drink when Carother's was found to be wearing a wirer for the FED's. He only mentioned the alcohol, what about all the illegal substances he may have consumed. Does the city make aldercreatures go for drug testing.
While he is outing himself he should tell the story about the guy that looks exactly like him,(possible twin) who has a serious fetish with the tranvestites on 26th st. Tell how this guy was caught by CPD in a car registered to the alderman just blocks away from a gay club on a dark side street with the transvestite's head buried in this guy's lap. The guy and his male friend were released to prevent possible backlash.
While he is outing:
- out all the gangbanger's you deal with and help to protect in the 22nd ward aka latin king's.
- out how you were a former LK gang banger.
- out your family member's that continue to make fake State ID's like mom and pop did. Now the cousin has taken over shop.
- out all the illegal street vendor in your ward that have a hands off policy PER the aldermen, because an un-named aldermen has a financial stake in the illegal carts.
- out the aldermen who has that financial stake in the illegal carts. Tell how they use all illegal immigrant's to work those carts and pay them $25.00-$30.00 a day. These carts hit the streets about 3:30 am and stay active til late evening 7 days a week.
- out all those illegal boarding houses in your ward were people rent space to sleep on the floor, closet or a room space where multiple families would sleep.
Being a alcoholic is a start, but it needs to go further. Besides you can relax IKE is in prisons and he's not talking. YOU HOPE!
So now the avant-garde coward J-Fled and his braintrust will implement his revolutionary prototypical concept of "predictive policing". This muthafucka is sooooooooooooo full of shit. Absolutely clueless.
Apparently he doesn't realize that before he was even born, the CPD used multicolored push tacks on huge beat maps of the city to identify "hot spots" and crime patterns by time and location.
How fuckin' profound, you sadistic, psychopathic douchebag.
Disappear, pussy! The rank and file despise you for the treacherous poseur that you truly are. You are a metastasizing cancer to the once proud CPD.
Mark Dnotknowdick at the FLOP is a coward and pussy!
Just one persons opinion.
cpd doesn't need any dicks
crime is down
cpd needs more beat officers
Very sick of hearing the lies coming from Mark D.

Rumor has it there is going to be a police test in the future. (anyone confirm)
to the officer that posted shoot him in the hand, whats wrong with center mass, you are a complete ASSHOLE, YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A FIREFIGHT, PROBABLY A 3 YEAR WONDER WHO ONLY DID GOOD AT APAPERTARGET, i HAVE 35 YS ON THIS JOB AND DON'T Dare call me old, I'm59 and could be your daddy, these cops did a good job, they are going home safe and sound, so FUCK YOU
OT. Is the news starting to come around lately. First Bob Sirrot speaks up for us. Then last night on Fox news the Vice President of Fox comes on and gives an editorial sticking up for the police. Maybe everybody is seeing shortshanks for what he is and the tide is turning in our favor. I won't hold my breath, but it is a move in the right direction for us after all the years of being slammed.
Yes its true about the SWAT guy, he was a 3 yr law school student who took a leave to work with the US attorneys office, seems in casual conversation he blurted out alot of info to these FED attorneys who reported it back, he is now stripped and will lose his CPD job along with his hopes of becoming an FBI agent, he also when being interviewed names other cops and incidents, many guys are quite nervous right now

WHY I'M DEPRESSED
Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel , "Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land ."
Nearly 75 years ago,(when Welfare was introduced) Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land."
Today, Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land !
I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc . . . I called a Suicide Hotline . I had to press 1 for English. I was connected to a call center in Pakistan . I told them I was suicidal.

Justifiably so, there are a few former PO's visiting the US Attorney's Office too.
There are more scandals coming, the sad part is that the CPD and its hierarchy could have avoided most of what is coming but politics and vengeance came first. Bye, bye Richie and your golden ones!
One of the worst scandals in the history of the CPD is yet to become public.

That's why I said Hey Man, Nice Shot.
What a good shot man.
For the 'hand shooting' commentor, what was the threat? A hand gun. Where was the threat? In the offender's hand. Where did the Officer shoot? The threat!
Tunnel vison takes over in a threatening situation. Auditory exclusion also plays a key factor. The Officer observed the immediate threat and his reflexes neutralized that threat. That is excellent shooting, reflexes, training and life saving skill set.
Kudos Officer! You kick all forms of ass. And to the tool who questions his target discrimination, stay in the office. You're not ready for the street. Leave the dangerous stuff to the pros.
While he is outing himself he should tell the story about the guy that looks exactly like him,(possible twin) who has a serious fetish with the tranvestites on 26th st. If this is true, the P.O.s that let him go are a waste of blue. Backlash? 'Out' one of these thieves for the twisted, corrupt scum that they are and you never have to buy a drink in this town again. Apparently you lack Blago's 'intestinal fortitude'. Any copper with a set would have 'dragged' them both in and called the media.
I saw the article and thought he was trying to get the sympathy story out early. Somebody must have told him he is toast, and very soon.

Show us some data on threats being neutralized. How about a link to a FBI statistics page that shows all of the offenders that looked down at their chest during a confrontation with police and said "Oh my a laser dot on my chest, I give up office!"

It just goes to prove the age old adage: "NEVER TRUST A FED"
"For the 'hand shooting' commentor, what was the threat? A hand gun. Where was the threat? In the offender's hand. Where did the Officer shoot? The threat!"
--8/04/2010 07:32:00 AM
No one is trained to "shoot for the gun." Everyone is trained to "shoot for center mass." However -- if someone is standing, facing you, and pointing a handgun at you, the hand with the gun is going to be out in front of their body, not off to the side somewhere. It's entirely possible that if you fire at center mass exactly as you are supposed to, you could strike the suspect in the gun hand.

I am paying attention, apparently you aren't. FOP and the other unions agreed to taped interviews when the officer is ACCUSED of wrong doing and is the subject of an investigation.
There is no reason for these assholes at IPRA to have to tape an interview following an officer involved shooting. It reeks of them accusing all of us of wrong doing from the beginning!
Another great job by a guy that has consistently done a great job. Stay safe brother.
