Fioretti Makes a Move
A Near South Side aldermen who's mulling a race for mayor demanded Wednesday that Mayor Daley hire 1,000 more police officers to solve a severe manpower shortage that has left Chicago Police officers outnumbered and residents feeling unsafe.
Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) acknowledged that the mass hiring would add $70 million to the city's record $654.7 million budget shortfall for 2011.
But, Fioretti said the city has no choice if it hopes to address a crime wave -- both real and perceived -- that is doing irreparable damage to Chicago's reputation as a safe place to live and work.
A two-year hiring slowdown has left the Chicago Police Department more than 2,230 officers-a-day short of authorized strength counting vacancies, medical leave and limited duty.
And another aldercreature has verified she won't be running. No better time than the present to start making waves in the political order.

All these aldercreatures who are not running are leaving with what kind of monies?
What is their PENSION & HEALTHCARE package? After how many terms are they eligible for this...I believe it is only TWO TERMS that they get 80% of their salary; and what is their healthcare package?
What is the budget for paying them when our retirees can not even get their medical insurance cards?
Everyone is talking about the political implications of their not running? WHO CARES?
Let's talk monies since every time the talk brings up over 2000 police officer short affecting the protection & safety of this city, the only focus is the city budget.
The city budget is lopsided, but the citizens of Chicago are not reflected in it nor the true servants which are police, fire, street & sans, and every service that provides for its citizens.
Elections are coming and some one with a true spirit of caring for this city is needed to run.
GOD BLESS CPD & ALL!
Maybe Fioretti can use this in his campaign commercials:

Before we go jumping on the bandwagon this guy was at the forefront of pushing to get the names of 662 officers on the naughty list released. So he's got some splaining to do.
First of all, the 2230 number is the budget vacancies (about 1000-1200) plus all those sworn on the medical and IOD plus limited and convalescent duty. That's why they say "available for duty."
Second, forget Fioretti, he hates the police. Go with Waguespack, a decent fellow and doesn't hate us.
Go Bob
Watch what happens in this race for mayor.
Fioretti runs. Waugspack runs. Weak black and hispanic candidates run. Votes get split harshly. Shortshanks wins again.
support the non stuttering prick.
I applaud Fioretti's coming out in support of hiring more police. It's about time the media allowed someone in city hall to announce this in the press. Then there's BigMouth "where we gonna get the money" Beale, who is worried if Shanks is gone he won't get all those WalMart Villages built on all his land deals on the southside.
What troubles me is that Fioretti & his Law Office is/was one of those 'were your civil rights violated' type practices. He used to have a bus stop bench advertisement at Western & Madison. Doesnt make him a bad choice for mayor but does make you think how he would address crime, as Shanks says, "without upsetting the Community".
he's not perfect. maybe even not very good, but he isn't daley. gotta love that.
Ride down Torrence Avenue from 106th Street to 125th Street and you will see why Alderman Pope (10) must go!
Then look at the fence between 129th and 130th on the east side of Torrence and you will another sign of his inability to do anything for his ward.
But the garbage is picked up at his restraunt and it alledgedly passes Health Department inspections.
Where's Rudy Guilianni??
I think Waguespack(i) would be a better choice. He is anti-Daley, pro police, and voted against skyway sale and parking meter sale.
Also, wants mobile food sellers to pay for permit and pay taxes.
Fioretti is at least stable!
He won't take any crap and won't micro manage the Police Dept like the Little One.
Whoever is the Superintendent under Fioretti will be the first Superintendent to actually run the Dept.
Thats the Fact Jack!!!
Someone correct me if I am wrong here but I have a question about this article. It says that it will cost the city 70 million to hire the extra cops. My question is if the city budgets for 13,500 and we are 2,300 short why would it cost more to bring us to an under budgeted numer of police?
How can any alderthief be trusted ? Untill I see otherwise, I'll consider him a daley plant to continue the daley reich !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
watch this guy not a friend of the police whatsoever. Not above using us to get headlines. Nobody likes us and we don't really like anyone except Doherty but he aint running. We will get stuck with Daley again The guy from 32nd ward may have some good qualities we should talk to him at length
This guy is nothing but a pretty-boy who dislikes Cops
O.T.
Tribune article
Joliet to try to save $1.8 million with worker buyouts.
Rumor (and just a rumor) I heard from someone in the Hall that the City was in the process of putting together some type of another "buyout" package (not the 55 health retirement option) in order to save millions as well.
Well, if that's true, I'm out of here and probably what ever is left of any descent bosses will surely be gone with this offer too.
Lets hope it's not just a rumor and boy if it's not, I feel for anyone left on this pathetic department.
we need to select outside of the socialist democratic obaminators at city hall. bullshitters trying to act like pro police conservatives.they re going to fix the mess they created...when pigs fly!
His explaining wanting officers names released and now saying we need more officers is....he's a politician who will work both sides of the street and alley if it suits his needs.
He's really putting his neck out there demanding more police officers be hired. Where was he the past few years as police strength dwindled? Oh, I forgot, it wasn't election time. Fuck him, maggot opportunist bastard.
Foretti is a Revrun ass kisser - will not be any differewnt.
Waguespack is a better choice. He had the cajones to vote against the Mayor when no one else did.
Forget Fioretti
Forget Tom Allen.......machine hack with numerous family members on the payola.

Elected official should not be eligible for pension benefits. Politician should not be a career.
We need to get back to what the American founders wanted. The politicians should be the citizens in various industries ( not just lawyers) providing a public service.
8,500 is the number J-Fed told the Mayor he can run this department on. After all he is an expert.
Whoever voted against the skyway and the parking meters has my vote. Now if they can only voice a negative opinion on the sanctuary city agenda they not only have my vote, I will volunteer for that person come election time.
This is how disgustingly pathetic this job has become. The members of the CPD are embracing anyone who is speaking up for more police NOW. For the past (at least) five years, we have been crucified in the press and none of these politicians, not a one that I recall, stood up to defend us. Our morale went down the drain and many coppers who never before had any problems with depression, began to experience it. I will not vote for anyone who sat still when we were being verbally destroyed. Now I wll sit still.
